Superman Returns Is singer messing with us?

Wow, just got done reading through this thread from where I left off from this morning. Aside from a couple really bitter, hateful, egotistical, ignorant, self centered jerks that post here, a lot of people really like what they see.

But Im really shocked after reading some comments here that no one was either warned or banned for the comments directed toward the writer. Maybe it would further fuel their now obvious paranoia, but damn, I have never thought I would have seen that level of disrespect here. Really shows peoples true colors to know that they can respond in such a professional eloquent manner when their bias puts them in the corner.

BTW- if these script reviews are being denied by one of the films writers, and people are saying "we'll have to wait till the movies released to find out", well, what about the novelization?

I hate the fact that they are criticizing Mike's work, his collaboration with Dan Harris on X-Men 2 was a very cool read for me.

Also has anybody seen Imaginary Heroes written and directed by Dan? I enjoyed it.

It's not simple critism, man. They are flat out insulting the guy.

Criticism is saying something like "I thought what you wrote wasn't really telling of the character as I've seen him before"

Insulting is "You f***ing suck"!

What they are doing is more along the lines of the latter.

I was trying to be politically correct, but I agree with you, it's piss poor. Threads are being closed left and right, which is a good thing, but taking aim at somebody like that for no reason is ridiculous and seems to be going unnoticed. You never know though, the Mods are sneaky.

I just don't understand why people take it so personally. You'd think that Singer, Ottman, Dougherty and Harris took turns violating someone's mother or something.

People are freaking out when to date, Singer has made nothing but intelligent films with great cinematography. He's had a clear vision for Superman for years, stop worrying so much people  Whether it will be the Superman film YOU imagine (generally speaking) is up for question since everyone has their own interpretation in their head based on what they've seen (comics, tv, movies, etc...) One thing is for sure, as a MOVIE it will be good no matter what. Expect an interesting balance of humor, dialogue, and Singer's patented pacing.

i really i agree with singer throwing us curve balls to teach us a lesson...

Not the first time... Look at this way, some misdirection can only relieve people and make them enjoy the film more. Stuff that they would have been bi**hing about earlier will no longer be an issue as the MAJOR stuff they were worried about will be done well.

I was going to start a thread politely asking why they were deleted but I'm afraid the mods will see it as an act of rebellion or some kind of attack and try and ban me.
Has anyone ever thought about PMing me or another mod and asking questions? Or is better to spread posts like this all over the site in the vague hope that one of us may happen upon it?

I think its a conspiracy. They even closed my "Safe haven for those who demand less" thread on misc comics films section because they don't want people demanding less I guess.
Yeah...that musta been it.

I don't care. S:TM and X2 are both pretty lame in my opinion, kept afloat only by their casts...S:TM is carried soley on the shoulders of Reeve.

Correction...Superman The Movie is carried only by nostalgia. The movie has aged absolutely horrendously and can barely be watched today. Reeve's performance is your typical 70s performance (which by the way...isn't that great). In fact, were Reeve alive today without a handicap, there wouldn't be all this fuss how Reeve is the best Superman. There, I said it.

I'm definitely thinking that theres a twist to the plot a la the death of Jean Grey. I seem to recall certain movie merchandise like the comic book adaptation having an alternate ending...
and the SR comic adaptation comes out the week after the movie, (as opposed to the Wednesday prior-- June 28)
Just gotta have faith... Singer wouldn't screw up Superman. He loves it as much as we do....

...ok well, close to as much as we do. ;)

The Usual Suspects isn't intelligent. It is a movie people watch then brag about watching because it makes them feel intelligent. The twist at the end entirely negates the rest of the movie and is a twist simply for the sake of a twist. Its good, but it is terribly overrated. Apt Pupil just sucked.

The problem is, the death of Jean was changed in the novel and a few promo pictures...not hard. INTENTIONALLY stirring up bad buzz 2 months to release is simply going to hurt profits. WB would never allow it. This entire "smoke and mirror" stuff was bull**** when fanboys tried to convince themself Tom Welling was Superman...and it is bull**** now when fanboys are trying to convince themselves Singer didn't blow it.

I'm saying collectively his films are more intelligent than not. I never singled out TUS

Thats like saying someone in the special olympics is the best athlete ever. There simply isn't that much competition. You have Tom "a soap opera would reject me" Welling. Dean "Baywatch" Cain. And Mr.1940s serials George Reeve. Not exactly the pick of the litter.

If Cain were paralyzed and not Reeve, and died young, everyone would be saying how Routh has to live up to Cain.

He has what, 4 films? X-Men ("What happens to a toad when its struck by lightning"...so intelligent), Apt Pupil (****), X-Men 2 (a comic book movie, good, but hardly "intelligent"), and that leaves...The Usual Suspects.

what did reeve do that could be improved? seriously.

What can't be improved? It wasn't a bad performance, but it certainly isn't the Oscar calibre performance people make it out to be. It wasn't flawless, it wasn't that great. It was your typical, 70s performance.

A typical 70's performance? Considering that the 70's was the time that method acting really came to the forefront and is often considered the most realistic type, then I think that's a good thing.

So you are saying that one line of dialogue makes X-men a stupid movie?

Uhhh...

Matt... Come on... Reeve played Superman perfectly. I agree that his Clark was a bit over the top, but it doesn't come off as 70's cheese

And you're saying it is some brilliant intelligent movie? "What are you gonna do?" "The traditional thing, look". "Hey everyone! I'm Ray Park Jr. I do a stupid dance!" "Hes Magneto, I'm Professor X, thats Cyclops...we made up names to make our secret club cool...but don't really explain that cuz if anyone talks about it they are teh gayz"

No, not really. He was somewhere between average and good. He isn't the second coming that people make him out to be, and were he not dead most people would concede that.
