Just when we thought we have a Paul Bettany... not quite.

But we do have a James D'Arcy playing a human Edwin Jarvis.

James D'Arcy Joins Marvel's Agent Carter.

he looks not too old but also not too young, just the right age for someone to be serviceable to Howard Stark but would still be physically capable to raise a young Tony when the time comes.

He did quite well and was a good foil to Atwell's Carter. I also very much like how he is keeping himself from coming off as an Alfred clone.

He and Atwell have great chemistry. I feel like they gave Jarvis a wife just to make sure we know that they won't hook up, lol.

i liked him. he had some good moments and lines in the first episode

No he's much more of a Benedict Cumberbatch clone. Seriously the resemblance and overlapping mannerisms are uncanny.

First saw him in Cloud Atlas and thought exactly this.

Well the only two things I've seen Cumberbatch in being that abysmal Star Trek film and as the dragon Smaug in the Hobbit films so I don't see the resemblance.

Yeah, the two of them should play brothers in something. Have you ever seen that short-lived series he was in called Those Who Kill? He D'Arcy played a Holmes-type in that.

Actually, he also played Holmes himself in a TV movie in the early 2000s.

I found it interesting that both Jarvis and J.A.R.V.I.S had major roles in Master and Commander, one of my favorite movies.

You should really check out BBC's Sherlock. Cumberbatch is amazing in the series as the famous detective.

My mom thought the same thing, apparently.

I absolutely adored him, thought he was great in the part and an awesome addition character wise. Loved him giving Howard instructions on how to make a drink over the phone. Figures Howard wouldn't even be able to make his own drink.

He's definitely a welcomed edition to the series. I agree he channeling Benedict Cumberbatch but with a different twist.

Totally looked like Cumberbatch in the show i was thinking it the entire time glad i am not the only one

I have to say D'Aarcy killed it I can TOTALLY see him older and taking care of young Tony and Tony basing the J.A.R.V.I.S. A.I. off of him.

i don't think he looks like cumberbatch at all

but i like him in the role and how he and Atwell play off each other

yeah I agree with you CC 1000% they had awesome chemistry for sure.

I've mentioned in the main thread that I'm getting an Avengers vibe from the chemistry and interplay between Carter and Jarvis. I mean the British 60s Avengers TV series with Steed and Mrs Peel.

Jarvis is somewhat similar to Steed - a real upper class gentleman, and Peggy is similar to Emma Peel - another upper class lady who is skilled in fighting and does more of the action than her partner. Also their banter together and the way they address each other so formally ie Mr Jarvis and Miss Carter is reminiscent of that show.

Also, I don't really get a Cumberbatch vibe about him. Maybe more of a Ralph Fiennes vibe, who incidentally played Steed in the Avengers movie from 1998.

I agree, more of a Ralph Fiennes than Cumberbatch. Maybe I've seen too much Sherlock but Cumberbatch is Cumberbatch.

Do you think we'll ever see Mrs Jarvis or will she be a running joke like Niles's wife, Maris in Frasier as a character we always hear talked about but never see?

Hopefully, she'll be more like Mrs Columbo. I wouldn't like to think of wonderful Jarvis stuck with someone like Maris Frasier Crane [fixed]. :oldrazz:

But yes, I do think she'll continue off screen at least for the first season.
