Is Hollywood done with memorable lines?

I can't tell if that is sarcasm or not, the rum line comes to mind most for me when its Jack Sparrow. Everything else I can see if you are a huge Pirates fan but other than that not really. For me almost anything in the 2nd or 3rd movies I can barely remember.

Stallone had some great lines in Rocky Balboa, Rambo, and The Expendables. There's simply too many to post.

Two favorites from Drive:

'I drive.'

(the following is more subtle but is repeated throughout the entire film)

'You understand?'

How can we forget this:

"I'm in Lesbian with you." - Scott Pilgrim

I'd like to dispute the 'My precious' line as it comes directly from the book.

'Are you not entertained?' - Gladiator

“What we do in life echoes in eternity.” - Maximus

I'm going to pull a Twilight here. Hey, it IS memorable (for the wrong reasons.)

Bella: I know what you are. You're impossibly fast. And strong. Your skin is pale white and, ice cold.
Edward Cullen: Say it, say it out loud.
Isabella Swan: Vampire...

The Force is with you young Skywalker, but you are not a Jedi yet!
We're going to need a bigger boat!
We came we saw we kicked it ass!
Nice ****ing model! *honk* *honk*
I'm a Dapper Dan man!
Never go against a Sicilian when death on the line, ha ha ha...ha ha...
My name is is Inigo Montoya you killed my father prepare to die.
I"ll have what she's having.
When this baby goes 88 mph, you're going to see some serious ****.

"A-BINGO!" - Inglourious Basterds

"Get off my lawn!" - Gran Torino

"What's the most you ever lost on a coin toss?" - No Country for Old Men

"Oh my God! You think it's a Schwin?!" Burn After Reading

True, but I think the movies really made that line even more famous than what it was.

Don't know about that given LOTR is the most read book on the planet outside of the bible. I think a lot of people were aware of it before hand, I think more than anything the voice of Gollum is what's more memorable.

No, I'm with PowerCosmic. The movies made the line even more popular than it was before.

True but thats just because there was just more people who watched the movies than read the books. Since almost all who read/loved the books watched the movies also.

I guess what I'm saying it's the general public who haven't read the books, or rather the ignorant ones out there, knows that 'My precious" is from the Lord of the Rings movies due to it's influence within the public lexicon. You could not escape that particular line, even if you're from the boonies, thanks to countless impersonations and parodies.

No, I'm with PowerCosmic. The movies made the line even more popular than it was before.

I'm still disputing its validity given it's was already a well known phrase from the book, maybe not the the extent the movies made it, but still very much a well known line of dialog. Like I said we are talking about the most read book outside the bible, LOTR was it's own beast decades before the movies.

I understand that but I'm talking about the ones who would read the books; ignorant folks. not trying to be derogatory but I'm just trying to prove a point.

I mean people did overuse the line "my precious" from just seeing the movie. Its similar to how many people just say "arrow to the knee" cause it just got spread around.

"When you rise again, if you rise, rise a knight."

That line still gives me chills.

I also love this one:

"Marriage is an important part of getting ahead: lets people know you're not a homo; married guy seems more stable; people see the ring, they think at least somebody can stand the son of a *****; ladies see the ring, they know immediately you must have some cash or your c*** must work."

Mainly because it's so true. :o

A few others people are missing for me:

"This is my gift, my curse, who am I? I'm Spiderman."

"You know all those dangerous mutants people talk about on the news, i'm the worst one!"

"NO!" Ceasar

"I dont carry a gun, I dont sit in and wait while you scope it out, I drive."

"You know I dont speak Spanish!"

"Ya wanna know how I got these scars?" "Why so serious" and Gordons monologue.

"THIS IS SPARTA!"

"Fookin Prawns!"

There are plenty more that I cant think of right now, and there are too many to list from LOTR, but given time they will be as fondly remember as the ones from earlier decades.

Obvious ones:

'Why is all the Rum gone?'
'This is Sparta'/ 'Tonight we dine in Hell'
'Expelliamus'
'You shall not pass!'
'Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming'
'No, not the buttons! Not my gumdrop buttons!'
'You see sanity is a lot like gravity; all it takes is a little push'
'My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.'
'WILSON!'
'Spiderpig, Spiderpig, does whatever a Spiderpig does'

Some of my personal favourites:

- 'The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.'
- 'Two manky hookers and a racist dwarf. I think I'm heading home.'
- 'How 'bout this. You shut your mouth. Or I'll kick your teeth down your throat and I'll shut it for you'
- 'I prefer the stillness here. I am tired of Earth. These people. I am tired of being caught in the tangle of their lives.'
- 'None of you seem to understand. I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with *ME*!'
- 'All the ****es and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll whisper "no."'
- 'Why are you wearing that stupid human suit?'

^Wow yeah totally forgot about Watchmen, practically every Rorschah, Manhatten and Comedian line was amazing and delivered perfectly.

"What happened to the American Dream? It came TRUE, you're lookin at it."

"You if we'd have lost here in Vietnam, I think it would have driven us crazy, you know as a country....."

Plenty more in the movie as well.

"My Precious"
"One does not simply walk into Mordor"
"You shall not pass"
