Is Marvel Studios Dropping the Ball?

There is no excuse about WB. I mean in term of comics/movies they have like over 25 years of experience. Marvel about half of it. + WB is by far richer than Marvel. So yes there is a mather of competion.

That they want or not there is a competition between the2 major companies. Not only the fans but now its the media who recently said that Batman beat spider-man at the box office on the front page.

You re right! Marvel didn't always do good movies and I never said Marvel is better than WB. But they deliver the merchandise. Even if its wrong but they tried at least. WB is starting to deliver but the wrong characters. If I ask for a Big mac don't come up with a McFish. Even if it's from McDonald cause that's not what I order.

Id rather they deliver good merchandise than subpar merchandise

I dont think Marvel are dropping the ball, they made an announcement, put together a schedule and as far as we are concerned nothing has changed. I don't know what people are expecting to happen in a month or two. DC are hopifully going to get into the game with the success TDK has brought them.

I don't see that they're dropping the ball; they've announced their slate of films, which are on the main 2-3 years away, so one shouldn't expect a huge amount of announcements this early.

They've got nothing in 2009, it's true, but that's the fault of the strike.

As for the idea that momentum has somehow passed to DC, no, not in the least; The Dark Knight was deservedly a huge success, Watchmen looks promising, but they've got jack in the pipe after that; the next Bat-film can be expected in 2011 (and we've heard absolutely nothing about it, even less than about something like Captain America which everyone seems to expect an announcement on), but Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, et al. are up in the air. Regardless, momentum isn't a zero-sum game, and comparing DC/WB only with Marvel Studios isn't a proper comparison since Marvel does business with other studios as well.

Agreed. People assume WB has the momentum cause TDK is going to be the most successful comic movie ever (at least domestically). They don't look at the big picture.

That said, while Watchmen looks promising, we have no idea the audience the movie will gather. The movie looks good, but is not a typical comic movie and will have a R-rating. Thus, its BO is up in the air to me at the moment.

After that, like you said, DC has nothing. MoS, GL, Flash, WW, and JL are in development hell, and have been for years. Sure, WB has (or did they have) that conference, but that doesn't mean DC will have anything else out by 2011. BB3 is their best shot at a 2011 release at this point, and even there I see it as 2012 due to 2011 looking crowded.

Marvel Studios may not have anything in 2009, but FOX has Wolverine. Not counting properties not under Marvel Studios, the studio may have as many as 4 more projects out by 2011, not including what Marvel will attempt past that (they are not even thinking that far ahead right now). Point is, Marvel will have 1 or 2 films out in 2010 and 2011. DC may have nothing til 2012.

Marvel I still feel has a leg up right now. Now, I don't side with either company (I just want good movies), but from an objective standpoint, Marvel is still winning in my book.
