Ghostbusters 3 - Part 2

Planet of the Apes has one of the most culturally remembered endings of all time. Even Burton tried to re-create it with the 2001 movie and failed. I'd say that makes it on par with the pop culture of the 70-80s.

If Rodenberry had followed that idea, we'd never have gotten TNG. It still was about a group of Federation explorers on a star vessel. New uniforms but still had tricorders, teleporters, and phasers. It didn't need Kirk or Spock kids showing up in the first episode. Fans could just believe whatever they wanted about what happened to the original crew.

It just updated the concepts and moved forward with a new crew.

That's what I think Feig is doing, except for being in a new world. The original crew kept on Ghostbusting in their world until they stopped or whatever we'd like to believe.

I could have gone the rest of my life without knowing Indiana Jones got old and had an out-of-wedlock son.:woot:

Bones was in the pilot episode of Star Trek Tng. So yes it did need to let the audience know that it was tied to the original series. Even the new Star Trek film had to have Spock and let the audience know that it was a change in timeline but still linked to the original.

If they had one of the girls be Venkman and Dana's daughter and they just had a 5 minute cameo. Then that would be enough to link this with the original. They could then carry on and do what ever they wanted and most people would be happy. The fact that they won't or that the original cast are not interested is worrying.

We loved the original cast and characters. For them to come along and say they never existed is playing with our emotions. It works for some characters like Sherlock and Dracula because they have been around for over 100 years and have had numerous makeovers. This is different and is not an adaption of a book.

If I remember correctly, he was referred to as Admiral (under heavy make-up) and never actually referenced the original Enterprise except in a coy(no pun intended) "she will bring you home/good name"

And Feig said he would love to have the original crew in the movie, but not in their original roles. So yeah, they could still "pass the torch" just not as the original crew, but as a nod to fans.

That's not too bad then. But I'd still love to see the old crew get back together.

There's no way POTA marketed it's characters the way Ghostbusters did in the 80s or had a similar impact to media and merch. It just didn't have that option in the 60s.

Adjusted for inflation Ghostbusters is in the top 30 highest grossing films of all time. And top 100 unadjusted. Not an easy feat by any means.

I never followed ST that much but isn't that franchise still connected overall? I also don't think it went 30 years without adding other members and being as confined a world as Ghostbusters.

Can't speak for everyone but I'll still pay for another Indiana Jones with Harrison Ford. I'll pay to see him in another Star Wars too.

The clue is in the title. Next Generation. Yes it is linked just many years after the original was set.

Gotcha thanks.

Im terrible when it comes to Star Trek continuity haha.

Star Trek: TNG was always in the ST universe.

From what I'm hearing, the new GB movie will be a complete reboot and will have no connection to the 1984 movie apart from the name. They'll be starting over as if the 1984 movie didn't happen and this movie is the first one.

And that is why fans of the original (mostly) are upset about.
It's just "Ghostbusters" in name only which is a real shame. :(

I just don't see why we need to have the old guys show up for five minutes to validate the new Ghostbusters. I really couldn't care less. The old crew would be incomplete and Bill Murray won't touch this movie anyway.

I'm not asking them to bring back the originals for the sake of validating the new movie. I'm asking that they at least acknowledge the two films that came before as opposed to doing a brand new movie from scratch.

Which is what it sounds like they're going to do.

Yup. Going from what Feig said they are going full on reboot. So the other Ghostbusters never existed in the new film. That's really the only issue that needs to be fixed imo.

Let him do whatever he wants with the new characters but at least respect the only characters this franchise has known.

But why? Why must they do that? Why can't they just start over, if they are using a new crew anyway?

Then don't call it Ghostbusters. Simple.

If your ditching all the Ghostbusters, mythology and world that's been established then what's the point besides a cash grab on the title? There's no way that people are gonna walk into a theatre for a movie called Ghostbusters and not think they will see at least some connection to the other films and characters. It's still too well known of a property.

Are people really saying the most important thing about the ghostbusters is that they were all male?

Hmm, Internet I am disappoint once again

Except tng did have connections to the original, hell bones was in the first episode. And connections ran through every series. Every Star Trek wasn't a complete reboot with a new federation, damn even the official reboot had a link back

That's what's pissing me a few others off. The complete lack of connection, not that it's all women. I'm not gonna deny there are *******s crying over that fact but we just need to ignore them.

No connection harms the film, they don't even have to be related to any of the characters. The idw comic had it perfect it's all a franchise in different city's. Hell that comic at the moment has at least 8-10 ghostbusters male and female and even rival company's. But all connected

Have the film set in a different city, the two main girls can't keep jobs so one gets the idea to buy the ghostbusters franchise and go from there. There you have your connection, you have already explained the equipment and tech and your obligatory cameo is Ray in a real cheesy tutorial/pitch video for the tech

But nah it has to be completely separate for no valid reason other than the director says so to sound creative

What? Where are people saying that? The problem is fans don't want the old movies, characters and history ditched cause there is no reason to. If the original Ghostbusters were all Female then fans would be saying the same.

So since this is a complete reboot, they can't really call this Ghostbusters 3, right? So are they just going to call it Ghostbusters?

I wonder if some of this isn't some sort of sneaky payback aimed at Bill Murray for never agreeing to do another sequel. "So you don't want to be in a sequel, Bill? Well, now we're going to do a Ghostbusters movie which is going to basically act as if the one you made never existed. How do you like THAT?"

Do more than a few movies of Ghostbusters teams that have no connection to each other. Then do a big crossover movie and bring in the originals with multiple dimensions and timelines with multiple Ghostbusters teams. That's the only thing I'm hoping for right now.

They need to just kill this this. Kill it, then poor gasoline on it and drop a match to it.

I was all for a Ghostbusters 3 if what was left of the original cast would return. possibly for a passing of the torch to a new team possibly or just a part 3 with the old guys taking care of business one last time.

but this..... Bridesmaids with proton packs.... blasphemy.... Kill it now

I hope they can answer this question...unlicensed proton packs in post 9/11:o

the reboot is unnecessary. they could set it elsewhere starring all women, call it GB3, and you would have very few people if any complaining about it.
