What's odd to me in the poster is the mouth area. It looks like the scrunched up grumpy mouth of an elderly woman.

Please read this http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=489217

at the top of the forum, a warning that has been there since november. Posting/quoting unofficial pics, video, etc can get you into enormous trouble with the studios, please check that thread before posting any pics.\

We are long past warning about those particular pics....

I think that's due to lighting. It does appear as if he's pursing his lips, but his mouthline extends into shadow.

Holy crap!
I hadn't seen that pic! LMAO!!!
Daaaamn! Even Corman did a better job at catching Ben's likeness than that garbage!

Now I know why they've only been showing his butt so far.

Might explain the back shots. Doesn't explain the nudity.

Will they go dickless, black it out, or blur it? That's the question.

Lol. I imagine it's gonna have some effect on Reed being sorry for causing Ben to turn into a rock monster. Now instead of Reed saying "sorry for turning you into this Thing. I'll do whatever it takes to turn you back to normal", it will be "Ben, I'm sorry about your Thing being gone. I promise you I'll try and get it back for you".

He can retract it at will.

And it makes the sound of the rubber wheel of a car backing in or out of a gravel drive way.

It looks a lot like The Thing. I don't really think his brow (in this expression) not being "pronounced enough" or his jaw (in this expression) not being the right shape is enough to say "That's not The Thing".

The "generic rock monster" complaint about the design always gets me, because visually speaking, that's largely what The Thing is. A rock monster with somewhat generic "movie monster" features.

Also, remember what they said about his eyes? Odds are his brow is less pronounced because they want the eyes to do a lot of the emoting.

The specifics of the "rocky orange" look isn't the important part of the character anyway. Not by a long shot.

Also, does anyone else find it oddly ironic that this design for Ben is being called "ugly"? Isn't that one of the points of Ben's transformation into The Thing?

@GBRIELGRY: #F4 looks really promising, The Thing looks really well done. Extremely competent capture work by the looks of it.

This. The uglier the better IMO.

In a world in which we don't see a lot of big, rocky orange guys, the image in that poster might be close enough that you can tell that's who it's supposed to be.

But with CGI, there's no excuse for why they couldn't have nailed his key features better than they did.

The more i look at it, better he looks. I think he will look great on-screen. My only fear is how will Torch look like, the fire effects so far haven't been very convincing.

I want to see a different shot. I have a feeling this might just be a lousy shot, but I can't tell. And he could look better or could look worse. If he looks worse, that's going to be pretty bad.

I get the idea that he should be ugly and misshapen - but the few characteristics that separate the Thing from other rock monsters include orange rocks, the wider brow, 4 toes, 3 finger+thumb, blue eyes, wide mouth.

It can't be that difficult to provide those features, otherwise, he is just a generic rock monster.

4 toes, 3 finger+thumb,

I'm willing to bet we're not going to get this and that's going to look very wrong to me . . . though I'm sure we'll have plenty of people who don't give a s*** telling us they don't give a s***.

I think that X-fans would have had a field day if Logan didn't have his pointed hair - it would have destroyed the character.

That'd be me. The number of digits The Thing has? So low on my list of priorities that it counts as "don't give a s***."
