BvS Is anyone else not excited about Superman and Batman? I feel nothing but dread.

Pretty much. Heck, people don't even want Ratner anywhere near a comic book film after the mess that was X-Men 3, and I feel bad for Martin Campbell, the guy that directed the likes of Goldeneye, Mask of Zorro, and Casino Royale but I think Green Lantern really did him no favors.

Campbell definitely deserved a lot of the blame for Green Lantern. He just doesn't get the character. Nor did he every like him specifically. WB pretty much said "can you make a comic book movie" and he interpreted that like Schumacher did. Johns also gets a large portion of the blame because it was HIS job to make the movie work. Which is why he has nothing to do with these films anymore

But I will always defend Ratner for X3. He was a shotgun director that came in at the 11th hour. Singer and Vaughn were get most of my venom for that movie.

As far as Snyder goes, the guy basically just washed his hands of MOS2's quality with that quote so if it sucks he cane say "I did exactly what the studio wanted from the start."

They told Dini and Timm they were pulling the plug on The New Batman Adventures and wanted a new show that went "younger". Dini and Timm were initially disgusted by the idea, but it only took them 15 minutes of brainstorming in the parking lot to come up with the premise of Batman Beyond and get actually fired up about it. Heard that anecdote from Dini on the Fatman on Batman podcast.

All we can hope for at this point is that Snyder and Goyer's hearts are in this and they're embracing the idea of making the best possible Superman/Batman film.

I feel like Goyer will finally realize that's okay to make a "pure superhero movie." Not that MOS was exactly a betrayal of the source (in a FEW respects, it was)

But he doesn't have to distance himself from the genre.

As for Snyder, I want him to read as many well-written comics as he can and try to see what MADE those comics work, from the characterization to the plotting, etc.

Attempting to replicate the "comic feel" in an even bigger way will prevent MOS2 from being a paint-by-numbers movie.

As for WB. Get away from this movie! You're the reason Catwoman, Jonah Hex, and the Spirit were even greenlit.

Heh, that wasn't my intention at all. Just trying to say that sometimes a restriction or guideline can actually end up leading to inspiration. Though now that you mention it, I totally wish Dini and Timm were consulting on this film.

Forcing someone's hand only leads to inspiration when the person in question has innate talent. Snyder is at the top of my list of unoriginal directors and Goyer isn't far from the top of unoriginal screenwriters. That doesn't mean they are incapable of quality work, it means these are guys who work best when given rigid guidelines by talented overseers. Studio mandates do not fall into that group.

I think you meant writing. Though I think it would still be nepotistic on the side of Bats, it would at least be well-written and enjoyable.

It'd be a different story if the studio said they had to put Bugs Bunny in the movie. But Superman and Batman have a long history together and there's innate story potential there. It's just something that's happening sooner than expected.

I'm not saying they're up to the task, I have no idea if they are. This is a ton of pressure, and MoS hasn't exactly won my utmost confidence. But I suppose it's kind of useless to condemn this thing before it's even off the ground. I'm expecting the worst and hoping for the best at this point.

As far as I'm concerned, I'll worry if we get script leaks and the film sounds awful, or if we get some truely lame casting announcements . Other than that, I really can't start up with end of days chants. Thst haven't even announced new casting yet and the film is two years away. Yes, I saw the Snyder quote, yes I heard the Miller thing, and Yes I know all WB cares about is making money , yes I know the concerns and reservations certain fans have. Its still way too early for me to start feel any sort of dread .

TBH, I'm not overly concerned with their ability to crack a good story for this. Goyer is a good ideas man. With these comic book films in particular he's very good at finding all the most relevant source material to draw from and fusing it all in a coherent way. It's really more in the finer points of screenwriting and filmmaking where their weaknesses show. That's kind of why I was hoping Goyer would have a co-writer on this...that isn't Snyder.

Truth be told, I think it was just a matter of right timing and convenience being the reasons why the Donner Cut was able to come out since Warner Bros. had supposedly bought the rights to use Brando's footage when they were making SR at the time.

If Singer wasn't making SR, thus not using Brando's footage, then I doubt that we would have gotten the Donner Cut since it costed money to get that footage.

I will say this much; if Snyder, Goyer, and Warner Bros. really want to make a more stronger and positive statement with this film than they did with MOS, they have to pull out all of the stops. I'm not even sure if Snyder is aware of how mixed the reaction has been somewhat from hearing that we're getting a Batman/superman film instead of MOS 2, and I feel sorry for the dude in a way since this definitely feels like the Studio trying to impose their will on this film instead of letting him do his thing with it.
