Not so much a fad but the staying power of this console is not great.

Been a Nintendo fan since day one. The ones I hear about how Wii is for kids and that 360 and PS3 are awesome are just that...kids. I have never heard a grown ass man say those words. I notice the more mature a person wants their gaming, the less mature they actually are. You can only play so many reluctant hero/supersoldier FPS/3rd persona games before that **** starts to run together. The newest fad is starting to be ambiguous anti-hero with demonic powers. Oh Lawd.

I never would bash a console by saying those things either.

It's just that the N64 fell before the PS2 and I see history repeating itself.

Congrats, Terry. You hit the nail on the head

I see what you mean. I generally avoid Nintendo not because of the actual 'child like' gameplay, more for the actual impetous or drive behind the game. "Rescue Peach!" - Over and over. Has the brilliant Mario REALLY changed that much since the SNES?

Your post is a good one and I'm torn. I hate the general SciFi FPS smorgasbord that is the current videogame envrionment. Yes, Nintendndo offers a complete breath of fresh air from this, and has a nice innocence, but I always feel emotionally untouched, underwhelmed. I'm never excited really. I'm having fun, but not really involved.

The other consoles (despite the recognised over saturation of similar tat) utilise a real narrative almost all the time, combined with adrenaline inducing gameplay.

Take for example. I played the boxing minigame on my mates Wii. I got knackered, got excersize and had fun. But never did I have the drive that I have on my PS3 version of Fight Night. I never had the desire to punch someones face in, just flail my arms around.

I'm stuggling to get my point across, I know.

BTW, I'd say I'm outwardly immature but inwardly quite mature and level headed (like everyone really is around here I guess). I'm no chimp pretending to be all hard and mature because I can kill people real good.

I'm no ***** with a gun.

I'll level with you. I'm 29, but I look forward to the newest Mario game moreso than I would a Halo or anything. Because there are too many other games out there blatantly cloning what Halo and others did before it. Everytime a new one comes out, its production team is all, "this will be a great new way to take out your enemies, we've developed this new system where your guy will be able to raise a pinky finger, call upon the armies of the undead, destroy an entire armada, and scratch his ass all in one fell swoop. It's really going to be great!"

Yeah.

Yeah.

Well now we have allstarted to talk about the level of complexity in games then. I think the Wii and 360 and PS3 have games with high levels of complexity and depth. I still stand by my assumtion that the Wii or 360 will be the first to die out.

I swear to god I have wasted more than 5 seconds reading your sig. I fall for it everytime.

There is only on person on here like me who put nothing of value in his sig it simply said "no sig zone"...

Very cool

But I like the fact that mine wastes people times.

One of my master plans

Well first off, the GameCube was the system that fell before the PS2. Second, really? You see the Wii falling before the PS3? You've been able to find Playstations in store since January, Wii's are still scarce. Sony completely abandoned the strategy that put them on top of the video game world this generation. Sony won the console wars because it came out first, had a lower price and had a whole bunch of big time exclusive games. This gen, X-Box came out first, Wii has the lowest price and both X-Box and Wii have the better exclusive games. When will the tables flip, when will Sony sales rise and overtake the Wii? I'd love to know.

How will the console that is lagging behind in sales, very badly, become the victor of this generation? Is it becasue Sony won the last two? Brand loyalty means nothing in Video Games, it's all about games, Nintendo and Microsoft have them and Sony doesn't. I just don't understand how/why you think Sony will win when they're so far behind?

It's a little too early to judge the Playstation 3's position at this time due to the fact that it's major games aren't even out yet (Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII) and we need to wait and see if more price cuts will make it more competitive.

If it goes the way of the PSP, it's already done for.

dont knock the psp even as the proud nintendo chic even i have to admit that sony has done better than the oher 95% of the other companies that have gone against nintendo. the psp stil exists

Yeah.

Because thats what a mature person would argue with, right?

We all know how the wii is kickin' ass and taken names, but do you think that the momentum can last or is this the big boom before the crash?

I think the wii actually has a chance for nearly ten yrs nintendo's had good and long taste of humble pie and is finally getting its act together. I believe that nintendo's ready to give Microsoft and Sony a fight to the death.

what do you guys think?? (do try not to make it a flame war plz)

I wouldn't say the Wii is a fad, but it is a gimmick. But sometimes, even gimmicks can last years. And I don't think they're going to really hurt Microsoft or Sony, because they really can't attack the same audince. The Wii is getting the same audience the Gameboy had, and it's doing it in the same way. They make fun games that are for everyone. Sure, the system will have a few blockbusters, but not like 360's or PS3's. With the Wii, Nintendo can manufacture a steady stream of cheaply made fun games that anyone can play. It's a formula that rarely ever fails.
