while currently playing through SS i have rekindled my pure hearted for the forced HM aspect

seriously i have to give my water type 3 hm moves or give up a slot to a crappy hm slave to simple progress

Can't stop playing Pearl; even bought the first manga today from Diamond and Pearl.

yeah I hated that, especially at the end with Mt. Silver. I have to fight the highest level trainer in the game and I need to take along a ****** HM slave? To Hell with that.

By the way, Darkrai is currently available as a mystery gift through the Nintendo WFC. I don't know how long it'll be available, but get on it!!!

so about to hit victory road in soul silver, i have

haunter lv 35: shadow claw, confuse ray, shadow ball, shadow punch
charizard lv 41 : slash, dragon rage, blast burn, fire fang
kadabra lv 37: recover, psycho cut, psybeam, reflect
pikachu lv 41: thunderbolt, iron tail, slam, discharge
blastoise lv 38: aqua tail, surf, water pulse, skull bash
pidgeot lv 38: fly, twister, gust, wing attack

before anyone says i know that team would be murdered online, but i never play online and i know the choices are kinda bland but i have a nostalgic look for yellow the first game i played hence the choices

so any tips on changes to move sets, tms to add or should i evolve haunter and kadabra or wait till a higher level

yeah, I think you're gonna get slaughtered if you're strongest guy is only lvl 41.

well of course i'd spend a load of time on victory rd i never take on the elite 4 unless my guys are a minimum of lv 45

You'll be fine. Stock up on Full Heal, Revive, Max/Hyper/Super Potion and you're set.

I've beaten the Elite 4 with lower level Pokemon. As long as you know the element chart weakness/strength you'll whiz through this.

Haunter has all Ghost type moves. You want to give him more variety. Also, he and Gengar have great Special Attack, so giving them Physical Attack moves is a waste. Get rid of Shadow Claw, give him something like Giga Drain (I think he can still learn it), Energy Ball, Pyschic, Thunderbolt or status moves like Will-O-Wisp or Toxic.

For Charizard, Dragon Rage sucks, it always does 40 damage. Teach him Dragon Claw instead. Not a fan of Blast Burn, Fire Blast is better. Fire Fang will do until he can learn Flare Blitz. Your team lacks a Fighting move, I'd recommend teaching him Brick Break.

For Kadabra, Psycho Cut is pointless since, like Haunter, he has great Special Attack but terrible Physical Attack. Have him learn Psychic when he can, Future Sight is also good. Those 2 and Reflect and Recover should be enough. Grass Knot is another good option.

Pikachu, Steel moves kinda suck so Iron Tail is a waste. Teach it Thunder Wave. Slam is also pointless since he has higher Special Attack than Physical and it's a normal move.

Blastoise, replace Aqua Tail with Waterfall. 10 less base damage but it's another HM you won't need a slave for and has better accuracy. Definitely recommend Ice Beam when you can get it. Brick Break, Rock Slide, and Earthquake would also be good.

For Pidgeotto, Twister and Gust are pointless since they're Special and he's better with Physical. You should get Aerial Ace since it's a guaranteed hit and Roost when it hits level 44.

Those are the moves I suggest but you can beat the game with anything. I definitely do recommend getting some Fighting, Rock, and Ground moves since they're the least resisted, adding more type variety, and taking advantage of their higher stats as is the case with Haunter, Kadabra, and Pidgeotto.

Other than that, definitely evolve Haunter and Kadabra. You should grind them to about level 50.

The team I settled on during my time with Platinum (and who have transfered through Heart Gold and into Black) is:

Venusaur: Frenzy Plant, Seed Bomb, Sludge Bomb, Earthquake
Charizard: Flamethrower, Blast Burn, Dragon Pulse, Fly
Blastoise: Hydro Cannon, Skull Bash, Ice Beam, Surf
Gengar: Psychic, Dark Pulse, Destiny Bond, Shadow Ball
Luxray: Thunderbolt, Crunch, Thunder, Superpower
Togekiss: Aura Sphere, Sky Attack, Hyper Beam, Extreme

Nothing wrong with the classics, though I mixed a few newbies in there because they treated me well.

I prefer to use classics on everything. I just know them better, and am much more comfortable using them.

I went a little nuts yesterday and raised a lv 39 Deino to a lv 76 Hydreigon yesterday. He's pretty kickass. Team I'm rolling on Black version is

Hydreigon lv 76
Mismagius lv 78
Charizard lv 87
Blastoise lv 78
Mamoswine lv 81
Raichu lv 74

The Blastoise and Charizard are mine from FireRed as is the Raichu. Can't go wrong with the classics. I doubt the team will hold up too well online since I don't really EV train all that seriously. I just assembled Pokemon I really like and thus far none of my friends have managed to beat me. I was going to have Nidoking on the team, but I liked the options that Mamoswine gave me.

I think I still have to catch a Deino :csad:

I hope you kept Deino from evolving, he learns all of his moves before the level Hydreigon evolves.

nah, he evolved normally at 50 then 64. Hydreigon is at 79 now and I'm pretty happy with his move set.

I'm reading the Yellow chapters of the Pokemon Special manga. Good stuff; evil Elite 4 and good/bad gym leaders are a nice touch. Blue's team is pretty cool. So far I've seen Charizard, Scyther and Golduck.

Since classes are out, I'm restarting my Fire Red game and doing the soft reset deal to try to get a shiny Charmander. The first shiny I encountered in the wild--ever, since first getting Silver back when it was released--was the second stage of the Stoutland line.

I need two more badges in Pearl and then I'm going in gun blazing against the elite.

cheers mate i'll give a look at the suggestions, they actually seem like they would improve the team hugely. sadly though most of the tm's are in kanto after the elite 4 lol

Working on catching legendaries today. What a pain in the ass. An unnecessary pain in the ass.

I need two more badges in Pearl and then I'm going in gun blazing against the elite.

Who did you start with? I wasn't fond of any of the Sinnoh starters, but eventually went with Chimchar because Infernape looked badass.

My best friend and I spent a couple hours battling last night. He only managed to beat me twice and that was because I'd reached the point where I was just grabbing whoever was in my PC boxes and throwing them into battle. He has so little grasp on type effectiveness that I started to feel bad for him. Throwing a poison pokemon out to battle my Steelix? not very smart.

I went Chimchar as well, but as soon as I could I sent over my Kanto starters.

Before Pearl, I haven't played since Sliver(10+ years). Can you transfer your Pokemon from older games over to the recent?

You can transfer Pokemon from GBA games to the DS games, but it's irreversible once you do it.

It's impossible to transfer Pokemon from GB/C to the GBA or DS games since they changed the data structuring in Gen III.
