Erm, Star Wars??? It continues the story - they can all cameo, have bit parts, it pay homage to the past and with decent writers, move forward.
Indianna Jones is a poor example. He is the titular character, we have had a trilogy of his events. Decades later, a new film is released, introducing his son that doesn't sport a whip, hat, go hunting for artifacts - where is the attraction?
Had they, introduced us to an older indie, where he is telling a story of his younger days and we see an actor give a good portrayal then, you can see the attraction - a reboot.
This is basically saying, ok, forget everything you know about Ghostbusters, we're rebooting, but with females. Oh, but everything looks similar - to remind you it's ghostbusters.
Is it to hard to imagine that right now, the original team are living their lives in NYC, some have moved on, had families, new jobs, but something happens and they come together for another adventure?
