Probably Gunn but my wish would be for either Brad Bird or Ron Howard.

That said, I'd be ok with Gunn.
Mainly because he knows his Superman film HAS to be a home run..And he will work extra hard to see that it is.

Imagine the pressure he will put on himself to make sure it's a hit with not only the fans, but the GA also.
Their first film will be as good as it can possibly be, ie, visually, acting, and in script.

I expect top notch actors to be announced, probably some that will make us go "WOAH!

The CG will be top notch as well.
They'll be no "superstach" controversy like scenarios in his first film.

Ron is too tame I feel. We need the old Spielbergs, Ron Howards and Zemeckis of today.

I honestly can't think of anyone that has that wonder and awe those goes had back in the day.

I won’t object to Gunn directing. I just dont think he’d be able to balance his duties as co chairman and writer/director.

I think he would put 110% into it, he knows he must.
I'm sure he'll surround himself with other talent that can oversee things while he's busy with Superman.
Safran for one already knows the plan.

My wish would be for a blend of S:TM And MoS.
Some humor yes, but also very serious when it needs/has to be.
GOTG was like that.

Maybe. I just don't think he's going to trust it with anyone else.

The Russo Bros. coming in. :sus

I think Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (the writers who largely built the MCU Captain America) could potentially be good writers for Superman. Gunn worked with them on Infinity War (wrote scenes featuring the Guardians in it) so he's certainly familiar with their work.

Edgar Wright. Just throwing it out. Has English humor... So it's actually funny * sorry Americans you just shout too much*

What about Bryce Dallas Howard? Though I do hope she gets to direct a Star Wars film in the future. She has a great love for the franchise, and has already directed. I think she could do a good job with Superman. But I agree, that Gunn will most likely direct himself.

I googled it and I didn't see them call the character boring. They just said he was a hard character to translate to the big screen because of how powerful he is.

It will almost certainly be James Gunn directing the film. The same turn of events happened a few years ago with The Suicide Squad, where Gunn was initially only hired to write a script for the film and left the door open on whether he'd direct the film himself or not until he was confirmed to be helming the movie a few months later.

Plus, Gunn also has a rather speedy track record for the development of his films. He was hired to write TSS in October 2018. He was already beginning the process of casting for the film by late February/early March 2019 and started filming the movie in September that same year. Not to mention the development cycle for Peacemaker Season 1 being announced/greenlit in August 2020 and the first three episodes all airing just under a year and a half later.

With that speediness and the fact that Gunn and Safran are currently only contracted to be the Co-CEOs of DC Studios for 4 years in mind, I think Gunn will want to make a point to hit the ground running and launch the new DCU on a strong note to get momentum going ahead of his and Safran's renegotiating for continuing their positions in late 2026.

If I had to guess, Gunn's take on Superman will probably draw a lot from Grant Morrison's Action Comics run in the New 52 and probably also American Alien.

They've said it a few times. I was at a live q&a in DC where they said he was too powerful to be interesting. It was plain as day by their tone and dismissive attitude they don't have a high opinion of the character at all.
