James Cameron's Sequel to "AVATAR" - Part 1

Another thing that was unique with both Titanic and Avatar was that they were extremely succesful everywhere. Something that even Avengers failed to achieve. In Japan for example Avengers made only a modest $45 million (it was less than what movies like Resident Evil and Les Miserables made there last year), while Avatar grossed over $180 million.

It made that much in Japan? I didn't know movies could make so much money there, then i find it weird how Dragon Ball Evolution made so little money, wasn't it released there?

...that doesn't mean these elements aren't filtered through a subjective lens. Only that the very fundamental building blocks of all of these elements rest on technique that can be objectively evaluated, and these Freidberg and Seltzer abominations fail at that base a level. But the simple truth is that some of the general public isn't apt to pick up on the naked awfulness of those films and films that are but little better (Transformers) and reward wretchedness with capital, enough to fund close to half a dozen of them.

People go to those movies to be entertained

James Cameron Taps Steven Charles Gould to Write Four Avatar Novels

Filmmaker James Cameron has tapped noted science fiction author Steven Charles Gould ("Jumper") to write four stand-alone novels based upon and expanding -- Camerons history-making 2009 film Avatar, and Cameron's stories for his three upcoming "Avatar" sequels.

Cameron commented, "Steven Gould is one of the shining lights in contemporary science fiction, and I've long admired the worlds and characters he's created in his books and stories. We're very fortunate to have Steven bring his formidable talents to the 'Avatar' universe. He is already working closely with me and the screenwriters to flesh out the expanding world of 'Avatar.'"

While Gould is best known for his 1992 novel "Jumper," which Twentieth Century Fox and New Regency turned into a motion picture in 2008, he has been acclaimed for his short fiction, including his Hugo Award-nominated short story "Rory," and the novelette "Peaches for Mad Molly." The latter was also on the shortlist for the Nebula Award. His other novels include "Wildside," the Jumper sequel "Reflex," "7th Sigma," and "Impulse." He is president of the Science Fiction Writers of America.

Kathy Franklin, Lightstorm Entertainment's President of Franchise Development, noted, "The novels are just one example of our commitment to our fans to extend the world of 'Avatar,' in this instance in partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products."

Cameron also is currently writing the screenplays for the three new "Avatar" pictures, along with screenwriters Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds), Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planets of the Apes) and Shane Salerno (Savages, Salinger).

The sequels will be filmed back-to-back with production beginning next year. The release of the first sequel will be in December 2016, with the second to follow in December 2017, and the third a year later.

My aunt's husband who works for Disney told me that he has seen some of their ideas for the theme park attraction. For one you ride on a gimbal and it simulates riding on one of the banshees, I can't remember if he told me if it was going to be in front of a screen or you wearing virtual reality glasses. He saw to scale life like statues of Jake and Netiri.

Back in the nineties while I looking around WED they were toying around with a gimbal ride with the virtual reality glasses for a the Rocketeer. It saddened me when that never happened, I guess because it wasn't popular enough and some ideas just never make it. It looks like they are trying to re use that idea with Avatar.

Innoventions was going to be a trip to the moon with Aliens and all, but instead it's a place for corporate sponsorship. Oh and another discarded idea an Untouchables 1930's like ride where you ride in the car while you shoot at other vehicles with the bullet holes simulated on the widows around you. California Adventure was to be WestCOT, but was abandoned because Eisner got cheap after the financial loss on Euro Disneyland, the cheap look of California Adventure. The elimination of Disney Sea theme park in Long Beach with the Queen Mary, went to the Japanese, their Disney Sea theme park.

I do find it funny that people were predicting that both Titanic and Avatar would be gigantic bombs that would kill Cameron's career, and then they became the highest grossing movies of all time. People need to stop doubting him. I liked the first movie, was the story familiar, of course, but most movies don't have original stories. It was fun and I bought the characters. I am hoping that now that he has the origins out of the way, Cameron will do something more unique this time.

I'll believe it when they officially announce it...Latino review isn't trustworthy

something happened in the last 2 years. noone has a 100% perfect track record with scoops. so if LR got somethign wrong in the last 2 years that doesnt change that they got a lot of things right. :yay:
i think its wrong writting that LR is not trustworthy. they are not wrong so many times. IMO

Avatar 2 comes out in 3 years. since they have not started filming a lot of rewrittes could happen. maybe Arnold is right now the villain. maybe Cameron will change his mind in januar 2014. :)

Regardless of whether or no LR is accurate or not, Schwarzenegger as the villain WOULD be really interesting. I could definitely see him as the successor to Steven Lang. Lang was really fun as the villain in the first movie, and I think that Arnold would be as well.

Ok, if there was one way Cameron could get me to give a flying f**k about this franchise, it's Arnold. God damn you, Jim.

I care about this franchise because since even before the first movie came out what i was looking forward to was the sequel, i knew the film was going to be unoriginal but that the sequel was probably going to be amazing, going from James Cameron's track record.

Arnold as the villain would definitely be different and make Avatar 2 more interesting. When was the last time he was a villain? Batman & Robin? Maybe he shouldn't be a villain afterall.

As cool as it may be to have Arnold on board, I'm disappointed that they're thinking about going with the "evil general" villain again. Come on, how awesome would it be to see Arnold play an evil alien? It wouldn't even have to be a Na'vi.

An evil alien would just seem weird, i just hope that James Cameron takes a different twist with this familiar direction

The world needs more Arnold evil puns
