Thing is there is no single definitive size for the Thing as it has fluctuated over the years.

I really hope he says it...

Would be a prime opportunity. Can't make it out but looks like he's about to go clobber Doom.

^either that or he's trying to start a lawn mower lol

Notice how heavy he looks? None of his movements are quick. Definitely reads as a scary monster.

Well, we are gonna get a definitive size of one thing if he is gonna be buck naked throughout...:cwink:

Seriously though, yes the days of Marvel requiring artists to stay 'on model' for characters are long past. Back in the day when I was first reading the books the Hulk was described and drawn to be 7ft tall, and the Thing was shorter than Reed. Both are usually drawn bigger these days, and to varying sizes depending on which artist is doing it.

The current Avengers movie Hulk is about 8ft tall give or take (wisely gone down since Ang Lee's extremes. Was about 9ft I think in TIH). The new Thing looks to be about 6.5 ft going by the side by side back shot of them all together (Teller is 6ft tall so going by that). Since that's actual footage I figure that's a better guide to go by than the poster.

Been a while since Ive seen Hulk but I think even in that his size fluctuated as he got bigger when he got angrier

That is a bit weird. Guess they're going for the Watchmen route of 'why would he bother?'

____

Ben seems quite lost at the first half, aimless in life. He will most likely want to be rid of his powers but given how directionless he seems at the start perhaps being the Thing give him a purpose.

In Ang Lee's 03 Hulk he certainly (and visibly) did: He started at about 9ft (1st change in the labs), was seen growing up to 12ft after the second when being shot at outside his house (and he was too damned big then), then was shown growing again up to about 15ft tall when he was trapped in the foam.

In TIH I think he was about 9ft throughout. In Avengers I think it was about 8ft throughout. I'm not aware there were any deliberate size fluctuations in those (may have been some by the CGI artists to accommodate some scenes, but a size shift for increased anger was not a defined trait).

Yes, Ang Lee did that in his version (it is one of the many things that comic fans complained about, it was dropped in the next Hulk solo movie and the first AVENGERS movie).

Only Hulk comics I've read is The End, Planet Hulk and WHH but I thought that was accurate to the character in the comics

Don't know if it's been said, but it's pretty much guaranteed Thing will have a baseball-esque scene with some big beam or something similar to replicate a bat. Too many batting scenes in the trailers for that not to happen. Will probably be where they stick the "It's Clobberin' Time!" line in.

Teller will probably say "Knock it out of the park, Ben."

Love the last part of the trailer!

Reed:2 minutes
*The Thing lands in the ground in less than a minute*
Reed: maybe less than that
*Sue smiles*

Cute <333

Well, if he has nothing down there (deprived of his meat & 2 veg ala TIH's Abomination) then I suppose there's nothing to hide....Poor Ben...:csad:

I think the overall look of the Thing is ok, but they need to really do something about his movement. When he drops from the plane it seemed to me that he falls like an action figure with no movement and in at least one clip of him walking it looks like they're moving that leaked bust from sided to side.

The lack of facial expression is annoying me atm. Been the same closed mouth look in everything we have seen so far.

I don't like (in this order):

1. The lumpy rocks that stick out randomly at spots.
2. The Popeye forearms.
3. The generic face with Story-like features and brow.
4. The lack of trademark three-fingered hand with huge, blocky fingers.
5. The @$@%#$@*%^* lack of pants.
6. The general CGI looks a little shaky and inconsistent.

But I'll live. It's just frustrating that CGI gives them the freedom to design the character any way they want, and they could have maintained the iconic and unique design features but chose not to.

I can definitely see Bell's face in the angular design of The Thing's face.

I love how slow looking he is. So far, it's looking like they nailed the sense of mass. This is not a guy who can get things done quickly, but god help you if ever gets close enough to land a punch.

Yeah same here. Him walking and moving slowly make it more realistic. And I guess Ben isnt that used yet to his new weight.
