Not to my knowledge but highly suspected by Bell's casting.

Is The Thing confirmed as being CGI/Mo-Cap in this?

Four years ago or so - before the project was really taking shape - one of the first bits of news we had was that the Thing would be CGI.

A bit more recently, there was an interview with Jamie Bell in which they touched very briefly on it, and while he didn't say much, he certainly didn't dispute the presumption that he would be doing Mo-Cap work (and I believe he mentioned Andy Serkis).

And with the way things are going with Mo-Cap Planet of the Apes, Mutant Ninja Turtles etc. combined with how bad the suit looked at times in the other films, I think it's a near certainty it will be Mo-Cap CGI.

Here's the interview I was thinking about from April:

http://www.vanityfair.com/vf-hollywood/jamie-bell-interview-turn

"One of my favorite actors in the world is Andy Serkis. I’ve worked with him three or four times now, and I just think he’s the best actor ever. He’s unbelievable. I’ve seen it firsthand, like when we did Kong together and we were using similar kind of technology, I’m assuming, to what we’ll be using on Fantastic Four, it was complete immersion. When Andy was being Kong you wouldn’t go near him because he might throw **** at you. He was a real ****ing gorilla! That’s what it takes, it has to be full-on immersion. For the technology to be able to understand it, for the actors to be able to respond to it, for your performance to come through and maintain a sense of authorship. Andy is a pioneer in this field of acting, complete immersion."

I think it's safe to assume from that interview that, at least as far as Jamie knew in April, it will be CGI.

About time if you ask me, the suit in the previous movies just wasnt upto scratch IMO, The Thing NEEDS to be CGI if you ask me.

Part of me hopes that the Thing is a man-in-a-suit in the early part of the movie. Having him be a mushy orangish creature that is transforming like the Fly.

I can't wait to see Jamie Bell in this movie! I think he looks adorable!

His commet "To go from me,who's a very average 5'8 to a guy who's completely made of rock and 6'8 Is obviously a feat of many different things"he says with laugh "Predominantly CGI"

Interesting that he also seems to be confirming the Thing's height. He could just be throwing a random number, but it sounds pretty specific.

6'8" should be a good height - not overdone, but enough that he should be imposing.

Marvel lists him as 6ft for the comics so if Bell is accurate with that height then he'd be a bit bigger than in the comics

Some artist have drawn him bigger like grey hulk size or one of the smaller hulks.

Bryan Hitch has been mentioned as doing some production design. 6'8" would be consistent with the way Hitch has drawn him:

He can be done photorealistic by this pointed, not even a question.

Over the past couple of decades Marvel have allowed artists to go 'off model' with characters so there's a lot more inconsistency with how some are drawn, how big they are drawn etc, than there used to be.

But when they were more strict on it all for the books the 616 Ben was not really any taller after being changed (so he was still shorter than Reed). His imposing size came from being built like a tank with disproportionate limbs and so on.

The UFF Ben though was always drawn as a lot bigger after the change.

The Hulk is another example btw: He was 'officially' 7ft tall in the 616 books for ages and artists back in the day (up to around the 90's) did stay mostly 'on model' with him, but since then some artists have had him looking like 8, 9, 10ft or more feet tall. This has carried over to the films as the current MCU Hulk (Avengers) is somewhere around 8ft tall (I think he was about 9ft in TIH).

6ft 8" for the Thing is fine by me btw. On film I think him being a bit bigger is fine, and that size boost is not too over the top (unlike what Ang Lee did with his 03 Hulk...).

At this point I'd say the Thing's height is the least our concerns.

My hope at this point is that even if the film sucks, we may get a cool Thing to look at. That would be a small consolation prize.

Oh I agree. I think the Thing (how he looks post change) might be the only thing I might like in this flick.

Um, what? The picture there has the Thing as about the same height as Johnny.

MBJ and Miles Teller are both about 6 feet tall, so at 6'8" he'll be a little taller than both of them, but he won't tower over them.

to put that height in perspective look at, Daniel Cudmore (listed as 6'8")

that guy over towers everyone

The question is will "It's Clobberin' Time" be to fantastical for Trank & Co & will they change it to "Its Disability Time" ?

That looks about right to me. I liked the way Kirby drew him, but when successive artists started drawing him a few inches taller, that worked better. He should be a little bigger than an average person (even before the transformation he was a big guy).

I don't think he should get up into the 7.5' to 8' range that some artists want to make him because then he's not going to fit in a typical room, he won't be able to get into a taxi etc.

But he should be able to stand next to a big offensive lineman without looking small.
