Is it time to end The Simpsons?

  • Yes, They should stop making it now, its no longer funny.

  • No, I still very much enjoy The Simpsons and think it should carry on as long as it's funny.

The deadline for the cast to accept Fox's proposal is 12:01pm today, so we'll know if this series is over or not by noon.

I thought it was now a question of when it would be over, not if it would.

FOX is money hungry and doesnt know how to share the wealth. To bad the cast cant really do anything to get back at them.

I hope the last episode is written soley by John Swartzwelder!

This is how a lot of TV shows end.

Even the Simpsons made fun of this in an epsiode. Homer states: "We'll be on for years...or until the show is no longer profitable." I guess Fox has hit the financial threshold when it comes to cost per episode vs profit made on advertising. Happened to Dallas, Three's Company, Diff'rent Strokes, and a dozen other shows which were top network brands then declined.

The show was renewed for the next two years. So they have time to put together a quality finale. Greoning could probably propose a new series to take its place on the schedule.

In its heyday back in the 90's The Simpsons was pulling 20 million viewers. Nowadays it barely pulls 6 million viewers on a good week. A final season would be a financial windfall for Fox. They'd probably pull at least 40 million viewers for the finale alone.

Well the cast would be willing to cut majority of their pay if they got a tiny portion of the other profits the show gets like syndication.

But as long as they allow them to have a real final episode I will be ok with the show ending.

Soooooo, doe's this mean that the Simpsons won't end after season 24?

I like what Shearer said, cut as much as you want if that means they get a share of the profits. Why not? Once the show actually ends the stars wont get anymore money but Fox will. So why not cut them in. BOO! to Fox for not cutting them in on the profits. Some of them aren't doing much else. Glad that the Simpsons is still going on

The best writers should all return for the last season, Conan O'Brien should return and write!

Fox isn't being money hungry here. The fact is that producing the show under the current financial model just wasn't economically viable. They aren't going to make a TV show that loses money even if they make billions off of licensing and syndication deals. Fox is a business first and foremost.

It's also kinda hard to have sympathy for the cast when even after a pay cut will still make over $2 million per year for 22 weeks of work and the demands that they were making completely negated the point of a pay cut.

Hurray, but now seriously, i hope they decide an ending and make it in season 25 or 30, then they can think better of the episodes and what to do with them since they don't have to spare ideas for the other seasons

I thought The Huffington post said the show will end after S24 even if the cast takes a pay cut?

I agree. I mean, just how many other TV sitcom stars, voice-over or otherwise, have a steady job for over 2 decades like the cast of The Simpsons do? And because it is voice-over, the actors never had to worry about whether they'd grown old, ugly, or anything that plagued other TV stars. The Simpsons is no longer the phenomenon it once was, and although I never really like Fox, I can understand their reasoning behind their demands for pay cuts.

Because recent reports suggest that they'll make more money with the syndication rights...a rumored $750 million.

So yeah, it's over.
25 seasons worth of syndication versus 23 or 24 means more money. So it's not over until there's a confirmation. With the accepted pay cuts it's not over yet.

That's just their theory and nothing that's been officially declared. It's conjecture.

Fox has renewed the Simpsons for two more seasons. Season 25 will happen.

YES!!! The show can end on it's own terms.

I'm confused now. Does the show end after the 25 th season or do they plan to continue it until they can't squeeze more money out of the voice actors.

The contract is through season 25, so unless we hear otherwise, that's the last season.

Share the wealth? Are the cast and crew of this show not wealthy? Didn't they all get hefty pay increases some time ago and aren't they like some of the highest paid actors on TV?

I'm just saying. This is a tough economy right now. God forbid even high paying actors make some sacrifices.
