Guardians of the Galaxy James gunn fired!!! - Part 1

I have a hunch Bautista will go to the mattresses if they try to force him to do it without Gunn. The rest will be there though.

But yes, I standby the Guardians films are among the only Marvel Studios movies with any sense of heart or depth of feeling (the other being Black Panther), and I think they're the most heartfelt and earnest, which is all the more rewarding given their flippant and smug demeanor. Each of them is so deeply hurt and flawed, it makes them feel more real and heroic than the generally pretty perfect Avengers roster (at least post-Phase 1). Another way to put that, they were the only ones I was sad to see die at the end of Infinity War, even though I know they are all coming back.

EDIT: Watch this ending and don't tell me that it is not unique for the MCU... or that it is fitting of what kind of has happened to the franchise in a bittersweetly serendipitous way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FULRdn9khmM&frags=pl,wn

It's a great scene but its rare that that kind of thing is done well in CBMs in general, not just the MCU. Both Guardians films had a lot of heart, and it was all the more remarkable given the style of humour used throughout.

Dave Bautista tweeted Sunday that he will appear in the third film because he is "obligated" to do so, but added that it's "pretty nauseating to work for someone who'd empower a smear campaign by fascists cyber-Nazis."

"It's also pretty nauseating to work for someone who’d empower a smear campaign by fascists #cybernazis," Bautista wrote. "That’s just how I feel."

....DId I miss something where James was guaranteed 3 films? And going after your big boss that will own about 50% of the box office is not a smart idea.

This is amazing considering he seemed perfectly fine being employed by Vincent Kennedy McMahon. :lmao:

Dave Bautista's net worth is estimated at $13 million. So what if he doesn't pull in what Robert Downey Jr for a movie role? I bet he has more assets than everybody he knew except the Hulk Hogan's of pro wrestling combined. Meaning that he has F myself money and can take a political or moral stance anytime he wishes and his family will be fine.

So what if he isn't able to buy have estate in another part of the world. As it is if he never works again he could be on the wrestling and comic con tours as a guest if he needs the applause of an audience

Honestly, good on Bautista for taking a stand on this. He isn’t a Saldana or Cooper or Vin Diesel, or even Pratt who all have a much larger safety net in Hollywood.
Bautista is an ex wrestler who has appeared in a half dozen movies, who could quickly lose any standing he has in Hollywood because of his outspoken view on this situation.
Agree or disagree with, I think it’s admirable he’s not just keeping quiet on this.

Also... the more I hear about all this, the more I’m thinking that GOTG3 might not actually happen at all.

Yes, Gunn was guaranteed three films. He just completed the script for Volume 3 in June or so.

When Edgar Wright left Ant-Man, they ended up using a lot of his script and ideas even though they didn't admit to it. This is similar to Nicole Perlman writing the treatment and original script for Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 1. She did credit for it but Gunn is the one known for writing it.

So, the question is...
Do they use Gunn's script like they did with Wright's script or completely toss it?

On one hand, Disney has a roller coaster opening at Epcot based on GOTG but it doesn't open until 2021 so that's plenty of time to rework Vol 3 or cancel it for something different involving some of the original Guardians paired up with other characters...the original idea for post Vol 3.

I've always heard good things about Bautista but this confirms it even more.

While I wouldn't call him a cybernazi, Batista has plenty of skeletons in his own closet. I read his book.

Maybe Bautista is trying to get fired. Can't imagine Disney would be happy with that comment.

I can't wait for the opening GotG vol. 3 where he is killed by a flying turd in the wind. :o

From the man who cheated on his wife battling cancer and would kill the pushes of women who wouldn't sleep with him, comes the upmost moral stand. :o

It is if you don't think only about money.

Hold up what does that one part mean "kill the pushes of women..."

I love how people are saying Bautista is being dumb because he is throwing away money by poking the mouse. Because just making money is apparently all that is important in life, and you should just not make a stand against anyone you feel is doing something wrong if they throw money at you. Is money all that matters to people anymore? I find the idea that we should just shut our mouths for money to be a scary mentality.

I haven't read Bautista's book and I am not familiar with the accusations you're stating (though I don't doubt it...wrestling is that kind of business), but just doing something wrong in your life doesn't mean you don't have a moral code of some kind. Everyone does.

Yeah, calling Disney nauseating is pretty much a death knell unless they kinda feel they were truly in the wrong.

GotG made his career according to Dave. Leaving WWE was extremely scary for him and a huge risk. Gunn as they say in wrestling really "Put him over".

Good job Dave for being loyal.

I personally didn't want Gunn fired but I definitely didn't want his style being I charge of the cosmic marvel especially with FF/X-MEN about to be involved.

Replace Drax with Nova or Moondragon.

And replace anyone else who wants out. Bring on female Quasar & The Russian dog etc.

I believe Marvel has the Midas touch so let's see

Almost certainly, Gunn will get paid for his completed screenplay draft - even if it’s never used. But if he was subsequently “fired with cause” (e.g., bringing disrepute to the employer), there may be no legal obligation to honor his directing payday.

These are excellent examples of the character assassination methods used by Mike Cernovich, his alt-right followers and his liberal lapdogs. Ignore the actual issue, which is Bautista bravely putting his acting career on the line by attacking a BO powerhouse. Instead, attack his credibility by dredging up his past failings as a human being. I mean, if Dave erred in other aspects of his life he has no right to express any moral outrage regarding Disney's disgraceful behavior. Well done.

Agreed. It seems that if you have ever done a wrong in your life, then you have no right to stand up to the potential wrong of others.

Though I don't endorse any of what Batista was accused of doing, obviously.

A push in wrestling is when a wrestler moves up the card. They get more screentime, storylines, high-profile matches, and wins. To kill a push is effectively the same as a demotion. Essentially Bautista has a history of targeting women backstage and if they didn't sleep with him he would go to management (since he was a big name star) and get them demoted.

Wrestling is a very shady business, no doubt. I was not aware Batista was accused of doing stuff like that, but I can't say I am surprised. The politics game in wrestling can be pretty messed up and petty.

Batistuta is an idiot. Directors can be replaced at any time for any reason. Sure, the circumstances of Gunn's removal may not be ideal, but if Disney/Marvel had simply decided they felt Gunn had gotten stale and they wanted a new Guardians director, Batistuta and all the cast would probably have accepted it.

Did you see the Avengers cast say they didn't sign up to do those movies without Joss Whedon, when Whedon was dropped after Age Of Ultron. That cast were team players and understood the franchise was much bigger than loyalty to any one director.

For Disney/Marvel, Guardians are a replaceable franchise, so Batistuta would do well not to bite the hand that feeds him. With all the Marvel Fox properties now back in the Disney fold (X-men, Fantastic Four), Disney could literally stop making Guardians movies completely and not lose any revenue. Fantastic Four can be the new cornerstone of the MCU cosmic adventures. And if you want direct Guardian knock-offs, the Starjammers are ready made replacements.

Batistuta will be back in WWE or signing autographs at conventions in Drax make-up to make a living if he keeps this up.

Whedon was never fired from Avengers 3/4, though. He left on his own accord. So the situations are not equal. This would be more like if the Russos had been fired during pre-production and replaced.

Whedon was not going to be asked back for Avengers 3, because Age Of Ultron was considered a let down in the standard Marvel wanted/expected. Fans did not love that film, even if the box office was good.

Disney/Marvel are not shy about doing that. It's the.key difference between MCU and DCEU, who kept sticking with Zack Snyder after disappointing results. If results are considered disappointing from a creative or box office level, they ask directors to step aside for the next one. I'm pretty sure Jon Favreau wanted to direct Iron Man 3, but they felt new blood was needed after Iron Man 2.
