Is it time to end The Simpsons?

Is it time to end The Simpsons?

  • Yes, They should stop making it now, its no longer funny.

  • No, I still very much enjoy The Simpsons and think it should carry on as long as it's funny.

  • I have another opinion and will state in the thread.

  • I have no opinion on this matter.

  • I am the only person on earth who is wondering whats 'The Simpsons'

The whole notion of its a tough economy these actors shouldn't be so greedy never made much sense to me. These people have the right to negotiate what they think they're owed. Its not like what they're not gonna get paid the studio is gonna donate to charity or something.

The Simpsons is like Old Yeller. Its time to put this dog to sleep.

It ain't going to sleep until atleast spring 2014.

But since they accepted the pay cuts they clearly felt continuing to work regularly and longer for less is good enough for what they are owed. I mean it goes both ways.

I mean the show has been on for over twenty years. So it's not like they haven't been paid. Should the show be kept on just so they can be paid the same amount?

I think Simpsons has basically ran its course and lost its quality a long time ago. I personally just can't get worked up about the back and forth of all this negotiating because we know all the actors and main staff members probably got large raises over the years. So we know these people make good money, but I can't suddenly feel bad if they are going to get paid less like they are being punished or something when they are probably set for life.

It's like actors on a hit sitcom. Their pay probably starts small, but as the show continues and builds and audience they will all get raises and probably get all the extra residuals and extra checks worked in later. But eventually all things have to end. Why is it so horrible for the actors to take a paycut if they really want to keep the show going that badly? They'll still get paid and they will still be working. If that's what matters most than it is and it looks like they've accepted it and they shouldn't complain.

The problem is that they were being greedy. Fox was being greedy too so it's not like I have any sympathy for them either.

I thought of a great way to do the final season. Have one episode for every year the shows been on and then have the characters get one year older in each episode while keeping it the same year. This way in the final episode you get to see where the simpsons would have ended up if the characters had aged normally over the course of the show.

There's always the old stand by of if you don't like it, don't watch it. The Simpsons has two more seasons after the current one is done to go and that will be plenty of time for the producers, writers and cast to figure out how they want that last season and the series finale to cap a quarter century of history.

Its weird, eventhough I dont really watch the Simpsons anymore, I kinda don't want it to end. I know that makes absolutely no sense but I guess but something in me just feels comfort in knowing that if i ever decided to go back to it, it would still be there. Plus, we all know that inevitable final episode is going to be epic and sad and heartbreaking. I am not looking forward to that day.

That's the way I see it.

2015 would be more accurate. As I said earlier, all the animated shows on FOX are behind schedule. The Simpsons are still airing season 22 episodes. Let's put it this way, the latest press release says that the show has been expanded to 559 episodes. Well... the 500th episode hasn't even aired yet. We got a LONG way to go.

Oh yes, I'm sure that's what he means....

It probably means movies. Now for those who hate The Simpsons they'll have something new to gripe about and for those who like it something to keep the series going.

I remember them saying that there would be a 2nd movie, but that it would probably made only after the series ended. If they ever want to make a great finale for season 25 or 30 then it should be a 2 or 3 part episode in the quality of the movie's story, yeah, the movie felt like an extended episode, but it felt as a Good extended episode, so i expect the same quality for the last episodes and for the next movie

I'm disappointed with this outcome. Sure, the actors get another reliable extension on their contract, but the show hasn't been funny since the past decade and a half. Groening, Brooks, and the other writers have to step it up if they're going to finish the series off at 25 seasons.

Who has the gun pointed at your head making you watch every Sunday night again?

It should have ended long ago. Now the episodes are as bad as, say, Family Guy or so.

they will never be as bad as family guy because in least the characters are still likeable

I hope it lasts a few more years.

I remember watching the shorts on the Tracey Ullman Show (1987'ish).

I still get a kick out of the Simpsons, and Animation Domination just would not be the same on Sunday nights (Still wish Futurama was on Sunday nights as well).

As long as I get entertained from the Simpsons then it can stay as far as I am concerned. If other people do not like the Simpsons that is their right to.

I enjoy all the animated shows on Sunday night (guess I am a big kid, thankfully I have a woman who enjoys watching them as well.)

No one. I hardly watch the show anymore, save for the "Treehouse of Horror" and Christmas episodes. (I did laugh at the Twilight parody with Daniel Radcliffe and Hugh Laurie, so they're not entirely off.)

I think Family Guy is funnier due to the shock value where as The Simpsons just isn't funny at all. What makes it worse is during these episodes you're forced to think back when the show had classic comedy every week.

Family Guy I cannot see making it 20 years let alone 25 years. I like it just enough to keep watching but unlike The Simpsons, I just don't find it as funny or entertaining as it used to be and when it was fresh it was as good as The Simpsons was. While The Simpsons does have bad episodes there are not as many as Family Guy does in a season by season comparison (at this point I'd almost say Family Guy has done more bad episodes than 23 years of The Simpsons combined). However it's maintained it's quality over the long haul better than Family Guy has so it wins the run. Which I hate because Family Guy was great before it's second (third?) cancellation.
