Jason Bourne

I thought [BLACKOUT]Nicky's demise would upset me but it didn't.[/BLACKOUT] If you go back and watch the original trilogy, she really doesn't do much anyway. She's just...kind of there in the background. She really didn't mean anything to Bourne.

Excellent points. The film's story just doesn't work and you don't even have to dig deep to see why.

How more films are they going to make about Jason Bourne running away from the CIA?

It looks like it is going to do well.
I am glad about that.

The movie seems to be doing well at the box office. :) It should bank about 61 mill domestic.

Even though I enjoyed it, I dont think we need another film. I'd prefer to end on this note.

I didn't come out of this hating the movie or anything, but the indifference I felt is almost as damning. I rewatched the trilogy this week and they're just as good now as they were a decade ago.

After all the clamoring and years awaiting the return of Greengrass/Damon, for them to come up with just this is disheartening. They were the team I'd least expect to be so lazy, especially with this much anticipation and legacy they've left.

On the plus side I did like Alicia's character. Accent struggles aside, she kept me curious all the way to the end. I still have to ponder over whether I like what they did with her though.

Vikander had probably the worst American accent Ive heard in recent memory

From the trailer it sounded like she was trying one.

I thought she wasnt, then I thought she was, then after I thought she wasnt, but in the hours since I think she was

I think people way overestimate foreign actors accent abilities. Some are good at it and some are bad. They aren't this mythical group that can just nail some version of one kind of American accent just because they studied acting at this or that place. The ones who are good at it are just talked about more is all. Vikander is a talented actress and was just fine in the film but until I hear her say otherwise I will believe that she was trying to sound American and she failed pretty badly.

If it was her first try at an american accent, I think that I will give her a pass.

I give them a pass when they're not speaking their first language. The Irish/Australian/Scottish/English people though have no excuse! :oldrazz:

Sam Worthington, I'm looking at you. Though ironically Chris Pratt can do an impeccable british accent according to Graham Norton.

Yeah, Sam Worthington's is useless. As is Clive Owen's.

For me, the absolute worst accent was Kevin Costner in Prince of Thieves.

I wasn't sure what Vikander was doing with her accent at all in this.

The spirit of the previous Damon-Greengrass tandem of Bourne films still remains - there is still the signature Greengrass shaky-cam, fast cuts and frenetic action scenes - but thr film doesn't offer anything new narratively speaking (I would like to call this trend in which the new wave of "requel" films suffers from as "The Force Awakens" syndrome). It also suffers from the cliche "it's a small world after all" circle of characters
(i mean does everybody in this film has to be connected?)
and
"women in refrigerators" trope which was already done in the second film of the series
. Maybe if you don't have any baggage of the knowledge of narrative tropes and cliches you'll find this film enjoyable. As for me, well I somehow still enjoyed the film. It's still is a Jason Bourne film after all.

to be fair to Sam Worthington, Meryl Streep's attempt at an Australian accent is far worse than his attempts at an american one

Keanu Reeves accent in Dracula. 'Nuff said.

As for this movie, I think I'll wait for Blu-Ray.
