You know, I actually really liked the FRWL video game that EA did, I had a blast when I played that game and Connery returning was a plus. I wish that EA could've done more, like one or two games with the different Bond actors actually voicing Bond. Oh well.
I enjoyed that game, but almost entirely for Connery as Bond and the '60s aesthetic. The gameplay felt like a downgrade from EON. I did hope that it was the start of them doing more third-person Bond games based on old films like Goldfinger and The Spy Who Loved Me. That way they could play with each different interpretation of Bond. Alas, it was not to be.
I played a bit of it over at a buddies house and thought it was pretty neat. It was cool returning to that game and it would be neat to see it done on the 360 and PS3 so it could benefit from the power those systems provide. However i still had a lot more fun with Blood Stone. I hate Bond in the first person, i want to see the character doing those kick ass things. If its another game like the goldeneye remake i wont be nearly as interested. If its a sequel to Blood Stone, or another game similar to that, im going to preorder the minute its announced.
In theory I prefer Bond as a third-person shooter. However, to date the best Bond game is hands down N64's GoldenEye 007, which is one of the best games ever made. However, nobody has seemed able to capturing lightning in a bottle like that since. The thing is Bloodstone just felt very generic and redundant. I liked the idea behind the game but I found it very much inferior to EON and FRWL from last generation.
The Wii Goldeneye blew me away because it proved that you can do a shooter with motion controls and have amazing results, and it also proved even if Activision was making a cash-in remake of the N64 game, the developers could still turn in something strong. It was the most fun I've had with a shooter's main campaign since MW2 (and I suually find shooters very borng...I couldn't even finish the single player campaign in MW2). It also has hands down the best multiplayer/online play of any Bond game made since the N64 classic in part because it is based on that game's style, but it came up with clever set-ups (like the GoldenEye minigame).
I don't want another remake of GoldenEye because the Wii one was good enough and seeing that game with better graphics would still feel meh because the Wii one looked good enough and the innovative motion controls made it stand out. On 360/PS3 it would be just another COD game. But they could expand the online play....still I'd rather just see a new concept than another cash grab on GE's name. I consider it luck that they developed a great game on that title. Another remake would probably end up like EA's crappy GoldenEye: Rogue Agent game from last generation.
Anyway, here is how I would rate Activision's efforts on Bond:
-QOS: 6/10
-Bloodstone: 6.5/10
-GE Wii: 8.5+/10
I prefer third-person, but it seems Activision is really struggling with it whereas EA was onto something, in my opinion.
