It's started filming?

Darthy has trouble with the notion that everyone doesn't see things the same as him. :cwink:

How much info on the story itself do we have? It's set early in Jack's career but I wonder how early. He's married so it cannot be that early. Are they living in the US or in England at this point? Do they have the kids? Is the wife head of surgery, etc.

It's after the Marines and before the CIA is all I've read. He's working as a stock broker for a private company in Russia.

I hated her in that movie. Her accent was embarrassingly bad and she was way too over the top

Lies. :oldrazz:

I am just capable of not basing everything on one barometer.

Oh what the hell ever. I made one post expressing an actress preference and you chose to act like I personally took a **** in your sippy cup. Other people are going to have different opinions from you. You ought to know this already, or else you're just trolling. Grow up.

She was actually quite toned down considering the role. How do you think people who suffer from such forms of mental illness act, especially in the environment in which they were treated at the time? From all accounts it was and still is very uncomfortable, ugly, and embarrassing.

And I have heard the accent complaint before but never understood it. What dialect do you think she is speaking? I remember an interview were she mentioned a specific dialect that Cornberg requested.

You took a dump in Captain Sippy? :csad:

You seem to acknowledge that Lilly was an inferior actress and you preferred Lilly for another reason. If you find her superior in that department, but you didn't seem to indicate that at all.

Evie hasn't had the opportunity to even be as tested as Knightley who isn't that great anyway IMO, but lets be real, this role isn't going to be Vesper, the actress will need to look pretty, be spunky and act like the ideal wifey, either actress could comfortably pull this role off.

Honestly if it wasn't for Chris Pine I doubt I'd have much interest at all. I don't know how well Jack Ryan can sell a movie without Clancy's name attached.

Imo, that style of thinking why there hasn't been a lot of Vespers in Bond. You could very well be right, but I hope not. I hope the role is more akin to Marie in Bourne. My second favorite "Bond" girl.

And Keira is amazing imo. Outside the Pirate sequels, her work since and including P&P has been great. Atonement, The Duchess, Silk, Never Let Me Go, The Edge of Love, Last Night, Seeking a Friend. She must be doing something right for Joe Wright to keep casting her as his lead.

No, that was you trying to put words into my mouth -

At any rate, the conversation is over. I've had enough of your routine for one day.

Your response-

Doesn't matter. I like her more.

"Doesn't matter" seems to indicate that you agree that Knightley is a better actress, but don't care.

I agree, they have crossed over into that era like when they were doing "original" stories from Bond. I'm sure like those it'll have enough recognizable stuff in it so you'll still say it's Ryan.

Like the first time I saw TSWLM and I was all, what the heck is this?

When I was growing up I had no idea there were Bond novels. Hell, same with Jack Ryan.

My father had them all, in fact my collection started out because of his. My father read men's action novels so as a kid/teen I had access to all the Fleming, Clancy, Ludlum, etc I could handle.

That sounds awesome. My family isn't full of readers so I had to sort of find my own way. I was in my teens before I read a Bond novel. Was a bit shocked by it. Wasn't the same character I had grown up with.

How similar is film Ryan to his book counterpart?

Depends on who is playing him and where/when in his career he is. Baldwin was great in the role though he was too old for the role (THFRO taking place early in his CIA career), if THFRO could have had Affleck it would have been more convincing. Same with Patriot Games with a much older Ford playing Ryan in a story set 3 years before THFRO.

I think they'll definitely make it more in line with Bond and Bourne than the previous Ryan movies, and they can still use Clancy's name due to the character can't they?

That's not what the role is though and never has been, it's not a style of thinking and simply a case of who the character is.

Being on Joe Wright's speed dial doesn't mean anything to me personally, I don't rate him all that highly. Atonement was good and his cinematographer choice is good, but other than that, meh. I'm not saying she's not a solid actress, I just don't think she is even close to amazing.

Kind of like the "Sean Connery as Ian Fleming's James Bond" sort of thing?

Ah, then you are probably right. My mistake.

Well to each their own, I am personally big Joe Wright. Probably my favorite "newer" director, on par with Nolan. P&P, Atonement and Hanna are all beautiful and I am a big fan of his casting, editing and his all encompassing storytelling. Also always seems to make the right choice when it comes to score.

Question though, how many of her lesser mainstream films have you seen?
