Hey Cinemaman, what is your avatar? It looks like Supes and Zod, or Supes and Neclear man.

It's neither. That, I believe is one of Lex's henchmen,
disposing off Superman after he is stabbed by Lex with the kryptonite knife.

Lex's henchman is beating Superman :D

How about Jason turns out to be Mxyzptlk and the whole thing is a joke on Supes. Supes still learns the same lesson but succeeding writers don't have the problem of what to do with the kid and the complicated entanglements associated with it.

I personally think he looks alot like Marsden and Bosworth....

I dont see any similarties with Routh at all...
Keep in mind, these are all unrelated actors, the child could have been cast to resemble Marsden as a red herring.

In the book:

Clark notices that Richard looks a lot like him but without the glasses and timid attitude

I thought Jason took after his mother more than [whoever] the father is.

From strictly a dramatic point I can see that Singer might of wanted to have Jason the son of Richard originally but due to studio misgivings was unable to make it stick so they cast doubt on who the father is to quite the WB but also allowing give Singer some flexibility for future sequels which could go in either direction.

I think Superman is great but I am not so focused on the Lois and Clark love story as something that has to be. I see that you can throughout your live love more than one person, it may be different but no less special, which is the case I think is between her love for Superman and Richard. While there are elements of both Richard and Superman that mirror each other the difference is that Lois actually knows Richard, his faults and fears while to me her love for Superman was based as much on the idea that it is on the man itself since really she has no idea who he is. So I have no problem of having Lois having been in love with Richard and having a child that is not Superman's. Jason as Superman's child brings up questions like how can two different species mate successfully, will Jason have powers and it would shift the narrative towards Jason with would be difficult and could easily fall into the cliche trap of having him have powers, which will dilute the realism that the move should try to maintain.

I'd rather Jason be Lois/Richard's son, but if he dies, he's gone, and we can move on.

Personally, I'd rather we all go back in time, and have the story written without the child. Children have a tendancy to drag a serious film down.

Unfortunately, that's not an option, so I would choose the Lois/Richard's son angle, but I'd feel better if he was completely out of the picture, so if he dies maybe that would be for the best. Hmmm...

personally, I hope he is the son of Superman and Lois. Because if he is not, then it is about Superman breaking up a family to get into Lois's pants and not doing the right thing. This is why Singer's vision is screwy. Unless the kid dies or gets kicked into the Phantom Zone, then Superman will always have this child attached to him. If Superman is a great hero, then he should not break up families and that ruins a Superman Lois relationship in any sequels.
SInger directed himself into a corner...

i think that fact that superman is back has already created a rift between lois and richard. the kid has to be superman's. doesn't he lift a piano and hit a guy with it? unless richard is kryptonian i doubt it's his kid. the kid angle just makes it a really long episode of maury povich.

the kid wont lift the piano dude. thats just bogus rumour.

oh THANK GOD!!!! i love you for telling me that steelsheen!

no he wont lift the piano he is just gonna lift the whole boat LOL!!:)

Richard White is Jason's father, but Lois Lane is NOT the mother....

I've been hoping for that since last month, but alas, it was not to be. Read the novel. You'll get what I'm trying to say.

well its kinda hard to get that done since Lois remembers giving birth (for this story anyway).

Considering that Jason is barely mentioned in the mini, non-spoiler I would say it's pretty obvious what's going on with him. Plus, the book also have a lot of hints.

At this point, the biggest twist would be for it not to be Superman's son.
