It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's the Superman Costume Thread! - Part 2

Like I said, it depends on the frame of reference. You mentioned Superman as a symbol. Nothing wrong with that at all. But I immediately thought of specific examples where the meaning of the symbol is essentially spelled out in detail (which somewhat defeats the purpose of a symbol). And it’s this type of thing that people can feel cynical about - if only because it represents bad, ham-fisted writing. Being critical of camp and corn isn’t a rejection of idealism.

Yes, there is what you say and then there is how you say it. Big difference.

just because a Superman movie does bad does not change the meaning of the character. even a child knows that much.

I second that opinion on the red trunks being ridiculous, now at days.

Trunks or no trunks. Superman has never before looked as cool, as he does in MOS. It's freaken badass!

IMO, even if they need to get rid of the trunks, they still haven't found a design as good as the classic design. Not in the New 52, not in MoS.

OKay can we finally dispell the idea that the shield has yellow in it?

I remember getting into a discussion a while ago about no matter what kind of shading there is, there's no way that's actually yellow there. At most it's a bronze or a quite dark gold.

It's got no yellow in it in this picture, the empire pic, nor the still of him with helicopters and the army behind him.

It has yellow in it in set pics, and looked yellow when in the display cabinet...

No idea how it'll look in the actual film :funny:

Yep in that display the colors looked great. I'm not worried about it :oldrazz:

I almost wish they'd just forsaken the yellow entirely and replaced it with black. But I'm not sure how that would look...

Damn, I love the way that the shield looks metallic in this photo!

Yeah, the texture brings out the suit when it needs to.

That font though...

It has yellow, but like the other colors, its very muted. Almost washed out.

But its really only in the official pics. In the footage, all of the colors, including the yellow in the shield, are vibrant.

All the stuff traveling down the side of the suit just sticks out horribly.

Personally I love the muted tone of the suit, I think if they used bright colors it wouldn't fit the style of the suit that well.

I do think it is funny that after all the complaining about the color of red used in SR, this looks a lot closer to that then the traditional red.

oops. i dislike the hairdo more than the suit now.

The problem wasn't the red, IMO, it was the fact that the blue was so bright, it made it look even duller. Cool colors are supposed to recede, and instead the blue was all up in your face.

The MOS red is red. The SR red was maroon. The lighting/filters change them though.

I have to say, the texture and shine of the suit in that cover makes me think that the nanosuit theory may very well turn out to be true.

Is it bad that I wouldn't mind if they went that route at all?

I'm not a huge Superman fan, so things like Jimmy Olsen, trunks, spit-curls, suit being fabric etc are of no interest to me. If it's done well, I'm there.

I really think the hairstyle make him look ulgy.

I really think the hairstyle make him look ulgy.

Maybe it's part of a more believable disguise. Different hairstyles = handsome vs. ugly = "must be two different dudes"

:word:

It's kinda of a pompadour type 80's ish look to me his hair. Like he uses a lot of mousse.
