This movie is far from a self-serving studio project when compared to the last X-Men movie. This movie has an acclaimed director, decent writers, a producer with clout who happens to be the star of the movie and who cares about the character, a fine cast, a solid story (hopefully) that revolves around a central character without a cluster---- of multiple storylines competing against one another, and plenty of pre and post production time in which to properly bring it all together.
The last movie had no director, writers, or cast and was hemorrhaging crew members all the while still moving forward to meet a release date only nine months after filming was set to begin. Nevermind the fact that the studio hired two questionable writers to craft a heavily studio influenced script and was looking to hire any director it could find to pretty much shoot first and ask questions later. On top of that, the studio threw in a slew of cameos (much more so than X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and pretty much resorted to false advertising to lure hesitant fans into seeing the movie.
If you love the X-Men movies, including the last one, then I don't see why there's any reason you should be worried about this one. Thus far, this is probably the smoothest production of an X-Men movie save for maybe X2, cameos and all. If the studio starts displaying posters of Cyclops and Gambit in uniform, while the writers are sent to tell you that, if youre a fan of Cyclops and Gambit, youll love their roles and that this movie is akin to Return of the King, then I would begin to question why the studio is trying to sell the movie so hard.
