BvS Jesse Eisenberg IS Lex Luthor - Part 2

Honestly, I am totally on board with this. We are talking about a young, ambitious Oscar nominated actor, but who doesn't exactly fit the physical mold of the typical depiction of the character... Sound familiar? On top of that, his nomination was for playing a smug, arrogant, sociopathic billionaire.

What I can't believe is how people around here accept the casting of some no name model with an acting resume the length of a pinky finger as Wonder Woman, but freak out over Affleck and this... Doe not compute to me.

I agree with the second part. You're right.

Since I think the choice is really interesting I made this :

Based on this photo :

I made him a tad more serious and add some references to Gotham (creating a contrast with Metropolis) and of course one of Superman's nickname.

I didn't make him bald because honestly I don't care at all about that (the only thing that will matter is Eisenberg's performance).

They seem to be going for a juxtaposition of a muscular looking Superman and a slimmer Lex Luthor. Maybe like this:

So why can't they cast an actor who not only has the intelligence, but also has that physical intimidation factor as Lex Luthor? I still don't think Eisenberg is the best possible choice to play Lex, and there are much better candidates out there.

He wasn't someone I was thinking about, but I'm curious to where it goes before jumping to conclusions with a judgment call.

Lex has never been about physical intimidation for Superman. Lex's threat has always been his resources, intelligence, and ruthlessness. Seems like they're attempting to highlight that even more.

I'm definitely WAY more skeptical about Gadot as Wonder Woman than Eisenberg as Lex Luthor.

Yea I don't see how anybody can say he doesn't have the right look at least. It's just those mannerisms he often displays and that boyish voice. Literally the only things I'm worried about with this casting. Based solely on looks though, he's perfect.

exactly. Like Rosenbaum and Tom Welling Lex and Clark. I'm interested in seeing where they're going to go with this Lex Luthor.

You should not assume that I am not aware of this aspect. I am fully aware.
But in my case, I have a hard time believe that a man like luthor that excels in every other area wouldn't set a goal for himself to be as physically fit as he could.
Luthors mind is and always has been the dangerous thing about him, I just don't like the idea of him being so physically weak, it's inconsistent with his way of thinking. Lex in Smallville was actually very fit, and John shea's character went after superman with an axe. Those were not weak in any way. They stood face to face with their Superman on many occasions.

Well we are basing on how Eisenberg looks on a regular basis. We have no idea if he'll go to the gym or not. I hope he does, particularly since it'll help him look good in a suit--though a good tailor could take care of that.

But even if he were to put on muscle, he'll still have a slim build due to his frame, just like Rhea and Rosenbaum. So the size difference between Supes and Lex will still be there.

I think fans tend to over simplify the Lex vs Superman as Brain vs Brawn. I mean its certainly an aspect of the dynamic , just as the whole jealously thing is a part of it as well. For me, what's made the recent Rosenbum and Shea versions most compelling was the fact that they were dynamic , charismatic, complex, and charming personalities, and not just smart guys. If anything , that aspect has always been kinda secondary because filmmakers know that no one really gives a hoot if the guy is smarter than a living god who could break you with his pinky.

Now, if Eisenberg is just told to do his social network act then that's not gonna make it for me at least. I don't wanna see Mark Zuckerberg with a bald head. I wanna see Eisenberg surprise us and do something he hasn't done before and really become someone other than Jessie Eisenberg , much in the same way Ledger made you forget about 10 things I hate about you and A Knights Tale. Frankly, I want Affleck to do the same thing. I think Eisenberg has the potential to do it, my concern might that Snyder and the writers would direct him or write him as basically the same role from Social Network.

I agree with that. If anything, taking some of what he did in Social Network, raising it several notches with the other layers of Lex's personality would be good. But I definitely don't want him to just rehash what he did in Social Network.

This has got to be the most unlikely, surprising piece of casting in Hollywood history. More so than Ledger or Affleck or Keaton, or literally any piece of casting EVER. I'm serious. I'm drawing a blank. This news trumps it all a thousand fold.

I don't think they're going for the simple brains and brawns relationship. If we're to believe that this Lex Luthor is a self-made billionaire, and invested in Metropolis with the goal of advancing humanity, then we could be seeing a neat juxtaposition between a god who was brought to advance Earth vs. a human who's trying to accomplish the same thing.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think Snyder gave him the job of playing an evil genius and told him to put on muscle, hehe. No, I think this version of Lex is purely brains. And all in all, that's what he's always been, I guess I just have a a certain image of the man that has the guts to go up against the Man Of Steel, and that ain't no 23 year old looking, 5'8 or how ever tall he was and with that voice. Nothing personal what so ever against Eisenberg. I can't stress that enough, the guy IS a good actor and I'm sure a decent guy in private, but this is one of the most iconic bad guys in comic book history, if not THE most iconic, some pros and cons are inevitable when such casting occurs.

People bring up Rosenbaum to justify this casting decision, but I just can't see Eisenberg even pulling off this Lex.

Want to see someone who REALLY didn't take this news well? To give you some perspective that the reactions of people here ain't so bad?

Look up @Ryan_Wagner on Twitter. Can't link to it because he says some really terrible things. But his anger is hilarious.

I don't mean physical intimidation as in someone who has the Gold's Gym physique, but someone who has a presence that seems threatening and can back it up with his mind and intelligence. Kevin Spacey was perfect as Lex in SR, but sadly his characterization left a lot to be desired. And Bryan Cranston has the total package as well: intelligence with intimidation.

How many movies have you watched? About 5? This is definitely not the most surprising casting in history.

I think people are bringing up Rosenbaum when talking about size and physical intimidation, neither of which Rosenbaum against his Superman counterpart.

Holy hell...the amount of spam that Snyder's got. :funny:

Rosenbaum is quite possibly the best Lex we've ever had. My God he was amazing. He was able to juggle the nice guy rutine, (which he actually was in the beginning, but not so much during the end obviously) with the sense that there was always something darker hidden just below the surface, charming, interesting, yet kept you at the edge of your seat when he had to be threatening. Just a fantastic Lex. I cannot say enough great things about him. That's a proper way to do a Lex luthor. He would have made an exceptional big screen Lex.

Best twitter ever!!

If the interwebs were around in 1988, just about every nerd would have hated the idea of Keaton as Batman.
