Good for WB. Now all they need to do is get Edgar Wright to direct the Atom
Today’s news convinced me more than ever before that GotG3 is dead. What a shame. Disney really blew it.
I wouldn't say it's dead...they have said they will use Gunn's script(cause they own it) & Waititi is the favorite to direct it. So....
I'll be really impressed if Gunn and WB can produce a SS film that will distance itself from that mess from a couple of years ago.
Given WB's history with announcing projects that don't get made, and losing directors, I'll wait to see pictures of Gunn behind the cameras before I actually believe its happening .
That said , if WB does actually have their stuff together this time and lets Gunn make the film he wants to make , I definitely think Gunn could bring his own unique take to the SS.
Glad for him. Understood why disney had to get rid but happy he's back in the game.
Confirmed: James Gunn Writing Suicide Squad 2 After Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Firing
el oh el
I smell another Joss Whedon situation incoming.
It makes sense creatively since SS tried mimicking Guardians with the whole “criminals become family” while set to a pop soundtrack vibe. Too bad Joker has already been ruined.
Gunn mocked Letoker on social media so I don't think that character will get that much screentime
Oh I saw that. I 've also seen Ben Affleck directing the Batman , Flashpoint, The Batgirl movie, etc. I'm not saying the news is fake. I'm saying given WB's history of fumbling the ball, I'll wait until Gunn is literally filming the film before I'm convinced its happening.
Frankly, anyone following WBs development of DC projects over the past several years shouldn't find my statement controversial.
He did much more than that, he accused Leto of being a creep. Oh, the irony.
I suspect Leto, like Cavill and Affleck are pretty much gone anyway as far as WB is concerned, so having Gunn there won't be an issue from their POV.
I really enjoyed having Gunn in the MCU, but I won't watch SS. I have never liked the thought of that group. No iteration of them has been good for me.
Good for WB to hire Gunn for SS2, because the first one was a mess. But while I like James Gunn, I think the difference between GOTG and GOTG Vol. 2 is that in the first movie he had a co-writer (Nicole Perlman), who probably helped strengthening the script, but in Vol. 2 when Gunn is the sole writer, the movie definitely lacks certain focus and hurt some scenes. I wonder which GOTG movie will SS2 emulate with Gunn being the writer and the director.
Gunn had commented that Guardians 3 was supposed to usher in a whole new Marvel. Wherever A4 leaves off Guardians was supposed to pick up and push forward. so that tells you how vital it was. Makes one think since the production start date is now the time the move was supposed to be out what movie in the MCU will now take over those story elements that were supposed to be so important. Those things that Guardians 3 was supposed to do, probably still need to happen, so they'll likely shift into another movie, question is which one? --- or do u think they went ahead and used A4 to do those things. If the ended really was being shot over the reshoot period I'm sure the took into account that Guardians wouldn't be right afterwards so it's possibly those changes tie into to that. It's all pure conjecture of course, but that's the fun of it.
Feige on Gunn:
"His influence was Guardians. It was Guardians. It was his input on Guardians and the Avengers films, as you've seen in Infinity War, and on the Guardians 3 script, which we’re still using. So you'll see that influence. I think online, sort of the notion of ‘architect across multiple cosmic things’ was slightly blown out of proportion."
I don’t know. Sounds like he’s trying to walk back how big a role Gunn was going to have.
I think there's a chance Eternals were to be introduced in Vol3
I don't get the logic that they can use his script, but he can't be allowed to direct the film.
If he directed the film he'd have to do the promotion of it. Interviews all around the world. The press would be talking about him, the film and the tweets. You would have organisations like mothers of america calling for a boycott and staging demonstrations and disney's name would be spoken in the same sentence as paedophilia. Which would possibly damage their brand. Using his script wont bring any of that as he had been fired.
I mean, so what? It's not like he faked a hate crime assault. Ronda Rousey had to answer a bunch of awkward questions about writing about how she beat up an ex-boyfriend in her book, which people accused her of domestic assault and battery. Disney didn't fire Johnny Depp from the fifth pirates movie. He wasn't fired from many other studio projects.
His name is still going to be on the movie. He's still credited. All that could still happen with that going on.
I mean he's still going to work on other projects and hypothetically do promotion. It's going to happen one way or another.
Disney felt the negative publicity might damage there brand. You might not agree but that is how they felt. Whatever argument you make will not change the fact.
I have nothing against gunn and am happy he has moved on and will go and see his films. It's a shame he is not doing guardians 3 but i'm happy they will use his script.
I think you pretty much nailed it. It's easier to just say "Hey, written by James Gunn" then for him to do the press tour for it and have his name all around the project by directing.
I just hope we find out who is going to direct instead soon
