J.J. Abrams on Spoilers in 'Wired' article

Abrams' Superman would probably have been pretty damn exciting.

is that bill from 24 in a magneto suit in your avatar bunk?

Meh. I watch movies I like over and over again. If they're good then the subsequent viewings are not ruined (spoiled) by the knowledge I gain through the first viewing.

If all a film has going for it is some surprise then it's worthless to me anyways.

i'm going to disagree with him. ideas should stand up to repeat viewings. so if you know what will happen like watching a favorite movie again; it should still be entertaining. the initial surprise can be the spoiler itself. sure it changes things abit but people have the option to be spoiled or not. to be carefully given the surprise as the author intends at the timing they intend or not.

What is this?

The reason Abrams doesn't like spoilers is because he has no clue what he intends to do with a show when he starts it or where it's going so he's sick of feeling like a moron everytime people ask him what's gonna happen next.

the reason why i agree with JJ is because of the words you guys used. "repeated viewing".

if you know the spoiler, then it's as if you are watching it the second time. the movies are meant to be an experience. and the reason the spoilers exists is because it's as if you are moving with the character, so it feels as if you are in the movie with the character. you are learning info as they do, and you are thinking the same way they do.

i'll tell you, i knew about the bruce willis thing, and that ducard was really Ras AG before watching those films. biggest regrets. i'm glad i didn't know about rachael dawes, which i'm sure many found out before the film on these boards, and i can say, it was amazing being able to be genuinely surprise. it hasn't changed my viewing of the film multiple times because of the spoiler though, at all.

i don't think having a spoiler/twist in the movie means it's meant to be seen once. filmmakers still make movies to be seen multiple times.

and you can enjoy the way, what you knew was going to happen, happens. lost is a prime example of this as it shows you the future and then lets you know how it happened and live the moment with the character.

Yeah, JJ Abrams Superman script was pretty ****ing terrible. Sure, it would of been exciting, same way Transformers 2 is exciting.

shut up! you're kidding?!! HAHAHAHA what a guess!

nice choice. never thought of him.

 James Morrison is awesome.

There would probably also be people in his movie, just like Transformers. Hooray for useless comparisons.

Um not, it's not a useless comparison, you just caught feelings. Making a movie exciting does not make a movie good. Learn to grasp complex ideas please.

..........and this looks like it's starting to pick up

disapointment and dismissal is going around. try not too be too shamed or insulted about it.

Pearl Harbor was also damn exciting. Actually, insert any Bay movie* and the comparison works.

The Rock is still awesome though.

About Transformers? ****, I liked the movie, I've seen it twice. Doesn't mean I think it's an actual good movie. Like I said, it's exciting, not necessarily good.

no about someone disagreeing with you.

no about someone disagreeing with you.

Ah, see it's not about someone disagreeing with me, I don't mind that at all. It's the manner that it's done "useless comparisons", far from it.

yes they were totally pitht and you were all hey don't pitht me. or how dare you pitht me or even attempt to pitht me.

Well this was more disappointing then X3
