Is this a sequel or a re-boot? I must say i love Ray Steverson, but something feels off about this movie. It's not even being promoted like the likes of IM. I know it isn't being produced by Marvel studios, but rather Lionsgate, but i'm sure Marvel has some say so.

Is yet another Marvel character gonna bomb, yet again, due to poor marketing, after ,yet again, another failed RE-BOOT attempt just like they did with The Incredible Hulk? :csad:

TIH was a good movie but the ****ty marketing plan is what killed it; moreso than the previous Ang Lee movie. This film might suffer from the same 'curse' if you will. If it's a sequel make it clear. If it's a re-boot, then make that clear; but just don't throw it out there and let the audience decide as was done with The Incredoble Hulk, imo. The previous Punisher movie wasn't actually praised by most, so they need to give ppl good reasons as to why we should see this one.

It's a reboot. Marvel has some say so, probably as much as they had on the '04 movie.

Marketing wise, this movie isn't out until December, so they got time to get all their **** together.

As Grundy said, theres a lot of time before it comes out, and it's lower budget, so don't expect huge things until much later this year.

What more did you want out of TIH? It made 132 million, hardly a bomb. Look at Hellboy 2. There you have a box office disaster. Hulk didn't too badly. And Punisher 2004 wasn't a big movie by any means, so the mainstream audience probably won't even remember it. Hulk didn't have that luxury.

Well as much as i loved TIH and hated 2003 Hulk, i'm pretty depressed about the B.O. The director himself said there probably won't be a TIH sequel because the movie has yet to make back it's budget, domestically, which is really bad. All ppl are talking about is Hulk now showing up in Avengers; such an iconic character reduced to the point where his only chance of big screen success is to now have to share the big screen with other Marvel bodies is embarrassing. Spiderman and Hulk are two of Marvels icons.

Anyhow, i just hope they've learnt not to take the marketing aspect of successfully promoting their characters, lightly like they did with TIH.

The thing is, that's really hard to do with the budget that Punisher War Zone has, and the budget Punisher 2004 had. The Incredible Hulk had, what, a 150 million budget? Punisher WZ is somewhere around 30 million, I believe. Wikipedia says that Punisher 2004 was at 15,500,000. Not a lot there for marketing compared to the big green machine.

And to add what you wear saying, Punisher 2004 was only shot in like 60 days or something small like that. I know this Punisher movie didn't have a very long shooting peirod either.

I feel like Marvel really had no choice. They waited to show Hulk footage to make sure that it was up to snuff (unlike in '03) and even then, people complained about the f/x. I'm sure it will do well on DVD, but the fact of the matter is, Hulk had his big shot in '03, thats when everyone was ready to embrace the film, and things just didn't work out. I loved TIH & admired the chances Ang Lee took in '03, so all around, I'm pretty happy I got at least two Hulk movies.

That being said, the Punisher, like alluded to earlier, has a much smaller budget & the last film didn't really register at all, so plenty of people may check this out who have no idea about the character or his previous films

Well the hulk had a ****ty marketing for sure, but it was an awesome movie that did really well. besides this wont b out til december and marketing for it seems to be getting underway pretty well. but when you think about it, punisher istn a heo you can slap on kids bookbags or lunchbox so marketing like they did for dark knight and iron man wont happen

because there is some light-heartedness in the dark knight and iron man. but have any of you guys seen the red band trailer for the new punisher film? it looks alot better than the other trailer they came out with a few weeks ago. but i do have to say that the make up looks terrible, you can tell it doesnt have a big budget by jigsaws make up.

It's pretty obvious this is a reboot. I may think that the trailer does little as far as tell a story, but it blatantly shows Frank losing his family in the comic book fashion. Since the last film doesn't have that, this isn't a sequel.

Your right, they are doing another orgin story, now well it be in all flashbacks like the 90's Punisher or start from the begining.

The about TIH was that from the very begining the studio had said this is a reboot, and then when the film was coming out they changed there minds and said it was a semi sequal. Though I believe this Punisher movie is a straight reboot.

Well obviously when Jane quit(and judging by how the execs want to handle this movie), they were forced into a situation where they could go the Batman route or just fully reboot the series. Frankly the movie closed out itself pretty niecly. It ends with the punished deciding to do this job. He killed the saints and co. He said goodbye the the supporting cast. While they could make this a sequel, really with a different actor its forced to be a new movie.

I think Hulk suffered from what Hellboy is suffering from. It got released in an uber saturated market. Iron man got to be in a light market. Hulk got dropped between massive releases. They really should have waited to probably august to get the end of the market.

I disagree, the competition wasn't Hulk's problem the first movie was and I think that the movie was fun and likable but not anything special in anyway. Sometimes you can get away with just being fun and likable and sometimes you can't, especially when 80% of your audience hated the last film in your series.

As for the Punisher, unless you have it staring Nic Cage and produced by Jerry-B it probably aint ever going to be a huge hit, no matter when it's released or how good it is.

He's a 70mil total character at best.

My guess is, going by the music video, it'll be in a flashback when he goes to families grave. It shows him breaking at it, so it would make sense he was remembering what happened to them.

August has Tropic Thunder and The Mummy. Hulk wouldn't have had trouble there?

EDIT: Caught the post that was being responded to. Disregard.

I was under the assumption that Marvel has no say on anything whatsoever with the Punisher.

That this is Lionsgates show, and only they're show. Marvel on the backburner in this case.

The film will do decently, its coming out in December, thats alot of time to get things on track!

i think this punisher will be awsome.
as far as marketing hulk i think universal pushed hulk aside to get wanted out threre, then push it aside to get hellboy out and now you dont really see hellboy ads cause its all about mummy mia(take that myril streep)! oh i mean mamma mia and mummy 3.
so i think it caught up universals cluttered up bunched up scheduel with other flicks. if you ask me i think they should spread the movies further apart to let them all build.

Wait...how can they "get things on track"?

If the film is good, then it's good. Right?

I mean, filming ended, didn't it? Once that's done, how can they fix anything apart from the juxtiposition of the scenes?

After editing you can do things to change the plot by just showing scenes in different parts of the movie. Also, sometimes they film alternate endings so they can decide what cut to use in the editing process. Those usually all end up on DVD so then you get to decide what cut you like best.

If you ask me Hulk and Hellboy were just released at the wrong time. Both were great movies but both had to go up against Iron Man and TDK and even Wanted. The only movie in December that I can think of is The Spirit which opens on the 25th while War Zone comes out on the 5th.
