Is anyone not excited about Spider-man in the MCU?

Me. Besides not being a big Spider-Man fan to begin with ... I think even with Marvel Studio's involved, it's been overkill with the character. What else is there to say or tell, honestly? The allure of combining major characters such as Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Cap has been done already. Is it really a big deal with yet another re-invented, re-casted, Spider-Man who has no rapport with the audience?

At least with Batman v Superman it's the two most iconic characters ever on the screen at the same time, and it's never been done with DC on film. And there is cinematic avenue there with those characters yet to be tread.

Marvel has already been doing this stuff for the past several years.

Superman, and Batman have had re-boots, different interpretations, and different actors to take on the role. But there was huge time gaps where it allowed the material to be fresh again, or seen in a different more contemporary light. Or flat out tell stories that had yet to be told with said characters.

Batman and Robin came out 1997
Batman Begins came out in 2005 ...

8 year gap.

Superman Returns came out in 2006
Man of Steel came out in 2013

7 year gap.

TDK Rises came out in 2012
Batman v Superman comes out in 2016

4 year gap.

Spider-Man 3 came out in 2007
Amazing Spider-Man came out in 2012

5 year gap ... but it literally was a remake of a movie that just came out ten years prior. And wasn't all that much different apart from actors, and slightly more contemporary tone.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes out 2x years later. And when is the MCU Spider-Man making his debut? Possibly in a cameo THIS YEAR w/ Age of Ultron? Damn. It's overkill.

From 2002 - 2014 that's 5x Spider-Man films. Possible 6x with a cameo. The material is cashed out. Let it breathe for awhile.

Only people who currently read comics have any idea who Miles is. Peter Parker has 50 years of history, numerous cartoons and films. They would be mad to base Spiderman on Miles Morales. It would piss off a lot of people.

I actually think the general audience wouldn't give two craps at this point if they went with Miles Morales. As stated, we've already gotten five movies with Peter Parker, two reboots and now we're onto a third. They NEED to do something different at this point. Miles would be awesome but Sony nor Marvel have the balls to lead with him.

No Spider-man isn't a character you can do that with. Ant-man sure, nobody except the hard core Ant-man/Avengers fans care that it's Scott Lang and not Hank Pym.

But Spider-man is by far Marvel's most well known property. No one knows who the hell Miles Morales is.

What people don't want to see is another re-hashed origin story. They want Spider-man in new material, and they're going to get that.

If it's a pure, comic to screen adaptation with no origin re-re-hash, or excessive love story focus ala all previous films ... and we just see pure Spider-Man involved with the other characters akin to Snyder's Batman role in BvS? Then I'm down. But still, give it a few movies before there is a cameo please.

BP was going to come out early November of 17 now we have to wait until July of the next year; that's several months everything is getting pushed back to fit in Spider-man

I don't know how old you are but 8 months is not a long time.

If you aren't excited for this (and are a fan of the character) I gotta hear why.

It's confirmed it will be Peter, which it should be. It's confirmed he will appear not this year but next year in Civil War. Which still has plenty of prep time and a creative team that has proved themselves. That movie is going to be epic, and it kick starts the most ambitious Marvel Studios phase yet.

And we have a clean slate regarding who will be writing, directing, and starring in the next solo movie. We haven't seen all there is to see even if there has been 5 movies. Honestly, I don't think we've seen the Spider-Man property adapted as well as it potentially could be once.

I'm not excited, I'm tired of Spider-Man movies. When Marvel & DC announced their movie slates and that movie chart popped up the Spider-Man movie was the one I was least interested in after Deadpool and Gambit.

8 months is preeetty long. Its almost as long as Batman v Superman's delay and boy are we feeling that one.

Am I excited about the solo movies? Not really.

The spin offs? No way.

The MCU appearances? Very much so.

Parker is one of the most important characters in comic history and Superhero film history though. It's like switching out Bruce Wayne. People will definitely care. Miles on the other hand has not even been around for 5 years.

He needs to be in addition to Parker, and built up properly imo. Can't just introduce a completely separate character as thee Spider-Man of the MCU. Much like Cap and Falcon that torch needs to be passed and developed through story if it's to work. Audiences will have a difficult time accepting a jarring transition with such a popular character like Spider-Man.

Parker still hasn't met Black Cat and numerous other villains as well. So many more stories to do here. If Miles is to be added, there needs to be a very proper build and passing of the torch to do it right. We need a reason why Parker is not Spidey. If that's not shown peolpe will very well be confused and pissed. Or if he just didn't exist then that's just bad planning.

I think the best scenario like other Spidermen and women is that he works alongside Spider-Man. Not replaces. There needs to be a bond and relationship established.

I'm onboard with him coming back for the most part despite my meh feelings on the majority of Marvel's films and my disappointment in losing Garfield. However, I don't like that characters who haven't gotten one film before are being pushed back for a sixth Spider-man movies. Especially Captain Marvel personally as I prefer her to Spidey.

Well, Miles origin is tied to Peter Parker in a few ways, if you haven't read his first appearances. But I agree, the only way that character even needs to be introduced, is if Peter dies. And that only worked because it was in the Ultimate line. I don't even think the MCU should kill off Steve Rogers which some people are convinced will happen.

I don't understand why we can't have an older Peter Parker. In the comics Peter hadn't been in High School since ASM #28 and I think a lot of fans would argue Spider-Man comics were at their best when he was in his young adult/ college years. We literally JUST had an iteration with him in High School, I really am not interested in seeing an even younger actor in the same kind of setting. I wish they would do it like the Flash tv show where Peter is fresh out of college and working a job, has a stable relationship etc. Sigh...

The whole point now is the character is much younger than the Avengers. Even given the older Parker in the main continuity of the comic books, he's younger than the rest of them. Ultimately his age doesn't matter, his struggles are the same. And we had Peter in college in 4 out of the 5 movies...

Umm...we got a glimpse of Peter in college in SM 2(2004) and that was it. SM 3 they didnt show him in school at all. He was in High School in the rest of the movies.

how was Peter in high school in Spider-Man 3 if he was in college in Spider-Man 2??

He ended up not even being dead right? Didn't he just retire? I stopped reading after a bit. Not a fan of Ultimate tbh.

I do like Morales in addition to Parker . Just not completetly replacing right of the bat in the MCU, that seems odd and pretty much disrespecting Parker. He is their main guy here, and they just went through making these deals to get him. Going through all this for Morales would seem ridiculous. After about 5 more movies maybe they will be ready for that story wise, with proper set up.

Cindy Moon is tied to Parkers origins as well, Spider world is def a crowded place with many options.

We did see Peter in class in Spider-Man 3, and it's mentioned in Spider-Man 1 after the high school graduation scene. Amazing Spider-Man 2 he graduates in the first ten minutes and later mentioned his classes to Aunt May. Point being, it doesn't really matter.

The movies have always chosen bits and pieces from the Ultimate and original series of comics. In the Ultimate series they drive home the point that a kid is in the center of all the mayhem involved in being a super hero. It will set Spider-Man apart from the other heroes in the MCU.

I think you're right but I haven't read those issues yet, (the latest series after Cataclysm). Spider-Man was always the highlight of the Ultimate universe the rest has kind of been meandering for a long time.

In comic books these characters are OK because the deaths of the original are never permanent. I don't think that will fly on film. It's already pretty lame Coulson was a fake out. (Haven't seen Agents of SHIELD so I actually don't know what really happened yet.)

Yeah, definitely not this soon and prior to Infinity War. I'm assuming this deal was made almost specifically to plan for Parker being in these big crossovers.

Civil War, plus Infinity War... plus potential sequels, with a fresh start. I am going to celebrate this day, every year.

On the other hand this is better news for the black panther movie when you really think about it.

Here are some comments from another forum.

Baba3231 says-
I think this is a blessing in disguise for the Black Panther film;
fact is it would have suffered at the box office due the the Justice League film coming so soon after. Also, with this now being the 3rd different version of the character within a short space of time, one has to suspect we'll be seeing Miles Morales this time instead of Peter Parker.
Songbird/Diamondback says-
There is actually a silver lining. If Black Panther stayed at it's
original date, it would have gone up against Justice League a week
after it's premiere and get crushed. This instead gives Black Panther a chance to succeed.
So you could say that spiderman just help save the black panther movie from the justice league movie and if black panther does well enough it could clearly still get a part 2.

After learning the spefics of the deal, I'm more worried now. Feige has no creative control over the spin-offs, Sony is in charge of the casting decisions. the last time Sony cast Spider-Man we ended up with that Garfield guy with the weird Jedward hairstyle. You don't let the people cast Spidey who last time cast someone like Garfield. You just don't

At the end of the day I'll just continue to skip Sony's crap the way I do Fox's and look forward to seeing Spidey cameo's in the MCU.

I wonder if Marvel can use Norman Osborn in a Dark Avengers film....

That would be cool.

I think this is a better deal for Spider-Man than the rest of the MCU. I liked Marvel's original plans.

Ugh please no Dark Avengers. Osborn hijacking everything in the MU was one of the most annoying storylines in history. I'm already not enthused by more Spider-Man but that'd be pushing it.

The only one that got me was Thor. I feel that one they're giving up on a little early. Thor TDW while not a bad film, was disappointing in that it was the huge upgrade in quality we saw with CA:TWS. Between Hemsworth and Hiddleston, I feel Thor could potentially be a 800M WW if not a billion dollar franchise.

TDW was definitely a bad film. Honestly I think people are missing that maybe all the talk about Thor 3 being a huge flagship and The Winter Soldier of Phase 3 was just Feige trying to hype up people who were on the fence after the last movie. He's not gonna come out and say "Here's a sequel to that last movie nobody really liked."

Why is it that everytime I've clicked on something about Spider-man in the last two days, I eventually come across the name Miles Morales. Miles Morales is not ****ing Spider-man. If that kid shows up on film, after we've waited so long for this, I'm done with Marvel forever. Forever.

(Not to sound overly harsh and bigoted, which I'm not, just putting that out there in case Kevin Feige's secretary or PR people or somebody reads stuff here. *rant off*)
