Comics Is anyone else just not a big fan of ASM right now?

Im not into today's Spidey, because I'm not into today's Peter Parker. He reads and acts like an early 20s immature hipster, instead of the geeky, but responsible late 20s guy I grew up reading in the 90s. I don't know why Slott gets such praise; I think his characterization of Peter is terrible and he's turned him into a stranger.

Could you cite some specific examples? Because I don't see it all that much. Now is he as responsible as he was as a married guy in the 90's? No...but he's single now and single guys can be a little bit of a f*** up. In the 90's he also wasn't the breadwinner in the marriage and could focus on graduate school instead of juggling school, being Spidey and snapping pictures to pay bills.

When the issue of money was cut out of the equation he was able to focus a lot more, hence the more responsible guy you're talking about.

Personally, I'm pretty open on storytelling. I just want diversity to it. When everything is 6 issue stories I hate it. When everything is year-long arcs I hate it even more. When everything is done-in-one's I get bored.

Mix it all up so that sometimes it's nice simple reading and other times it's amazing impactful stories and that's how I like it. And if a plot is going to be more than 4 issues it better be freaking important and amazing because if it isn't I get more bored than the done-in-one's.

A good example of this was the early-mid 90's Amazing Spider-Man run. You had a two issue run with Doom, then a 3 issue run with Nova and the Tri-Sentinel, then a 6 issue event of Round Robin: The Sidekick's Revenge, then a 2 part Cardiac story, then a 3 issue introduction to Carnage with Venom, then a single issue with Shocker, a single issue with Lizard, and it went on and one with smaller stories but it all flowed and connected instead of being just solo stories. That layout's what got me into comics.

Exactly. That Michelinie era. Glad I'm not alone on this.

As for his age in the 90s...I could have sworn I read somewhere that he was right around 24 at that point.

Hah. He's the one who had the talent to get himself on ASM, I'm sure he has loads of good ideas without any help from us.

That said, Y'know how awesome it must be for him to be out, in maybe a Spider-Man tshirt or something, and then when the clerk at 7/11 or Wawa mentions what big fans they are, being able to say "yeah...I kinda write his comic."

Sooooo...I'm not enjoying ASM anymore...haven't been since Spider-Island ended. I don't know if I'm not feeling Dan Slott's writing anymore or not, but I do know one thing I'm tired of is how much time Spidey is spending with the Avengers & Friends. We get it...he's an Avenger now; bully for him. That's why we have Spider-Man in the Avengers books. That's why we have Avenging Spider-Man. I would actually like an issue of ASM where Spider-Man does NOT meet up, team-up, play poker with, drop by for a visit of, or call in any Avenger or F4 member. What was the last issue that was just Spider-Man? I wanna say that Vulture 2-parter, but I honestly didn't commit to that "arc".

Like I should be excited for this upcoming Sinister Six "Ends of the Earth" arc, but it feels like...Dan Slott has a style that I've grown a little tired of, and I just know this arc will be chock-full of his style. I can't put my finger on what it is, but I started off liking his direction, and now I'm ready for a new writer to take over.

I think Spidey will no longer be in the FF... though his relationships with Johnny is about to kick in high gear, and I think he's off the main Avengers' line-up, and with Bendis leaving the franchise, who knows what Marvel will do with the New Avengers... though I like this team far better than the main team...

He has more money now than he did then as of Big Time. And while I don't recall specific examples, not having the comics anymore, I felt the same while I was reading it. I think it might have been an overall feel of the character than specific examples. At least, that's my impression. You put today's Peter against Peter in the early-mid 90's and it's night and day and not in a good way.

I would agree. I collect New Avengers but not Avengers.FF suckered me in but hasn't had Spidey in any issues for a while. I think Torch and Spidey may wind up in their own comic.FF will kick that off. Ultimately, Spider-Man will become a standing member of every super hero team in the MU, including the mutant ones.
I also have concerns about Peter living such a Big Time, but I have confidence that this will be a set up to a Big Fall.You have to give Peter some type of ability to use his brains. When the Fantastic Four lost all of their money, Reed Richards used his brains to invent products that he could patent.Peter tried to sell his webbing formula years ago but there wasn't a market for dissolving glue. There is now. It is totally illogical for Peter Parker to be as smart as he is and have him not be able to make a decent living for himself.Any problems that he had in the past regarding web formulas, are now gone. Between Horizon, Reed Richards and Stark equipment at his disposal his webbing is supposed to be perfected.But at some point he's got to hit desperate and conflicting times or it's not the true Spider-Man Mythos.

My problem isn't him being on the Avengers, its that every comic I find with Spider-Man, the Avengers are there. It would be like if out of all of Batman's titles (all 40 of them), the Justice League was present in every one of them. ALWAYS. I'd like to read something with Spider-Man in it, where Red Hulk and Luke Cage didn't show up, too. Something where he doesn't swing by the Avengers Mansion.

I don't care what your politics are. Republican or Democrat, there's no way the Spidey I grew up with would knock out an unarmed civilian, let alone an elder statesman who once was a Presidential candidate. He can't web his mouth shut or better yet, just explain like an adult why he's wrong? He has to punch him in the face? What's he going to do on the next page, kick Hawking's wheelchair down some stairs? This drivel makes me gag.

See, not to worry. Ends of the Earth so far, really has Spidey stepping up his game and showing his true leadership skills and potential. I wonder for how much longer is Peter going to have a job at Horizon?Looks like JJJ is out to shut them down or at least get them out of NY.
