Is there too much division in America?

Wow...it seems as though I've missed quite a conversation.

As have I. Was at a Halloween Party. The kind Backdrifter and lazur would be freaked out by.

As for the initial topic brought forward, I have to agree that I'm seeing a huge divide in the country - for various reasons. As a Christian, I have to say I definitely agree that religion is a major catalyst. Not so much the basic ideals and philosophies of religion, but the fact that we have given far too much attention to the Right Wing zealots who warp the message of Christ for their own perverted, bigoted beliefes and desires.

As a matter of fact, it's true on both sides. Both the Right and the Left have become far too eager to endorse the worst, most ideologically bankrupt representatives of both ends of the spectrum that it creates a significant amount of turmoil and division amongst both sides.

The Right needs to be break free of the relgious extremists' stranglehold and the Left needs to stop endorsing groups like the ACLU (I feel a lot of old school special interest groups like ACLU, GLAAD, and the NAACP are nearing their last legs and are looking for whatever reason they can to stay relevant). All of these organziaations do nothing but serve their own person biases under the guise of "It's what's best for our country" snd should be put out to pasture.

Also what is your definition of United? Or better yet what is your defintion of the United States of America?

Honestly, September 12th 2001 was one of the only days in my life that I seen this country actually unified and everyone was watching each others backs. Well, till the fear mongering came into full effect. Oh, and after our leaders didn't go all in on October 7th to get Osama.

I think the lack of national unity can be laid at G Dubya's feet.

How old are you? This has been going on since at least 1992. I'm no fan of the guy, but Dubya came into office at a time where deep division already existed. The 1990's were very, very politically divisive. I wasn't paying much attention in the 1980's but I've heard they were as well.

The catch-22 in having freedoms of religion, speech, etc. here in America is that everyone uses it against each other, and that not everyone shares the same viewpoint. Hence division.

And he presided over a brief period post-9/11 when not only the entire nation but the entire free world was united behind him, and threw it away.

The Administration of George W. Bush gave this country a strong distrust of Muslim-American Communities. Instead of strongly abolishing that mode of thinking after 9/11, he stoked it. The fact that attacking Obama as a muslim shows the stain on the National consciousness at this time. It's 2008, not 1958. Archie Bunker isn't as cute anymore. Time for that mode of thinking to gather a 6 ft. layer of dirt.

And muslims account for what? 2 percent of the total public? Sorry, that's not enough to cause this level of division. And Archie Bunker's my f***in' hero.:cwink::woot:

I'm just so sick of this multi-cultural BS.

So Muslim-Americans don't count?

Bill Sali, is that you?

Do you think Muslims should be able to be sworn in on the Quran when they achieve Congressional office?

Oh, wait-- why should I ask such a silly thing? Most Muslims support the Democratic Party, and like gays and black people, they don't deserve rights because the bulk of them support liberal policies...

BS?? I was under the impression that this country was founded on the principles of freedom of religion and speech...where a person could believe as they wish without fear of reprisal or being ostracized...? Black people are a small percentage as well...do we not count??? what about Asians???

No, you don't count. According to Kedrell, since most black people support liberal policies, they don't deserve rights (or at least, they shouldn't ask Kedrell for any help). Check out his posts on the previous page.

I saw them....if Obama wins...I'm sure Kedrell and his buddies at Stormfront will either a)move to Canada or some other nation full of white people or b) shut up and deal with it....

Wow, feel better to get that out?

So you believe Muslims are a lesser, dangerous people?

"Multi-cultural BS... "

Ugh... I love this country so much and think being an American is the greatest privilege one could ask for... and then I read this kind of trash. Complete backwards, racist, naive, unintelligent, hate mongering.

The amount of people in this country, hell, in this world, that are so AFRAID of something different than themselves. And all they know how to do with their small brains is to hate what they fear. Cut it down. Make it seem less than themselves.

My grandmother gave me the best advice of my life. "Travel. Travel the world and take every experience you can... meet everyone and anyone you can; listen, don't talk. Learn something before you get too old that you don't want to learn anything new anymore."

Thank god for that woman. Lest I ended up being someone like kedrell.

Simply sickening.

I am a Air Force brat so i got to travel the U.S, and my father around the world. So i got to know and learn 1st hand different ppl and cultures...i can tell you right now it made me a better person to go through those experiences. You are right USMC it is sickening...and if ppl like Kedrell don't change their mentality they will this keep this country from progressing.

I had an aunt who told me the same thing. This year I got to drive from California to NJ, and took trips to London and Paris. I went to the Grand Canyon. I took a Beatles tour in Liverpool. I saw the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo at the Louvre. Hell, I even went to Disneyland.

And every day I get to commute into NYC for work, where everyone is from just about anywhere. It gives you a great perspective about the rest of the world.

I would also think that Muslims make up a little more than 2% of the US population. Anyone have the exact stats?
BTW, even if it were only 2%, that doesn't mean they are any less American than any other, and they deserve as much consideration as anybody else.

I'm starting to think SHH stands for Socialist Hero Hype, given the number of you that are on here. Anyway, continue with all your knee-jerk, liberal reactions to my post. Gee, I must be a rascist huh?:whatever:

Your over-sensitivity only makes me laugh. Keep putting words in my mouth and misinterpreting what I say/taking me out of context. It's what liberals do best, other than trying to steal every penny I have so they can give it to some damn kids for their school lunches. You folks have actually made me decide to vote for McCain now, even though I don't care much for him beyond the war hero thing and was planning on voting for a write in.

During 9/11, Americans were faking their unity. That's why we were so easily dispersed as a nation afterwards. It was like a giant fake orgasm created by a great tragedy, that we all believed was real. I blame the deep rooted evil that we all refuse to admit that dwells in us all.

^Hmm, a cogent thought at last. What're the odds on here?

this I can agree with....we have become suspicious of everyone, even our neighbors....we don't trust anyone outside of our little universe and we wave our flags and pretend to like each other for appearances sake....

Not at all...if you took a look at the Dems tax plan...anyone earning over 250Ks taxes will simply return to the level they were paying prior to Bush taking office...I personally believe tax cuts should be suspended across the board for the next 4-6 years....

I think every American, regardless of race or intelligence, religion or culture should have a voice...and to deny that goes against everything this country is supposed to stand for...
