I agree with all of that. And I think the former thing you said in your last sentence is the thing that people, like myself are afraid this film is.

I think Bond's backstory and Blofeld is going to be the thing that really makes this stand apart from the previous films while it returns to the more classic elements, but hopefully those feel like they have their own identity too.
 
I think a part of it is that currently EON is has one foot in the 'Out of Touch' pool. Like they lucked out by bring in Craig, and getting Adele or even White/Keyes.

But then copying Bourne, the current somber tone, approving that Sam Smith song..it sometimes feels like what your parents interpretation of what's cool to the kids these days.

A good example on why they're out of touch is that EON turned down Mondo to create posters for Skyfall. For example, EON didn't like this:

Some reviews basically call Spectre a by the numbers Bond flick.

I'm not expecting too much innovation from this film. It seems like it'll be an Connery era Bond film mixed with Skyfall.
 
I've been spoiled, in detail, on this film to the point where, from what I've read, I ain't gonna like this one one bit.

whatculture.com's new article today confirmed my fears in a major, major way.

Watch the film yourself and assess with your own mind. So many reviews give contradictory opinions; best to see it for yourself.

I usually follow this advice but not this time. Not from what I've read. Plot wise and thematic wise, it's the same film as SKYFALL (almost beat for beat) but from what I can tell, with the Roger Moore era camp added.

Not my cup of tea.

SP is very different from SF and 95% of reviews have confirmed this. Many of the lesser reviews are knocking points off because SP isn't like SF. Like I said, I'd advise to see things for yourself.
 
I'm not expecting it to be as good as Skyfall, but I at least hope it's better than Quantum of Solace. Those have been my expectations for Spectre.
 
If it's not edited like someone gulped down a gallon of brown sugar before cutting it then it would be automatically superior.

From what I've read, yes, it's different in terms of tone but a number of reviews have stated that it is, beat for beat, the same plot and theme of SKYFALL.

Granted, Bond films tend to do this from time to time but not on back to back films.

Great review. He clearly had a great time with it. I for one am not afraid of Craig's 'spectacle' Bond movie with the henchman, super villain, gadget car and extra dose of humour. Bring it on. If they push the boundaries it's apparently 'not Bond', and if they present more of the loved tropes they're 'regressing and playing it safe'. Bond is different things to different people, and you're never going to please everyone. I can't see them throwing the baby out with the bathwater at all. The action - particularly the train fight, looks intense and as hard hitting as ever.
 
Curious but what order would you guys rank the Craig Bond films as of right now?
 
At the moment:

1. Skyfall
2. Casino Royale
3. Quantum of Solace

Casino Royale was a barnstorming debut, though. Top quality movie.
 
I have listened to the SPECTRE soundtrack. Just like Skyfall's soundtrack, I wasn't that impressed at first. But like all albums, once you get a 'feel' of the musical DNA, it's a real grower. After listening to the soundtrack once through you might think I'm being overly generous in my appraisal, but trust me, I'm not. Sure, there may not be a true standout track like 'Komodo Dragon' this time, but overall, I'd argue this is a better effort. Newman knows how to create great atmospheres, ala Skyfall, and the same rings true here. There's actually more ambient cues here. And while Skyfall cues re-appear, they merely serve as a bridge to the new content, and have been altered in creative new ways.
 
I for one haven't been as excited for any of craig films as i am Spectre.I don't care what
the final critical score is,but it looks to be high anyway,this one sounds like I will love it

as for how i would rank the craig films

1:Skyfall-before spectre the most Bond film of Craig's run
2:Casino Royale
3:Quantum of Solace

I am old school bond fan having been watching the films for 30 years.The first bond film i saw was a view to a kill at theatre back In 1985 at age 11.So hearing this is Craig's "Thunderball" excites me.
