BvS Is anyone else not excited about Superman and Batman? I feel nothing but dread. - Part 1

Excited:

Affleck - based upon Argo and The Town, I know he took this role because he felt he could do it JUSTICE *pun intended*

Cavill - returning after a good outing as Superman.

Gadot - her look is so intrinsic that buying into her as a goddess is pretty easy :o I have a good feeling about her in this role.

Also how about the Batsuit  Best live action one I've seen and that's only base on a teaser image. Incredible.

I am also excited because I've wanted a teamup movie for years in live action. When the past JL and Superman/Batman movies fell through it was pretty sad.

Chris Terrio polishing up Goyer and Snyder's ideas is a win. Characters with decent dialogue is necessary in pulling off a movie like this without being ridiculous.

The expansion of the universe in live action is exciting in general. Bring on justice, bring on The Justice League!

The "dick-measuring" line was terrible. It sounds like a desperate, forceful attempt to establish Lois as "Miss Independent" and for that reason, it's cringeworthy. Any heavy-handed dialogue like that is hard to execute.

One of the many complaints about MOS was how the kiss between Lois and Superman was not earned. Oddly enough, I found the kiss to be fully justifiable. Two individuals just went through hell and possibly could have died. But they survive. It's not really a kiss of romance to me, but more of a kiss that means, "****. I can't believe we survived that and I'm happy to be alive." A kiss like that doesn't have to be earned by developing a deep emotional relationship between the two characters in my book.

That line didn't fit in a Superman movie, and neither did the "F'n" one at the end. Oh well

The "dick-measuring" line I will agree was quite out of place for a Superman film, but the "Are you eff'ing stupid?!" is a very military way of speaking...especially for those in positions of authority (senior NCO's & senior Officers)

It count as a terribly stupid moment, it's one line I can easily on how terrible it is
"Hi, I'm this guy", "and I'm that guy"
"Men introducing themselves to a woman they meet for professional reasons = measuring d***s"

Well if we're splitting hairs, and I've been drawn in by the power of this thread now, the 'measuring' line sat better with me than the entire Genesis Chamber/Matrix thing/genetic engineering storyline...totally unnecessary.

Kal-El being Krypton's 'first natural birth in centuries' is not what makes him special; the fact he's an alien on our planet and the differences in suns, etc. are what make him special (i.e. Super).

I liked the Brave New World element of Krypton, even though it mainly felt like an excuse to open the film with a massive action set piece.

Disagree. Some people talk exactly like that. I do remember in the theater thinking that kids didn't need to hear those words, but then I thought of all the intense violence featured in every single CBM and decided the dick-measuring line was tame in comparison.

I agree that people do talk like that, but in a movie where the dialogue does not sound very naturalistic, it comes off as random and forced.

Agreed. It seemed like they were trying to hard to establish her as a strong, brassy no nonsense female reporter but it had all the subtlety of a chainsaw.
But hey on a positive note now that Goyers gone we hopefully won't have to worry about the dialogue being that awful

The great thing about Terrio is that he balanced the multiple characters in Argo wonderfully. They felt developed without having to delve too much into their backgrounds. That's the key to making a great ensemble film IMO, and that's why a film like Watchmen is unbalanced. The dense backstories serve as character development, sure, but within the context of a film, it hinders the pace of the narrative. You should be able to develop multiple characters without devoting so much time to their individual backstories.

It does add a more novel-esque quality to Watchmen though.

Have to say...so far, the only problem with this revived thread are not from the people sharing criticisms, but from posters making lame jokes and digs about the more critical posters.

Which is weird, because all they have to do is stay out of this particular thread.

Agreed.

Every thread has competing choruses of opinion; most threads are suffused with sniping and sniveling against Gal Gadot, so come positivity in this one is all fair and square.

^ No one's talking about positive posts vs negative.

I'm talking about the people who come in to take swipes at people for expressing criticism, and people who want the thread closed just because its a thread for expressing criticism.

I haven't seen Argo yet but I'd like to just to get a feel for how this film will be and see what Terio can do. I've heard nothing but good things about it, not sure why I haven't checked it out yet

Terio has one screenplay credit. He won an Oscar for it but still, that script was cheesy as hell and so was the movie.

Frankly nothing in this movie inspires confidence. Since the day Affleck has been announced, it has been disastrous all the way.

Like not one decision they have made has inspired confidence.

^ a bit pessimistic don't you think?

If I recall correctly, Lois offered her hand to Hardy as greeting and Hardy pointedly ignored it, thus Lois getting angry and not just saying the phrase in question, but also referencing that she knew Hardy would not allow her here if he could.
Just bringing in a little context.

hahahaha.

Isn't that pretty much the theme of this thread?
Yeah, but I don't recall anyone labeling Terrio's writing as cheesy, and then hating on this project even more because of it. He may have been sarcastic, I couldn't tell.

I have a few doubts, as I do about most movies coming out, but saying that it's been ''disastrous''. Nope.

That's just nonsense.

Terrio has one Produced movie. But he has a some screenplays that he has done before argo, that are loved in the business. One of his is develloped by David O'Russel and Jennifer Lawrence.
