BvS Is anyone else not excited about Superman and Batman? I feel nothing but dread. - Part 1

Blue had a tendency to ham it up. It worked for that version of Zod (most of the time, anyway), but I don't know how well he would have fit in with Snyder's vision of how the character was to be portrayed.

Well, sure. Blue was certainly more charismatic and entertaining and definitely came off as more intelligent, but that might not have been the case if he were cast in MOS. that's all I'm saying.

That said: warts and all, I find Blue's version of Zod to be superior to Shannon's.

Blue is my favorite Zod thus far. I think he knew the goofiness of it all, so he hammed it up a little. But, he was a great schemer and actually came off as someone you could buy as a leader. Very fun to watch.

I don't think anyone could help MOS Zod. He was just so annoying and odd when you think of him as the leader of Krypton's military. Too emotional and not enough smarts for me.

Seasons 9 and 10 of Smallville were so awful that I hardly remember any of the plot or the major scenes in spite of having watched it and once being an obsessive smallville fan. I don't remember how Clark defeated Zod, how he got his suit, how he beat Darkseid, anything about Oliver except that he lost all his money gambling, how Chloe was dispersed, etc.

There was that one episode that was supposed to be a zombie parody but turned out to be very good.

Yeah, I'm finding myself remembering less about the later seasons compared to the earlier ones. Season 9 was the Kryptonian clones stuff and 10 was just "We really have nothing to tell more than ever, so whatever and we won't show you want everyone expected to see in the final episode since the show started." Zod was the highlight of both seasons for me and he only appeared once in 10.

And it worked out well since Clark was able to think maybe he'd be a good guy given he didn't go through all the same things as the regular Zod. And I thought that RAO Corporation thing was hilarious.

Well, I think Shannon could've played him that way. But, I assume that wasn't what Goyer and Snyder were going for. So, he just did the job he was paid to do. Also, I had problems with throwing that sympathy card with him explaining his motivation right at the end before he dies.

I think it's because of the coldness Faora gave off. A little bit more calculating. Even though I thought her speech in Ihop made no sense, it was easy to see it as something that could mess with Clark's mind.

For me, it was just Zod's plan that didn't work for me. I mean, outright saying you'll hurt people and destroy Earth isn't as smart as saying something like "Help us create a new Krypton somewhere else" even if you're lying. The second way comes with less resistance and chance of failure.

While I agree with your post I can't help that I'm passionate about these characters. The idea of a movie like this has had me salivating for nearly as long as I've been alive. Unfortunately I'm not anywhere near as excited as I should be about this, I can't help but want to discuss ideas and theories surrounding the mere idea of this film. While there are plenty of people who will blindly hate no matter what the subject matter is I try my best to keep an open mind on it.

Would you put that more on Shannon's delivery, or the dialogue given to him? I'd imagine most would blame the dialogue, but you said if Shannon replaced Stamp, those lines wouldn't be as iconic.

Another way of putting it, if Stamp was Zod in MoS, do you think he would've made the lines more quotable?

I think the "I will find him" scene would've been much more badass.

Not comparable at all, Avengers had hype dating from 2008 and several films to build up to it, you somewhat acknowledge this which negates the point of you even stating Avengers. MOS isn't the "worst movie ever" but its a terrible movie none the less especially when you think about the potential of the movie and how it was squandered. You shouldn't be puzzled. BvS is second to Avatar 2 as the most anticipated film for 2016 and it out trends Avengers: Age of Ultron. Even though RottenTomatoes considers MoS rotten with a tomatometer score of 55%, it got an audience score of 76%.
