BvS Jesse Eisenberg IS Lex Luthor - Part 10

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say he'll 'steal the show' but I do believe he will surprise a lot of the people who have already written him off as a joke.

Once he shows us his ruthless/murderous side it will silence a lot of the skeptics..."The devil will do it!" moment in the trailer has become my favorite clip of him thus far because he seems so intense and obsessed in it and that's Lex Luthor for me...driven to insanity by his own obsession with beating Superman.

But then their are the people who just don't like Eisenberg (which is their right) so nothing he does will probably satisfy them. I like Eisenberg as an actor and that's why I'm excited to see his take on Lex, I like how Jesse seems to have embraced making the part his own, and whether you love or hate it people most definitely won't confuse Jesse's interpretation with anyone elses.

If he absolutely nails his dual personality perfectly then critics are going to give this film some good points.

Everyone has to bring their a game in BvS to get some positive reviews with the critics and RT.

It has to be because they are not alike, heck I don't even think Hackman and Spacey are alike. I also think don't think either Hackman's or Spacey's Lex are campy either but that's a discussion for another time.

Well, let's say Spacey, in that one moment, is the hammiest Lex, and Jesse is the campiest, based on his scene with Clark and Lex

Honest to God, he's like every fruity male hairdresser or clothes designer in that scene!

You always have a chance to steal the show just by being the most flamboyant and over the top performance. I can take some hammy scenes if they're in small doses. I just hope most of his scenes aren't that way. It's always risky basing something on trailers but I'm not liking Jesse's Lex right now. It seemed particularly out of place during the Clark-Bruce exchange. We'll see how it flows during the actual film.

Not one Star Wars or Marvel trailer has had many divided opinions as much as BvS...and it's down to the casting choices of Ben and Jesse. Gotta love it

That's because everyone knows what to expect from those movies, more or less, and the trailers deliver exactly what was expected of them. MOS was divisive, and therefore, the sequel is under more scrutiny. And most people seem to be on board with Affleck for now (if for only very shallow reasons). Eisenberg is definitely a point of contention.

I would agree if every line he said was in the manner of his party scene... But they clearly aren't.

I think Eisenberg's hipster clothing also seems evocative of Hackman's proudly 1970's wardrobe at the moment, and since he's got the full head of hair at the moment, that might be working to seem like a visual homage to Hackman as opposed to, y'know, a hipster (bad taste) with bad hair (looks almost like a wig.)

And here's two points in favor of the energetic eccentric we see in the trailer: first, it clearly seems like a childish and annoying persona that may lead you away from Alex's true character, and two, unlike Spacey and Hackman's Lexs, this Lex is actually a mad scientist and evil businessman. Hackman played a ruthless criminal mastermind with delusions of grandeur. Spacey played a slick operator who nonetheless was dependent on his mooching skills to be a threat.

Eisenberg's a full on billionaire in a revolutionary segment of the economy and put time mad scientist. He's running a new age company with all the sorts of weird stuff we see billionaires doing now, and he's going full Frankenstein in a lab coat. The former requires a certain amount of avant-garde arrogance, while the latter is frankly disappointing without a little mania.

Let's hope this is true.

Again, from the way he looks like to the way he behaves publicly, it does look like an intention was to make him seem as quirky and harmless little man, the reason why he can play everyone around like a fiddle (Bruce, Clark, Senator Finch) and people never putting the two and two together, as they underestimate him completely. I really don't see any other explanation for this approach Snyder and Eisenberg have taken with the character.

We did get a glimpse of his arrogance and messiah complex and hopefully in his more private moments, and especially as his plans don't go as well as expected and he becomes more frustrated, we'll see more serious and darker side of him.

Also, we should keep in mind that it was never really fleshed out why does he want to bring Superman down in the trailers so far, and if Zod in MOS is anything to go by, DC won't go for a cliche "evil because he is evil, no explanation needed" guy as a villain, so those scenes when he shows where he stands and explains the reason why an all-powerful alien must be removed from our society should depict the character behind the facade, a deadly serious Lex Luthor we're more used to seeing.

That's a popular opinion of Lex in the trailer.According to the Hype, Lex without a baritone voice and bald head can't be anything other than 'camp'. It's either Lex is done 'correctly' according to some mouth breather's limited exposure to source material or he's camp - there is apparently no alternative.
