BvS Is anyone else not excited about Superman and Batman? I feel nothing but dread. - Part 1

Indeed, I'm looking forward to this version of Batman. I can't help but think it's the version that I've been hoping for a long time now, a comics faithful version, more so than what we've gotten yet.

No i'm not trying to be edgy or go against the current here. But this movie already has two kisses of death by the names of Goyer and Snyder. You've got David Goyer who's just proven spectacularly that he can't write his way outta a paper bag, and Zack Snyder the guy who wrote Sucker Punch. I enjoyed Man of Steel, but i'll admit it did have some glaring problems in terms of it's story.

I'm sorry but these guys have not proven themselves worthy at all. If I were a studio exec, I wouldn't trust these guys with a project of this caliber.

I don't want to be a Debby Downer, but with everyone getting excited about seeing some DC heroes on screen for the first time, I think we need to also remember some potential problems for this film.

As the original poster mentioned, Snyder and Goyer are still at the helm of this film. Can they balance all of these characters and not pull a TASM2 - a film that looks like a 2+ hour presentation for their cinematic universe? A little bit of faith is restored with Terrio who is in charge of rewriting the film. Are they biting off more than they can chew? With Snyder's track record and execution of ensemble cast films, do you feel at ease knowing that he is the one juggling your favourite characters?

To me, I don't. Snyder's directorial highlight was Watchmen, but even then, I find the film incredibly unbalanced.

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the project. I really think this is an ambitious film, and I still need convincing that this series is heading in the right direction.

The script is being rewritten and Goyer is off doing other things.

I'd hardly place Goyer at the helm of this movie at this point.

I'd be less reproachful towards this film if Man of Steel wasn't so flawed. With Green Lantern's failure to kick off the DC cinematic universe, it seemed like Warner Bros. had culled together a great team to make Man of Steel the solid start they needed. Sure, I wasn't thrilled with those desaturated first glimpses, but the Terrence Malick look for superhero movies was intriguing. I went in positive and came out with mixed feelings. It wasn't terrible, nor did it put Superman back on the map. If anything, it's brought about more arguments over Superman's depiction and purpose than there were before its release, most of them scathingly negative.

The rumblings about this project haven't engendered much faith, either. Shoving Batman into the mix comes off as a desperate move, and subtitling it Dawn of Justice while they're teasing a clash between the titular leads sucks the tension out of it. "They fight, then they team up, and then they're allies." I'm not sure we need this before a direct sequel, especially when Superman's reboot got off to such a shaky start. It might be motivated by good story ideas, but right now, it comes off as a cynical cash grab.

Maybe it'll be great. I can hope as much, and that Batsuit already looks so good. This time around, though, I'll be waiting to see this in theaters before I get my hopes up.

I agree with much of this post. I think had Man of Steel been a less messy film, I would have higher hopes for the next movie. And who knows, maybe Terrio has created a much tighter script this time around?

Studios are driven by dollars after all. It's the same reason we don't have an Incredible Hulk sequel.

Batman/Superman team-up stories are a staple in the DC canon. I for one am glad that we are getting this before a full-blown Justice League film, and I'm especially thankful that I don't have to wait another six years for it.

Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice is certainly an ambitious project for Warner Bros so it will be interesting to see whether it becomes the massive success people are hoping for come 2016 but as ASM2 showed, it will be crucial for the movie to perform extremely well in international markets.

I think some people's concerns are unwarranted or fanboy over blown criticisms.... But even I won't pretend that it SEEMS a possibility now that they have to thread the needle just so. Of course that's with what little info we have as of now.

The only problems I had with Man of Steel were the dialogue, I dunno what it is about Goyer and dialogue but man it gets a little cringe-worthy. That's why most directors re-write most of the dialogue from a Goyer script. I like Zack Snyder, he made ONE stinker (Sucker Punch) but I don't hold that against him. Each director can have a few stinkers, they all can't be winners.
