This is good news, I think Gunn will suit the project well.

I imagine Joss and he together are a bit like...Finn and Jake from Adventure Time.

Gunn has a "twisted" sense of humor, perfect for Guardians. He should do what he did in "Super" and have the lead role be a comedian. Pete is known to put his wise cracks before his heroics, so why not? With Gunn's twisted sense of humor and his like for Heavy Metal comics, he's gonna be great! I can't wait to see what he does with the team!

Just because the character is a smart-ass and all that, doesn't mean a comedian needs to get the role. If the marterial is smart and funny (which between Gunn, and Whedon advising it clearly will be) it doesn't matter who plays Quill or delivers the lines. Marvel will get the best guy for the job, regardless of background.

When people see actors they know on the big screen, it's their background that 1st pops into their head. Whenever I see Deadpool or Star-Lord in a comic, 1st thing that pops into my mind is how hilarious they are. Also, idk if you've read Guardians or not but they're a band of misfits. A comedian actor as Pete (lead role) would add to how much they're misfits.

They have a point that these jokes aren't funny and are in poor taste, but on no planet does that mean he should get kicked off the movie. All it means is I probably wouldn't enjoy hanging out with Gunn in real life (he's always seemed like an a-hole to me)...doesn't mean I can't enjoy his movies (which I do).
