James Cameron's Sequel to "AVATAR" - Part 1

Considering James Cameron's track record in making sequels i'm willing to belief this one will have a more original plot, in least the "liar gets caught" storyline isn't in this one, and by now it's won't be Pocahontas because Jack is already a part of the tribe.

Oh good lord.

I really enjoyed Quaritch in the first movie, but do they really have to bring him back from the dead for all three sequels?

I'd rather see a new character. Quaritch was fun but his character was played out.

But it sounds like he won't exactly be the same ol' Quaritch we all remember so fondly.

Also, just because it's been announced that he'll be featured in all 3 sequels doesn't equate to him being the main villain of each film. Maybe by the end of Avatar 2, Quaritch is "resurrected" as some kind of cyborg -- or even an Avatar/Na'vi himself (which would be a cool twist that'd level the playing field) -- and he'll return as the main threat in Avatar 3.

We know nothing about it all right now.

Yeah it'll probably the cliche former bad guy/enemy has a change of heart or circumstance and now has to to team up with the good guys...only to end up inherently less bad-ass in the process.

Nice to see Lang getting work anyway, he was great as General Pickett in "Gettysburg".

In other words he will turn into Barbossa, though i do think Barbossa is still as badass as in the first film, even with his newfound hobbies

This is cool, I enjoyed him in the first movie.

I am a bit skeptical on bringing him back as he died pretty definitively in the 1st movie, but Cameron has never let me down yet and he is my favourite director. Plus he directed two of the greatest sequels of all time.

its funny how we can name 3 villains that were brought back for 2 and 3 and didnt work as good as in the first movie.

the more i think about the more its obvious that every creative choice for the sequel is made to get as much people in the theater as possible. and this is before filming starts. god knows what else is in the movie.

why i am even writting this post? Avatar was the most expensive (people who worked on the movie) of all time. the sequel will also be expensive. so of course they will not take any creative risks.

You know what's sad? I can never remember Lang's character's name.

Quaritch. i think it was a good name. i think he was a memorable villain.

He was memorable, but also very simplistic, i think his purpose was done in the first film. Only villains i remember being back in the 2nd and 3rd films of their franchises are Barbossa, Smith, Darth Vader and Biff from Back to the Future.

Lang was the only actor who played his character with any conviction, in the first. Glad to know I'll be rooting for the villain again.

That's true...and he looked like a Final Fantasy character. (not my joke; i won't take credit)

Lang and his character was great in Avatar. That kind of villain that I truly hated with my guts.

I don't really see the point of him returning though.

Hahahaha, of all the people to steal jokes from! I actually enjoy Devin's articles on BAD. I'm not big on Evan Saathoff though, I think he tries to be funny but always feels forced.

Ah you caught it too!

I LOVE Evan's stuff though he's an acquired taste. The one with the most heart and passion is Hulk's articles.

I like FCH. Even if I don't necessarily agree with a point he would make, at least he'd make the best damn case possible to make me see his point of view.

To connect it to the topic somewhat, I can't wait for Devin's Avatar sequel reviews.

I thought that Zoe Saldana was very good in the first movie as well. Sigourney Weaver is ALWAYS good and Joe David Moore was pretty amusing.

And Magneto.

Actually it was when Zoe Saldana showed up that my enjoyment of Avatar nosedived.

Personally I think Worthington did a far better job than most people give him credit for.

Worthington was perfectly fine as Jake. He was also perfectly fine in Terminator Salvation.

I think the writing for his character and his motivations needed more polish. He was serviceable but that's not enough for a film for Avatar.

Writing the conflicted everyman is a lot harder than it is. Characters like Luke Skywalker and Marty McFly may seems an easy write, but they're not. It's that weird balance of nobility, humility, hope, and charm without coming off as boring and flat.
