Iron Fist Iron Fist General Discussion Thread - Part 4

I don't know that I'd go that far. But he is by far the weakest of the four leads thus far, both in terms of character and performance.

And this was, there. It honestly just bored me most of the time. It wasn't even bad enough that I could have fun riffing on it, which would at least be something.

On the positive side, Hogarth and Claire are always welcome and I did end up quite liking Colleen (Daughters of the Dragon show post-Defenders please Marvel).

I finished watching it Sunday night (or was it early Monday morning? :oldrazz:) either way, I actually really enjoyed it. I liked it better than I did Jessica Jones, I think I even liked it a tiny bit better than Luke Cage.

The Daredevil seasons though I think are still my favorite.

I've only seen the first episode so far, but is it just me, or did they model Joy and Ward on Ivanka and Donald Jr.? Seriously, they remind me so much of those two it's weird.

Anyway, I liked the premiere. Not amazing but not bad either (other than that stupid car leap thing).

They're more like Stephanie and Shane McMahon.

I don't know if they did. I've heard some say that the Meechums are basically the Trumps in the comics too.

But, there is way too many similarities. Joy/Ivanka probably a good person underneath but is still complicit in all of the ********, Ward/Donald Jr. with the hair, the constant snobby look, and with that anti-Liberal rant....even Harold has Trump-like characteristics. The constant lying and shifting of blame, and opportunism where he'll throw anyone under the bus to save his own skin.

No idea if it was on purpose on the show, or if it's just true to the comics. But, it was really eerie at times.

Yeah, Harold reminded me a little of Trump except that Trump could never fake his own death. Because the moment he pulled it off, he would tweet about being the best death faker ever in the history of the world.

There are some stuff that is too nuts, even for fiction. Meechum tweeting like a teenager probably would have been too much.

I've seen side-by-side pictures of Ward Meechum and Donald Jr. I can no longer separate the two. They are now one, in my mind.

Hahahaha they really do look alike. They have the same, permanent scowl.

You think so? By this Iron Fist?

Actually. . . sigh, yes. Because while the choreography was worse than for Daredevil, in terms of actual fight outcomes Danny consistently won fights easier and with fewer injuries. Mooks that Matt would need to beat on a half dozen times before they stayed down, Danny would give one solid punch or kick and they'd be out. He also took on higher quality of martial artists more often, compared to Matt.

Basically, DD got very good quality choreography of a man with relatively realistic limits. IF got mediocre choreography of a man who came from a wuxia movie.

Just watched the Double Toasted review.

You know, I can see a lot of virtue in *making* the final episode the second episode. Steal from the original comics, and have Harold Meachum the first "boss", albeit a boss he doesn't actually fight. Don't even need to kill him or anything, just use the big corporate confrontation as a way to show off how good Danny is. "Here's a evil rich dude with a small army of bodyguards and armed mooks and such. Watch as Danny Rand walks through them like a thresher through wheat."

You know, its funny, I'm seeing a lot of people not just from here but from lots of other comments sections on other sites and stuff saying they preferred this to Luke Cage. I had no idea the fans disliked that series so much.

I was very vocal about my dislike for Luke Cage when it was initially released and stand by it to this day. I definitely prefer this show, warts and all, to that.

For myself, I thought LC was a slog, and the villain issue is well worn territory by now. After IF though, in hindsight, Fist made me appreciate LC more and see all that they did right. Cage was a modern day Blaxploitation gloss and it did that well. IF should have been, for me anyway, THE Kung Fu super hero show aping all the classic tropes only, again, modernized. Cage has elements that brought to mind the classics from the genre it was inspired by right down to the show's music, intro, performances, interstitial, it all evokes that vibe those films had. Can anyone remember the sound of IF? It was a generic riff on the STRANGER THINGS music... Which makes no sense.

Same boat as the others. Kinda watched Cage because I felt I had to. The show was fine, but meh.

Much prefer Iron Fist and find Finn as Danny much more fun to watch than Colter's Luke.

Immortal Emerges From Cave is so different (in a good way) from the rest of the show it's not even funny. RZA knew exactly what he wanted out of this and pays homage to a bunch of classic martial arts tropes. And Danny wasn't a whiny ***** in this episode. He was the Iron Fist.

If this show gets a second season I'd like for the RZA to be heavily involved. He knows this genre like the back of his hand.

Interesting, I respect y'alls opinions. I do agree Colter at times felt very flat and some of the facial expressions he made especially when he was trying to act tough looked plain silly. But, I think his subdued performance for the most part worked and I think the show as a whole was carried by the rest of the cast especially Misty, Mariah, Cottonmouth and yes, I really enjoyed Diamondback's over the top overthetop-ness. lol Plus the show had a unique vibe and style to it, especially with the music that immersed me into the world. I didn't feel that with this show.

The Know did a video on how it seems audiences aren't really going with the critics on this one.

Luke Cage was disappointing as well. But from what I've seen so far Iron Fist is the worst of the bunch.

Far too much complaining. I haven't seen all the episodes yet but so far this series is light-years better than Jessica Jones.

Jessica Jones was a poorly written mess. This series is far more complex. Definitely not for the ADD generation, however. I guess the slower, smarter burn is what is generating most of the juvenile complaints.

Jessica Jones is still the worst thing to ever come out of the MCU.

Iron Fist is a damn good show. I agree with what Jon Schnepp said about Iron Fist that it's the opposite of Luke Cage. Cage started out strong and petered out looking to extend the story. Iron Fist built slowly but got better and better.

I like Iron Fist, but Jessica Jones is a lot better then it. If just for the Purple Man.

I feel like general audiences actually resonated with the show more than critics and hardcore fans. People already familiar with the character had higher expectations but people who don't know who Iron Fist is who are just being introduced to the character find it to actually be pretty interesting.

I think that there's room to grow. Scott Buck is being moved to Inhumans so if it gets renewed, then Iron Fist will clearly be a better show with a more passionate showrunner.

Yes, as I noted definite shades of Carpenters 'Big Trouble in Little China' score, which definately makes sense. If you got a Stranger Things vibe that would also make sense as they were riffing on Carpenter (and maybe a little Tangerine Dream) also.

I loved IF's synth score.
