James Newton Howard will score GREEN LANTERN

well there could always jsut be temp music they are using for now, or no music at all if they are only showing a scene or two, or they state its not finished edited/no music and all that.

They didn't do that with "Iron Man" nor "Iron Man 2". I think the fans are qoing to expect more than just a film clip with no music in the bacground.

i know i was just saying things that could happen, who knows.

I was just looking at info for Martin Campbell's previous films and discovered a couple interesting things I didn't know before....

I still think that highest chances are Campbell is working with James Horner on the music for Green Lantern, but there are two other things that got me just slightly questioning this a little bit:

On Campbell's latest feature, "Edge of Darkness", he worked with acclaimed composer Howard Shore for the music. Shore composed the music for each film in the "Lord of the Rings Trilogy", as well as films like "A History of Violence" (which was also based on a comic), and the critically acclaimed "The Departed".

And we all know that "Vertical Limit" was not Campbell's best or most succesful piece of work, however I just found that the score for that film was done by James Newton Howard. Howard is, as I'm sure you know, famous for the composing the duo scores for both "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight". He also composed for many other high profile action/fantasy films, like "I Am Legend" (also based on a comic book), "King Kong", "Peter Pan" (2005 Live Action), as well as the upcoming films "The Last Airbender" and "Salt".

Like I said, my bet is still on James Horner, but with this info that I just found out... I wouldn't be suprised if it was announced Shore or Newton Howard were the composer for GL. Especially Newtown Howard, with BB and TDK under his belt.

Is Horner just a hunch or are you basing it on the fact that he worked with Campbell on Zorro?

^ I'm basing it on four different facts:

1. He worked with Campbell on both Zorro films and (besides the Bond films), "The Mask of Zorro" score was the most acclaimed of all of Campbell's films to date.

2. Horner is still fresh in everyone's mind because of his amazing score for "Avatar" which was, of course, a majorly successful Science-Fiction 3D Action film... which is exactly what GL is. The score was major in sales, and acclaimed by both critics and audiences. Horner was even nominated for on Oscar (yet again) for his composition on the film.

3. Although Campbell has worked with quite a few incredible composers, Horner is the most critically acclaimed out all of them and the only to win an Academy Award.

4. With his scores for films like "Avatar", "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan", "Aliens", "Cocoon", "Deep Impact", and "Bicentennial Man", Horner has more than enough composition experience with Science-Fiction films that are both critically acclaimed and adored by fans alike.

It has to be either Shore, Horner or Giacchino who winds up with the gig no?

We'll see soon enough....

^ Dude it went to the top 25 on Itunes, was nominated for both an Oscar, and a Golden Globe award. i'm definitely not alone on thinking it was amazing.

Just went to wikipedia and they have James Newton Howard listed as composer for GL. Normally I don't take anything that Wiki has to heart, and I'm not necessarily even doing it now...

But he's listed in the official informaton box to the right of the page, not in any of the areas where anyone can edit it. Plus I wouldn't be suprised if Howard really is doing it. Interesting.

Please let this be true. I don't want Horner anywhere ner this movie.

How the hell did it double post all the way down here? NOT MY FAULT!

I think Giacchino is the best of the three, but I have my heart set on him scoring the next Superman. Thats not to say he couldn't score both, but you run certain risks there.

What about Hans Zimmer?

hopefully it will be revealed soon.

Hey, unlike over with Superman, I have full faith in whats going on with this project. They have made all the right moves in my opinion. The script was written by good writers who used correct source material, Martin Campbell is one of the best script directors out there, I love Ryan Reynolds and I think he was destined to play and be successful as big time superhero, you have your studio eye candy in Blake Lively and as far as studio eye candy goes she can deliver a good performance, and the rest of the cast is great. Strong, Peter S., Morrison, Robbins, this is great.

I can't wait. This is the 2nd thing WB has ever done right with DC, other than the Nolan Batman films.

When are composers normally announced? Thor has finished production yet has had no confirmation on a composer We all know it'll be Patrick Doyle but still.

oh totally fade, i was just saying it will be nice to have official word soon on who is the composer. Will it be someone campbell has worked with before, will it be someone new. But yea i dont expect to see anything on composer side to probably late summer/early fall. Since i doubt composer will be starting things to that time frame.

Agreed!

The big move IMO, was getting a solid experienced director like Campbell involved and not letting the inexperienced Berlanti be the director of an important big time movie like this.

Composers are usually brought on movies during post-production. And in some cases, composers are involved from the very beginning or during filming so they can get a "feel" for the film and come up with material that the director can track in during editing.

Either a composer will be announced for GL at the end of the year or early next year.

i could see it being announced probably within next 3-4 months.
