How so? What rumors have we about Mr. Gunn's behavior? And I'm not talking about the manufactured ones we've seen on this thread.

Yeah that's about as "ironic" as Roseanne and Gunn's tweet activity is comparable.

Re: not very.

The irony of implying someone is a pedophile only to have pedo-oriented rape jokes getting him fired. So, what about the manufactured ones/rumors elsewhere like twitter? You can search his name.

So you're saying James Gunn should just let Jared Leto prey on underage girls (if that rumor is indeed true, of course) because he made some inappropriate jokes? Your morality is faulty here.

Nope. This is the vicious cycle of rumors. If you require more clarification on the irony, I guess I'll oblige.

I do find it ironic that Gunn, who has used social media for things like calling out Leto got bite by the same concept. Like I totally believe the Leto stuff, but Gunn was also being reckless.

Brave new world, indeed. He's not allowed a second chance today... six years since he first apologized (albeit, as you are so anxious to point out for not every horrible thing). When is the second chance deemed by you then, perchance? It's been six years. Should he not be allowed to make another movie for another six? Do you not see how ridiculous this is to blacklist him and vaguely set the goal post as "someday" when it's already been the better part of a decade and you're saying, "Not good enough?"

You're darn right I'm pointing out the semantics in his apology. I mean have you ever read it? It speaks SPECIFICALLY to his portrayal of the LGBT community in a production of his. Not a peep about his child-related comments. Apologizing for one saying "I should have chosen my words more carefully" doth not atone for the heinous tweets about child rape.

He had every opportunity to come clean about everything and denounce all of his questionable Twitter behavior. He did not and it inevitably reared its ugly head again.

Yep, can not trust anyone at their word or their actions, because they might have ulterior motives for their action. No second chances. Blacklist him for life and throw away the key. :o

You say it as if you can trust him at his word because you know him personally or something.

Remind me again what he's done to distance himself and atone from his despicable shock jockey nature.

Meanwhile, firing James Gunn has emboldened bad faith, dishonest alt-righters to continue to weaponize social media and group-think by going after Sarah Jeong, who was just hired by the New York Times for the editorial board.

She made some lighthearted jokes about white people on Twitter over the years, so the same alt-right crybabies (including Fox News) who targeted Gunn are going after her and using these Tweets to demand the NYT fire her. The NYT, actually understanding what integrity is, of course has already dismissed this out of hand.

But it's an interesting story. Disney empowered them and they'll continue doing this. Only Woke Twitter and Tumblr is coming to Jeong's defense because her jokes were about "white people" and "old white men," so clearly they're jokes. But given the logic of some on this board, the NYT should fire her, because "we don't know if these jokes reflect the real Sarah Jeong or not." Just take away employment from her for a few years until she's truly proven she can have a second shot. :whatever:

He was still making those kinds of jokes this year. The situation is studio does not condone the way this person acts on social media after having his/her dirty laundry aired out publically and thus he/she was fired.

Link, please?

Um... that's not a joke. He is genuinely asking, with a heavily implied disgust, if there is actual proof Jared Leto is going after 18-year-old girls on the internet. Which is actually the opposite of being a creeper...

But thank you for this, it is an example about how half-truths, gossip, and literal fake news is disseminated.

Quick question, in my post a few up the right is targeting Sarah Jeong as a racist (or at least a hater of white people) because she made jokes about it on Twitter. How do you know she really doesn't hate white people? By your logic, she should be fired. Just to be sure.

But yes, please hold that pitchfork high for James Gunn.

The problem is reinstating him would create another backlash from the people that want him fired (and it’s not just right wingers, plenty of left leaning people with the zero tolerance mindset want him gone as well) and it will force Disney to admit they made a mistake in front of everyone. It’s peobably best to let bygones be bygones and move on

You mean a backlash from idiots? You should never pander to those people who aren't prepared to forgive and forget.

It did seem that Feige was the one who fired Gunn, and the final decision was approved by Horn and Iger, before being announced to press (if Horn and Iger just approved the decision and not actually made the decision, I can’t imagine anyone other than Feige proposing to fire him).

Maybe they want to protect Feige’s fan favorite image and let Horn, i.e. the evil corporate suit, announce the firing. At least this way Feige doesn’t loose love and support from any MCU fans. And, I don’t know, Feige DOES seem to be the type who might not ask his (Marvel studio’s) media team to look into the Tweeter feed from 10 years ago of the directors he hires, but if the situation calls for he can make quick decision and refuse to take any risk.

Anyway I just want the director to be announced so we can all get over this.

I'm not 'getting over' anything. I will continue to talk of how James Gunn should be reinstated even after a new director is announced.

Overreaction is a key component in this outrage culture.
Neither Gunn nor Disney should have to do what they did over jokes.

Is this post satire? Lol

That doesn't matter. People still think of James Gunn as the mind behind the Guardians film adaptations.

Totally agree of those 99% who've never heard of him everyone of the 1% thinks gunn is a great guy. Apart from the 30% that heard about the tweets. Out of them 30% thought he was an idiot.

But i like gunn.

No. I think the alt-right is disgustingly petulant and disingenuous. But by caving with them and siding with them, we've opened the floodgates for more of this nonsense.

So, while obviously Sarah Jeong should and will continue to work at the New York Times, I have an honest question though for those who write "Well we don't know what's in James Gunn's heart" or thereabouts. Do they believe Jeong really "hates white people" and should be fired just in case? Because that's the tone around here regarding Gunn for some.

It's not isolated to the alt-right.

This has been going on long before James Gunn and it happens with the left side of the political spectrum as well.

No one lost their jobs over it but let's not forget the time Evans and Renner were bullied into apologizing for a joke about Black Widow.

Height of stupidity.

Social media has created an outrage culture that loses its proverbial crud over everything. So why is it acceptable to make those kind of jokes one way if it's not acceptable the other way?

Before social media nobody really had the opportunity to express an opinion. You read something in the paper and had a little argument in the pub about it. Usually forgotten when one of you went for a pee. Obviously if it was serious enough a union would get involved and try and gain support. That was about it though.

These days we argue about anything. Even things we care little about (cause were bored) we pick a side on a debate about a bloke who made a couple of sick jokes on the internet and state our position. Then we argue.

Now for 2 million years humanity would have an argument then have a sleep, wake up the next day and not really remember what they were arguing about. (Don't get me wrong we had wars and stuff but were vague on why).

These days we wake up and read what you wrote last night. You might not agree with it and maybe even suprised about the spelling and think why did i write that. But then you have 20 replys from tossers slagging you off. So now you are back in the game, defensive and even more on the side that you never cared about in the first place. Cause you're bored and not losing this battle.

I'm not a fan of Mike Cernovich, the alt right or political groups in general but I was more referring to how you dismissed her nasty comments as light-hearted jokes. She admitted she made these comments in response to the racism she received herself from different commenters on her social media. She claims they were satire but knowing that they come from a place of anger I don't believe her. She shouldn't get a pass for fighting fire with fire.

Another factor in this is that the Times fired a woman in that same position within 7 hours for making similarly hateful comments.

Pretty sure social media is being weaponized by both political parties for a variety of personal gains to take down someone. How about social media just go away all together?

Are all the people defending James Gunn going to come to the defense of Cody Gabrandt now?

He's coming under fire for some embarrassing tweets he wrote when he was like 21 years old before he was in the UFC. Most of them were made six years ago, plus or minus.

What about the actors who wrote that letter about the social media mob mentality? The media mob is now going after Cody Garbrandt. Is this a teachable moment or not?

Based on your description, I would side with him. But I need to learn more before I can say for sure.
