I hated in Diamond how you needed Waterfall to go from Indigo Plateau to Victory Road.

Platinum I had every HM on my team. I didn't know what else to put on some of them and they weren't high enough that they knew their good moves.

seemed like in soul silver there was alot of unnecessary Rock Climbing. I hate that ****

The worst was in RS where you needed Rock Smash whenever you wanted to go north up the mountain/desert area.

I'm glad to hear HM's take a back seat. I thought it was ridiculous that I have to bring an HM ****e to fight Red in Heart Gold. Toughest fight of the game and you have to use atleast 1 HM to reach him.

Meanwhile finally getting somewhere in Platinum again lol. I stopped for awhile trying to get my Riolu egg to be female, and after resetting and trying again a ridiculous amount of times I said screw it, settled on a Brave proud of it's power male, boosted his speed with EV training (which I'm not very good at lol). I was mainly wanting the ability to breed whatever Lucario I want, but can wait on a ditto.

Right now my team is Infernape (flame wheel, fire blast, close combat, grass knot), Lucario (still low in level, drain punch is his only decent move), Torterra (wood hammer, giga drain, earthquake, and synthesis), Drapion (poison jab, night slash, accupressure, toxic spikes), Gabite (earthquake, dragon claw, fire blast, sandstorm), and Empoleon (Ice beam, brine, flash cannon, and stealth rock). All around 43 (except Lucario), about to fight the 6th gym. I was thinking about switching Torterra for Abomasnow (to keep grass and add an ice type since Torterra's ground type is redundant with Garchomp's), but after looking him up Abomasnow looks kinda sucky in stats and weaknesses :(. I also want to replace Empoleon as I just find him boring, but not wanting to use water pokemon I've used before like Gyarados or Starmie, if anyone has advice for a suitable replacement 4th gen replacement pokemon for Empoleon.

Edit - How's Mamoswine? I looked him up, when I think Ice moves I think S. Atk, but it's his Atk that's through the roof. Plus he has a ton of weaknesses, only 1 resistance, and 1 unaffected. However threads about him seemed positive when I skimmed through a few from google.

I have a Mamoswine, he's around lv 84 and he is a beast. He may have a ton of weakness, but he's still pretty damn good. I love my Mamoswine, he carried me through most of Platinum

Heh, I bred like 12 Swinubs, and then decided just to stick with Empoleon. He's a good 'mon, I just think I'm water pokemon'd out. Plus I rarely take Ice pokemon with me (haven't since FR LG Lapras for a bit). I spent some heart scales tho, redid some moves, evolved Gabite to Garchomp, and now am feeling much better.....now what to do with the two boxes full of Swinubs, Chimchars, Croagunks, Skorupis, and Piplups I have lol.

Edit - Plus I do like the occasional team shake up rather than using the same six from start to finish. Still hurts tho *sniff* when you no longer have room for a good pokemon heh. Kicking out my adamant Staraptor that I got on my second catch in Platinum (after a Bidoof...ugh) was a pretty tough decision.

Double Edit - Just caught my first shiny pokemon ever lol, a green eared Clefairy. Got it on the first throw with no dmg (was afraid to attack it considering the lvl gap) with a fitting premiere ball.

Finally beat the pokemon platinum league. Now deciding if I want to just beef up against the Elite 4, or mess around a bit. I heard after you get Heatran that the Elite 4 buff up, and my 'mon are still setting around lvl 56.

Also nice when the GTS actually works in your favor lol. Was able to get a lvl 1 Spiritomb holding a masterball for my Mantyke (aside from the MB being a great free item, was that I was thinking of replacing Drapion with Spiritomb since Drapion's not cutting it so well anymore). Then got a Feebas for one of my zillion swinubs lol. Then remembered I could catch Ditto's now and my first two catches were a modest and adamant (I remember hearing there's a way to transfer natures of the parent over, so thinking modest Milotic to replace my Empoleon).

Also thinking about buying another DS, maybe just a cheap one so I can transfer all of my Pokemon over. Thinking about restarting Heart Gold while I wait for Black & White, and transfering over a baby whatever pokemon I feel like having on the team at that moment rather than using caught pokemon this time around.

I also need to remember to beat Red still on HG before I restart because I quit on it for a bit in the middle of training a Pupitar so I could play Platinum. So haven't even gotten the Hoenn starter yet.

You might as wait for the 3DS instead of buying another used DS, no?

Purchase Black and White, and then buy 3DS to accompany said game.

Well I meant like a cheap 2nd hand one I use just for trading and such, not another DSI XL. I've seen DS's for $40 locally on Craigslist, so less than a new game. I would hold off on a new 3DS, but I'm not sure that having just gotten into DS that I'm ready to be a first day buyer of the 3DS, and also not sure I want to wait that long to have the ability to transfer everything over and restart again if I feel like it. Especially if I buy Black, and then they come out with Grey a bit after with all the bells and whistles, and I want to transfer everything to it.

can you trade from 3DS to DS and vice versa with the Poke games????

hmm, well I'm hoping we can. I really want to do some trading between Platinum and SoulSilver and to Black or White. Once I get the 3DS I'll have my old DS so I'll keep my fingers crossed

It can play the games, I don't see why it wouldn't be able to trade with the original DS.
It probably could in theory but there will be something different in the way the wireless works that means you will have to buy another 3DS.

But it plays all the DS games, they would be foolish to not make the wireless backwards compatible in addition to whatever new functions the 3DS has.

If it has wireless I don't see why you can't go DS game to DS game without any difficulty

When the Gameboy Advance came out me and my friend were excited because we got a Link Cable for it and we could finally trade between our Pokemon Red and Blue games. We thought it would work, after all the GBA can play the games right? Nope, it couldn't be done. You needed a special Link Cable to do so, something I didn't find out until years later.

Also you couldn't use Pokemon LeafGreen and Emerald's Wireless capabilities while playing them on the DS.

I would be shocked if I can't trade Pokemon between my 3DS and my DSi locally.

I thought I'd try out a few of the pokemon evolutionary lines I skipped before that got new evo's in gen IV. Namely Gallade and Rhyperior (I have played with Magmar and Electrabuzz back in gen 1 and even got Electrivire and Magmotar in HG, but never cared for the Ryhorn line and never raised a Gardevoir). I was kinda team shuffling around, and put up Torterra, Drapion, and Empoleon for an Adamant Rhyperior, pain split Spiritomb (which I have a few extra of), and a bold sleep talk surf/ice beam Milotic. Things were working out great, did EV training, got all of the natures and moves I wanted, until I noticed I had 0 water counters, which worried me more when I was trying to think what would happen if I went up against a Gyarados lol. So decided to replace Infernape with a thunderpunch Adamant Gallade with attack and speed EV's. Now I just have to go thru the long and boring process of leveling everything up :(. Gotta say tho, I'm liking the changes. Even at lvl 27 Gallade is at 100 attack, and despite their slow, slow speeds, Rhyperior and Spiritomb can take hits and give them back even harder.

Two side notes, decided to get a Macho Brace in Platinum finally to speed up EV training...getting a female Combee is a *****. Took forever to get one. Second, while I was breeding for a male Adamant Ralts I ended up with a female Adamant. So I thought I'd try the everstone trick with breeding, didn't work so well lol. Took a ton of eggs to finally get an adamant male. Reason I bring it up tho is because I also bred a Jolly I believe it was (minus special attack plus speed) male Ralts while I was at if, which I've seen ppl say is good for a Gallade as well. So if anyone wants it just let me know.
