BvS Is anyone else not excited about Superman and Batman? I feel nothing but dread. - Part 1

I have to believe that Affleck will have at least some creative input. He's an Academy Award winning Screenwriter and Director, they'd be fools not to consult him at least a little.

The same could have been said about a good portion of the MOS cast.

What's more, Affleck was an award winning screenwriter long before alot of the bombs and blockbusters he made in the past(including DD). Just saying.

Batman like Bruce timm's batman would make me even happier about this film.

I'm sure it'll make fans of batman happier, but if he's portrayed in the DCU like how Timm portrayed his Batman, then Superman fans can kiss the thought and hope of seeing a version of Superman portrayed as batman's equal goodbye.

This Is a batman and superman film not a superman film guest starring batman.

You want people to forget about the nolan films?Do batman like Timm.

I still wish that it'd be officially clarified on what to view this film as since we don't know how they're going about this film in terms of whether this is a MOS 2 film with Batman or a WF's film.

Pretty clear from the get go that it will be a batman/superman film. A WF type of film.

I certainly don't want batman being just a supporting background character in a superman movie. No thanks.

The only reason why it's not clear is because we've been getting conflicting reports regarding what this film is being considered as.

And considering that we just had a Batman trilogy not too long ago, I don't need him to be a second protagonist in a film, especially when Superman has yet to have his own sequel yet. He doesn't need to be a supporting background character, but he could just be a major character like how Dent was in TDK while still allowing Superman to be the main character/protagonist of this film.

I'm oddly getting excited because of Ben Affleck coming on board. I think he's an inspired left field choice. He's a good enough actor but what really excites me is the possible contribution he can make to the direction and writing.

As Warner Bros' golden boy, he'd have a bigger say in the movie creatively. Snyder's visuals and Goyer's story ideas tempered by Affleck's influence? Color me intrigued.

My dread level just increased dramatically, Goyer and Synder writing and directing and Affleck playing Batman.................I feel like I am being punked.

I like the casting news.

Mainly because it was utterly unpredictable, I have no idea what it means for the direction they are taking with the character, and we can all speculate about his creative input in this and future DC films.

It's fun, it's given me something I can actually enjoy talking about on the forums again

Welcome back.

So true. At times Timm's Justice League cartoon could have been retitled "Batman and His Super-Powered Sidekicks!"

My excitement level for this film just lowered again. I like to see Superman and Batman as equals. They won't be. Here's the quote from Zach Snyder to prove it:

"Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter"

Apparently the Kents weren't enough to teach Clark how to be a hero. And forget the idea of him actually figuring out how to be a hero on his own. He's going to need Batman to teach him.

Lame. :down

Well to be fair, the Kents really didn't teach him how to be a hero in this canon.lol He had to learn that for himself from what we saw.

Plus, in the most optimistic of situations, having more experience in the field doesn't always equate to being the best in the field at times. How many stories have we seen where the cynical veteran is schooled and humbled by the newcomer/rookie?

Goes to show you that with all talk that fans do they really don't have an ounce of power/input into these films as the think they do.
You can kick and scream all you want but it will still happen.
Then when you give them what they want it's still not good enough because it has to be exactly what they wanted in every perfect detail which is impossible.

It sort of reaffirms the MOS franchise is dead. Hinted at after the disappointing results and the change of direction.

In a way this is a Hail Mary.

WB may be giving up on MOS but if this is how they expect to re-create the billion dollar Batman franchise I am not sure it can do it.

The BO potential for WF goes down further IMO - it was never going to come close to AV2 but its not out of the question it could be totally trounced by AV2 now.

I am deeply shocked and surprised that your reaction to the news is negative.

Lol I told you I'd find you.....well at least some of you...:D

Man, and here I thought I was the most negative one but Tobias may actually take my title.

It is amazing how fans just give up by just a casting announcement.
There are no pics, clips, more details about story/plot etc.
Have faith people.

I'm listening to a radio talk show and they are making all kinds of fun of Affleck. "A short bald Batman". This is a non-fan-boy program and the reaction is bad.

The host said its early and maybe WB will change its mind.

BTW, he referred to Affleck being cast for the new Batman movie coming out in July2015. Any doubt this is essentially going to be seen as a Batman film? It always was. Affleck does not change that dynamic. He just increases the risk it could flop.

Is there a thread you haven't yet posted that in?

This.....people can be so closeminded at times

I don't speak for anyone else, but I will say that my own personal fear regarding this film, mainly based from the casting is that they'll focus in more on Batman than they would on Superman due to Ben Affleck's star power.

Like some have said in the other thread, it's possible that Affleck may have been impressed with Snyder and Goyer's pitch to him regarding this film and one could only then assume that they must have pitched something regarding on how well Batman would be used since I honestly doubt that Affleck cares on what happens with Superman's character.

I mean honestly, I'm getting some sense of de ja vu here from the Wolverine and Cyclops days since Hugh was a bigger star than James at the time, along with Wolverine being a more popular character and look what happened there.

And those are legitimate concerns....nothing wrong with having concerns, I do to, as do many, but to deem it a flop or just saying your not gonna see it is quite foolish if you ask me hero
