I have to say...from a narrative standpoint and what I'd want to see from a Ghostbusters 3, I'm iffy on the teens aspect but I am keeping an open mind and will wait to see what they do with it.

On the other hand, I think from a socio-political angle..since let's face it, ignoring the 2016 film and reinstating the original continuity was going to cause amount of backlash (as Jones' tweet already shows), casting mixed gender kids as leads could actually help mitigate some of that. I think it'll be a bit harder for people to go after a film with young actors as leads without making themselves look kind of bad in the process. And I think it's important to reinforce the point that, for the vast majority of people it wasn't the fact that people weren't on board with female ghostbusters. It was that rebooting the property felt unnecessary when the soft reboot option was staring them right in the face. It could've went a long way in pleasing a lot more people if we got an extension of that original universe (and the film was actually good). Unfortunately, the ugliest voices in that conversation became the loudest and the whole thing is just a mess.

I sincerely hope the new film can manage to bring people together. It really sucks that it's easy to spin a "people hated the women version so they're bringing back the MEN to clean this up" narrative from this whole thing, and that's all a lot of people will see, but it's more nuanced than that. The film industry can be brutal, you can't just expect a studio to lose money on a $140 million dollar movie and hand out sequels, nor can you expect them to NOT make one last attempt to revive the property and utilize it's built-in nostalgia factor. That's just the way it is. You can be cynical about it, but this could've easily happened just the same way if the 2016 reboot was all-male and was equally poorly received. I just wish everything didn't have to turn into a political firestorm. Getting mad about this so prematurely is actually giving those rotten people exactly what they want. I'm sure it's tough for Leslie considering all the abhorrent stuff she had to deal with.

Like I always say, she and the cast deserved a better film. It's unfortunate that it didn't work out. But hey, if this new movie revives the Ghostbusters brand, who knows what may be possible down the line?

Sigh... oh boy.

Don't tweet when you are drunk.

Jones is over-reacting to get attention....

I'm intrigued by this.... saw a report that the original director was onboard as an adviser... i think this will be good

and the comedy was abysmal, outside of Kate.
I thought it had a few funny moments and I don't hate it like some critics did. It fell short of what it could have been and that was not their fault. They had to work with the material they were given.

I enjoyed the 2016 film and thought the backlash over it being all females was ludicrous but it did take place in its own universe so Leslie shouldn't be mad that they are excluding the 2016 cast.

i found it a bad movie due to the writing. bad plot, bad jokes, bad CGI... and you're right, despite the outright lie in the first trailer, this was set in a different universe, so Jones' complaints are wasted and makes her look bad IMHO

Maybe Leslie Jones gets to do a cameo as a completely different character than what she played in the 2016 movie?

If I had actually liked the 2016 movie than maybe I can understand where she's coming from, but IMO it just wasn't a good movie and it wasn't very successful at the boxoffice either, so it only makes sense why they would reboot it again. She's got nothing to be mad about.

the only one that should get a cameo is Kate....

I’m still waiting on a trailer before I get too excited, but I think the teen angle can work. I mean IT had kids as it’s cast and it was a fantastic film.

Ugh that tweet is a mistake. I can only imagine the amount of crap she's endured so it's understandably super personal to her, but this really isn't. Leslie Jones was in a mediocre film that wasn't very popular. That's really all there is to it.

Ah, part of me understands why Jones is upset.
The level of crap she got thrown in her face and the movie in general, that is probably something that she never will forget.
Fragile Males burning with anger at an all woman ghostbuster movie and letting their hatred run free against Jones in the front, really was messed up and i dont think she can shake this off.

But then you need to be fair too, the movie wasnt really good.
The marketing was built like it just wants to promote some Gender war or political statement.
The movie itself was enjoyable but weak with incredible bad writing and jokes despite super talented comedians.

I get that she is extremely upset, but she could have found calmer words to express her anger.
But if you are so angry that you need to vent then so be it, that way she might be able to get past the whole experience.

This is the latest tweet from Leslie, her agent has probably told her she needs to do damage control after sounding like a complete moron before.

"It’s very sad that this is response I get. When the point is if they make this new one with all men and it does well which it will. It might feel that “boys are better”it makes my heart drop. Maybe I could have use different words but I’m allowed to have my feelings just like them"

You know why you haven't heard this sort of negativity about the news of a new movie from McCarthy & Wiig? Because they are more professional (McCarthy like Jones was victim to some really sick people who targeted her for online abuse for her weight instead of race). I genuinely feel very sorry for the racist abuse Leslie received over this movie nobody deserves that, but at the same time she can't use that as reasoning to make these ridiculous statements.

'IT' had to have kids in the cast, the characters start out in the book as children. But it wasn't a children's movie aimed at children. It was a horror movie aimed at teenagers and adults.

The 1984 Ghostbusters was not a children's movie. It was aimed at the same adult audience as Stripes and Bill Murray's other movies, with the sex jokes and vulgarity. I agree with others here that the new movie will be going for the Stranger Things crowd, so the tone will definitely be skewed more towards the pre-teen audience. The maturity level of the humor won't be anything like the 1984 movie.

Someone should tell leslie maybe most didnt like her version because it just sucked and to blame once again the hate because it was all women showcases how Clueless she is.
I also hated the bright colors in the 2016 and them fist fighting ghost and cracking bad liners in the finale was enough for me. The only good part was chris hemsworth and even he was wasted mostly.

That's exactly it. The film wont feature "only boys". Also adding the political stuff just adds to the stupidity.

Also, none of the original cast members had an opinion this strong, or Said it in this childish way when they rebooted in 2016. Cursing and screaming .

Problem with the 2016 movie is it stopped being a movie and became more about gender politics and Lesley still seems to be making it sound like that was what it was all about.

Her bitterness comes more from the idea that ghostbusters 2016 was meant to be about girl power and going back to the guys means the girl power failed.

But Ghostbusters 2016 should never have been about gender politics and its probably what ended up hurting it more at the box office.

To be fair, with how hard they are swinging toward Ghostbusters 3 and nostalgia, yeah, it is kind of insulting. I mean, the kids aren't the main focus of what they are announcing. Old cast, old props, old music, hell, event he son of the original director. I mean, the kids are a footnote in any article I have seen about the announcement.

What if they don't make the new one with all men?
