The Amazing Spider-Man J Jonah Jameson in the Reboot

I agree. JK SImmons did great as the grumpy editor caricature, but I hope Jameson will be more than a comic relief this time.

While I do think Hugh Laurie could certainly deliver J. Jonah Jameson's characteristic snark, the other qualities Jonah has--which J.K. Simmons replicated very well--is that's he's also fast-talking, overly-stressed, hypocritical, and a tightwad. And the one actor who immediately pops into my head that can perfectly exhibit all those qualities is Paul Giamatti

Yes, I know, he's actually stated that he wants to play the part of the Rhino in a future Spider-Man film, but he definitely can capture Jonah's personality to a tee. Just give him Jonah's characteristic flattop and mustache.
Hugh Laurie would do great. Don't let his cool, calculating delivery in House make anyone think otherwise. He can pull off the fast talkin stuff, no problem. He actually started out as a comedian as well.

I love Paul G, but I don't see him in the role.

Sam Elliot or R. Lee Ermey would be good choices for JJ.

Cranston I can see doing it. He was crazy as the general in John Carter, and I didn't even recognize him as the russian tiger in Madagascar.

I'd like to see Jameson's hatred of Spider-Man be based in the fear that he's a detriment to the NYPD. Something that mirrors the concerns of real world officers who deal with "vigilantes" like Phoenix Jones.

I reckon Jeff Bridges would have made a brilliant J. Jonah Jameson. A pity he's already been Obadiah Stane though!! :(

Bryan Cranston would be awesome too I gotta admit. Wouldn't mind giving Dennis Quaid a go too if you ask me. R. Lee Ermey I dunno - can't get his character in Full Metal Jacket out of my head I'm afraid. As for Sam Elliott - well he probably would get the look down-pat though his moustache would have to be groomed a little tidier, but his voice just doesn't scream Jameson to me.

And Stephen Lang I think would be amazing as well.

Just see R. Lee Ermey in Full Metal Jacket haha

As much as I would absolutely love Bryan Cranston as JJ, the argument that he would make a great James Gordon is just so much better. Steven Lang was my choice before Cranston's name came up, though.

Cranston as JJ? I don't really see it, but I could be wrong.

No matter what, it will be really difficult to top Simmons version of the character. But then again, that's the only version we have seen (Not counting the 70s TV show) so far.

I seriously don't think they should try to top JK Simmons. I'm just hoping that whoever gets the job will be able to depart from JK Simmons's portrayal and still be able to get a good idea of J. Jonah Jameson.

Hmm John Slattery too would be great, but seeing as he's already been Howard Stark? Yeah yeah I know - Chris Evans as Johnny Storm and Steve Rogers, Sam Elliott as Thunderbolt Ross and that other Ghost Rider, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique and that chick in the Punisher!!! :p

Ahh ignorance. Gotta love it guy :)

Indeed Hugh Laurie started off in comedy.

Just an idea that he could do a comedic JJ. But I want a more serious JJ, which he could do. Still funny and nuts, but not JK/Raimi version.

:lmao: I love 'A Bit of Fry and Laurie'. It never gets old.

Anyway, Hugh Laurie has been my pick for JJJ for ages now. I hope he's considered for the part. Come on Marc Webb, make my dreams come true.

You know... Giamatti could be a good Mac Gargan if they went this route. Start him out as an always apologetic, weaselly little simpleton before becoming the buffed up, take no prisoners and crap from anyone Scorpion.
