The Amazing Spider-Man J Jonah Jameson in the Reboot

but raimi puts his brother in all of his movies and shows somewhere, that's y. alot of the characters in the movie didnt have as much screen time as the should have. we never even got to see peter develop a real relationship with anybody other than mj and barely even saw him talk to betty.

I loved JK but I don't know if I want JJJ as comic relief any more and one thing that annoyed was robbie is supposed to be assistant editor in chief so hoffman wasn't needed as far as I'm concerned he took screen time away from robbie.

I agree.

Btw, I noticed that there was a character in one episode of the 1978 Spiderman TV series, a female journalist called Gale Hoffman. Coincidence?

Let everyone in the previous films go. Did Chris Nolan try to scoop up actors from Tim Burton's Batman? Let it go and start anew...that's what a reboot is. ANEW!

The guy from Avatar.... perfect J.Jonah Jameson.

Great casting.

We have to have someone who has the voice, screen presense, and can bring a lil bit of hilarity.

exactly

No way Simmons will be back. And for everyone saying it worked with Casino Royale, stop. It worked with Bond because the Bond movies have always been a revolving door with people replacing characters. There has been 6 people to play James Bond. There's been 1, count it 1, Spider-man, and one Spider-man franchise. It would be confusing as hell to have JK Simmons start over and meet Parker again, etc. Even more that he would look the same, act the same, when it will be a different franchise. It's just a stupid thought and boggles my mind that anyone would think they "should" keep him, and even more that people think they will. And to the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality, that logic shouldn't even be uttered around this bull ***** "reboot" nonsense. The franchise wasn't broke and certainly won't be fixed by this disaster of an idea, but that's another discussion entirely.

Yes, Bond's become a revolving door of actors...but do you really think Spider-man isn't headed down that path? You think Spider-man's going anywhere? No way in heck is that going to happen, the character's too popular. He's on his way to becoming the next Bond-style character.

And honestly, if a new actor is playing Spider-man, Spider-man is younger and now in highschool, a new actress is playing MJ, Spider-man is surrounded by a new cast of characters, and a new cast of villains, but they keep Simmions as Jolly Jonah....I really, really doubt people are going to go

"WOAH, JUST WAIT A MINUTE. Even though EVERYTHING ELSE in this movie is completely different, they have the same dude playing JJ, and now I'm completely confused. I just can't comprehend that."

....yeah, probably not. Keeping Simmions would work just fine. People will get that it's a new series with a new take.

No, but Joel Schumacher did. I understand his version wasn't exactly a 'reboot', but it drifted pretty radically from what Tim Burton set up.

Yeah, what Infinity said, and also.... he does not have to act the exact same way, he could play a more serious, realistic JJJ, easily, if given the right script. About the only deadly serious moment he had in the 3 Raimi's was his 'You're Fired!' moment when he got rid of Brock.
JKS is an outstanding actor, if all you think he is capable of is comedy scenes you should really check otu some of his other work in HBO's Oz.
I would like to see him return, and do more serious scenes.
I mean, even little things, like, the first scene with him in SM2 kind of bugs me, it's not very realistic at all, it's cartoony and simplistic, even though with a little tiny tweak it could've been, that's why it bugs me.
Pete gives him a very generic spider-man photo of spidey swinging through the city, and JJ acts as if this is big news and snaps the pic up, whil;e giving a very generic headline he'll attach to it of 'Masked Menace terrorizes City'. As if he hasn't had many photos like that before, or hit out with headlines like that before.
If we're getting a more 'realistic' movie, I'd like to see how Jameson twists certain situations against Spider-man, like, Pete comes in with a set of photos of SM fighting thugs in a warehouse, Jameson goes through all the photos and picks out the one photo that shows Spidey damaging property or something.
Just something that shows how the news can be manipulated by the press, doesn't have to be overcomplicated.

This made me literally LOL. Not that I'm disagreeing with you, I just think the quote is effin' hilarious.

Sadly, though: there was that small fraction of people who were bewildered that Heath Ledger was playing the Joker because they somehow thought Nolan's Batman series was part of Burton's continuity. So, yeah, there actually are people out there (who need to bred out of society) who would be stupid enough to let that mind-**** them to death.

It wasnt suposed to be a remake at all it was a continuation of the tim burton films.

With a different tone, bue yes.

They even made a reference to Jack Napier and Catwoman.

I for one hope they keep J.K.Simmons, he is basically JJ, I don't see anyone else who could pull it off.

Then you're not thinking hard enough.:oldrazz:

I loved JK in the role, but Dennis Farina could do an awesome job as well.

Maybe, but I'd rather have Fincher on a Hulk movie. The property just fits his style better.

I understand that, which is why I said I knew it wasn't a reboot. What I AM saying is that Shumacher went into a completely different direction and tone with his Batman, but yet still used the same Alfred and Gordon. Point I'm making is that it's very possible they can still use Simmons even with a radically different direction and tone.

But why cast the same guy again? It's a step back in a supposed "rebooted" franchise. There's plenty of capable actors who could play the role, I don't understand this mentality that since he was so good, he shold just play him again. Aunt May was good, Connors was good, hell even Tobey was good (IMO), why only keep one actor in the same role?

Some good suggestions already. Another idea that comes to mind is Chris Cooper.

Personally, he seems more like the homey, down-to-earth type, who would just sit down and have a nice conversation with, which would be perfect for Uncle Ben, but not for J. Jonah Jameson. And his accent would be a bit of a problem.

yeah u're right it's possible. i would love to see jk come back but not as much as i would love to see how well somebody else could do it.
