Iron Man Jeff Bridges is Obadiah Stane

anyone else notice we never actually see him die in this movie, I mean he got hit by the same thing tony did and tony running so low on power still survived, I mean sure he fell into flames, but I could see him surviving with some burn scars on his face to come back for the third one.

OMG, how awesome was Bridges in this? He was soo good. He was slimy, yet there was something you kinda hated to like about this guy. He was a great character to play off. The scene of him and Tony talking near the reactor after the press conference was really good stuff.

I agree, Bridges's preformance was really good.
So I'm trying to get this straight as to what exactly Stane's problem was with Tony.

So he helped create Stark Industries with Tony's father...after he died, he took over the company until Tony was 21...by then, Stane had to hand over a company that HE built over 20 years... This doesn't sit well with him but he keeps it in beacuse Tony is a genius.

He and Tony are partners and work well together for many years despite a growing disdain by Stane for the man running what he believes should be HIS company.

So finally, he decides to put a hit on Tony so he can take over the company.

On some level, I'm sure Stane did look upon Tony as a pseudo son and did have some legitamate feelings towards him but at the same time, I also think there is a hint of Stane being jealous over Tony's intelligence and ingenuity.

That scene inpaticular with his engineers when he just loses it and goes, "Tony Stark built this in a CAVE! Out of a bunch of scraps!" stood out for me in the theatre and made me think that deep down...Tony is everything Stane wishes he could be. That office scene with Pepper further reinforced that feeling "Tony is very lucky to have a woman like you" ...

Am I close
?
You summed it up quite well.:o

No we never actually do see him die but should but i presume that he is after the SHIELD agent's comments. If he did turn out to be alive that would be a interesting twist somewhere down the line in Iron Man 2/3.

BTW does anyone know what that device was which Stane used on Stark and Raza? It was almost like they were touched by Typhoid Mary.:wow:

Stane gave a little background when he used it on Tony (I think). The device caused temporary paralysis for 15 minutes. It was a prototype intended for use by law enforcement.

I am hoping he did survive, just for the sake of it be revealed later on that he was the one pulling the strings to everything going wrong in tonys life that lead to his alcoholism problems, like they did in the comics. Not to mention I would really like to see his suicide done on film, the way it happened in the comics.

I would like to see him slip away once using his contact in the middle east, going into hiding founding a new company that challenges starks company. Then the second time around after stark beats him there is no way for him to escape from shield they are closing in and he uses his own repulsor on his head.

okay, once more with feeling;

TONYYY STARKKKK BUILT THIS IN A CAVEEEEEE!!!! WITH A BUNCH OF SCRAPSSSSS!!!! :cmad:

heh heh that is now one of my favorite movie lines of all time :woot:

it was a a good line. nice acting. you could feel hes anger.

I think it's safe to say that Obadiah Stane is a crispy critter. I mean come on, he had a few thousand volts course through his body because he was standing right in front of the plasma arc when Tony rolled out of the way. Add to that falling into the reactor itself and exploding in a fiery inferno. If we ever see Iron Monger again, it most likely will be Obadiah's son Ezekiel inside a new and improved version of the armor.

I think the sons revenge thing shouldn't happen as it already happened with the Osbornes in the Spider-man movies.

Indeed. Plus the son was not established in the first movie so introducing him after the fact will feel cheap and cheesy. Contrived is the word.

i don't like the idea of a son being the villian that wasnt previously alluded to or shown in the first. i think obadiah was like a father figure to tony.

First & foremost, I think it's pretty common knowledge that you DO NOT improve technology by making it bigger. Nowadays everybody wants maximim features in minimal space. Better functions in a smaller package. The Iron Monger suit may look more threatening than the Iron Man armor, but it was less maneuverable, less sophisticated & an easy target.
Secondly, he stole the plans & prototype that he himself admitted, "Tony Stark was able to build in a cave! From a pile of scraps!!!!!!!!!!" Wouldn't you think the guy who invented the tech could easily find a way to overcome a knockoff of his own original design? Especially if he'd spent every free moment improving on it afterwards? If Tony hadn't been running off a diminished power supply, he'd have wiped the floor with Stane & been able to go for coffee afterwards.

I think Iron Monger is designed that way because (1) Stane wants to emphasize on weaponry and size rather than mobility and fitness, like Mark 3 (2) Stane's group of scientists/weapon designers could not improve upon the Mark 1 like Stark could because they are just not that smart; they basically used Mark 1's design as framework for their Iron Monger, that's why these two suits look similar.

Iron Monger is still a formidable opponent, despite any flaws in the design of the suit.

Why didn't he just steal the Iron Man suit when Tony was laying there dying?

Plus, if the villain got everything right, the hero couldn´t defeat him, could he?

Seemed to have been working to me. He was whipping Starks ass pretty convincingly until Stark pulled out the freeze maneuver. Quite Frankly we can't really know because Stark was operating off a bum battery. Had they both had the updated batteries, we probably would have seen who had the better armor. As it stands, Iron Monger certainly looked like the superior model save for the frosting problem.

I thought Iron Monger had Iron Man outmatched outside of agility/mobility, although Tony's suit was low on energy.

Yeah, and that icing problem.

I don't think anyone can just steal the suit if they want to. Stark probably has the only access code to command Jarvis to operate the machinery that allows him to get suit up. I'm sure it's something Stark already thought about and dealt with.

Stane having a bigger suit to improve technology isn't bad,if you think about it can work in his favor if he wanted to add more hardware and/or software!!

Imo,Stane seemed like a pretty good bad guy in the movie.

I agree with this post.

Stane wasn't the best villain I've ever seen on screen, no, but he was an excellent match-up for the start of Stark's career.

I expect the next villain, whomever that is, to be harder to beat.

Like the Mandarin?

Other than Rhodes and Stark, the rest of the cast was written like they were semi-******ed down syndrome victims
