Saw this last night and I got to say this was better than I expected. The CGI to the giants really didn't bother me as much. It was a pretty good movie.

Roeper gave it three and a half. Ebert is still under the weather I assume. I think you have to go into it with kind of a Harryhausen mindset.

It's getting mixed reviews.There are some decent ones but the negative ones are drowning out the postive ones.Even some who give It around a c said the problem Isn't Bryan Singer's direction or the cast It's the script.Apparently this Is film where they should have spent more money on script.Obviously the final results on giants effects aren't helping It.

There have been some who after seeing It said It was better than they thought It would be.

Most of those so called good reviews are mixed but I'm not surprised as the movie trailers never made the film look good. Oz will get lame reviews as well, the difference is that Oz had great marketing so it will do well at the box office. Jack is headed for a John Carter style failure domestically unless it explodes after those terrible 10pm/midnight numbers.

Those Friday numbers are going to be so interesting.

This was entertaining, I'd say 7 - 8 / 10, there were some areas the could have been better but overall definitely going to get the dvd when it comes out. The ending was really well done.

As I said before and I'll say again - WB were complete morons with the release date. You have people putting this side by side with Oz - it was never going to do well with that because if you can only afford to see one, they'd opt with Oz since it's an already pre-established franchise. It would have done much better in a different release date, and frankly - I don't see any logic behind this decision at all. I don't see its performance saying anything about the film itself and more about the lack of regard Warners, for whatever reason, showed towards it. So, I wouldn't say it's a "John Carter" -- that film just didn't catch on, but it had very open seas ahead of it with not a lot of competition. Here, I'd say competition is a strong part of the reason why it didn't do better.

Also I kinda doubt Oz is going to get in "lame" reviews since the word so far has been abundantly positive about it.

What a genius. By intentionally releasing bad trailers, the man lowered mass expectations enough that they will be genuinely surprised that the film isn't absolutely awful.

I enjoyed the film. The problem with this film is a problem evident with several Bryan Singer films -- the characters feel partially defined and there's too much going around to adequately flesh them out and resolve the characters' relationships with one another. Granted, there's only so much padding you can do with the original source material... but the movie either needed some more time in the editing room or another script pass prior to shooting. And the CGI ranges from fairly good to mediocre, but motion capture work by Bill Nighy is great (even if his giant doesn't even come close to Davy Jones' photorealistic job by ILM).

With all that said, I enjoyed it. It's nice that this film is self-contained, eliminating any plot threads left for a hypothetical sequel. (It's pretty certain to bomb, if not underperform altogether at the box office, so even with that in account it's a solid standalone film.) And John Ottman's score is mind-blowingly awesome. Loved it.

Haven't seen the movie, but bought the soundtrack. Its just more confirmation that Ottman is fast becoming the John Williams of our generation. Fantastic stuff.

I wish Ottman got more superhero gigs -- two middling Fantastic Four movies, one so-so Superman film and two X-Men films just aren't cut it. I would've loved to see what he could've done for Christopher Nolan's Batman films or even Man of Steel.

Jack the Giant Slayer is a whole new side of Ottman that he's hinted at in previous scores he's done, but never really let out until now. I didn't think he had it in him for a score this big, complex, and engaging.

I went in with super low expectations and it wasn't terrible some of the battle scenes were decent, regardless this film's probably going to be forgotten in about 2 weeks.

Cant believe we have to wait until the end of March to see this in UK. Not surprised people are enjoying it, Singer hasnt dont a bad film yet and in that regard he is quite a consistant director.

I've only seen the trailers, but the CGI sticks out like a sore thumb. Not something I'd expect from a big budget movie in 2013.

I think it's implied quite bluntly that it's a descendant of roderick, i mean the kid looks like a mini stanley tucci and is called "roddy" by the teacher.

I'm not sure if they expected a sequel to this or not? I almost feel like when they were making this they realized that they might be lucky to break even let alone warrant a sequel.

I think that scene was more like a zinger than an potential cliffhanger/plot thread for a sequel. I mean, the story is pretty much wrapped and finished -- how would a sequel build off that?

Just came back from seeing it with my girl. I enjoyed it, it's a fun little diversion. She was laughing at every solitary thing that happened, go figure.
