Jews told to "register" in the Ukraine by pro-Russian Militants.

I just can't understand why Putin is instigating this whole cluster****. There is no scenario where Russia comes out on top of a European or worldwide conflict. He might think he can just nuke everyone, but that's a no win scenario. The U.S. will nuke Russia if it's the very last thing it ever does and then the whole world wide lose due to nuclear winter so frankly anyone pushing to destabilise the world is a fool. Putin if you could just craw in a hole and die the world would appreciate it.

He won't. He's stated multiple times over his 'career' of ruling Russia that he'd love to see the USSR come back and to get all the countries back under it.

And I'd like to have a tropical island to retire to but...

Well, nuclear weapons usually help in realizing ones dreams.

Well it's the threat that's implied, duh! He's not like Shaw from X-Men FC.

Possibly, but to be honest, the Ukrainian side of the conflict hasn't exactly displayed such a level of effectiveness that would indicate they would be capable of that.
You're basing this on what? News reports and a censored, biased demonstration of what is happening?

I don't mean to keep bringing it up, but in the example I brought up at the end of page two, even Carter and the CIA didn't think that the protesters were "capable" of that. They thought, if it WASN'T the Shah's orders, that the Generals acted without his orders, ordering the Imperial Guard to open fire.

Somebody's playing psychological warfare.

My guess is the nationalist from the Ukraine trying to stir up anti-Russian sentiment.

Russians are fighting a propaganda war and they want to be seen as the good guys. They would be idiots to put out these leaflets.

That's what I figured. Someone is thinking that due to it looking a lot like Hitler part 2 in a number of ways, obviously not the camps or anything but other ways, that they'd put a little gas on the fire heating up.

Nukes ensure your country won't be invaded.

Countries without nukes are free for the taking.

I am basing my opinion on the same information you are basing your opinion on. If you have so little respect for my ability to form a thought, feel free to put me on your ignore list, or shut the **** up. The fact that you seem to take any opportunity to tie any political discussion back to your pet issue is your own business, and I couldn't care less.

 I'm not saying it is or it isn't. Relax, and learn to engage in proper discourse like a human being. The point I'm bringing up is that even the President of the United States and the CIA were wrong to underestimate the circumstances that they were presented with.

It's not a "pet issue" - it's history. You don't need to get so sensitive. We're all here to have a civil discussion.

My point is that if this leads to war the only way he "wins" is if he stays within Russia's current borders or uses nukes. So in no scenario does he gain anything. He just stands to lose if he pushes this situation to a war with Europe and the U.S. Putin might as well give it up and be happy with what he has. .

I know that and you know that but he just doesn't care.

Honestly, I think a lot of this (Putin's actions) is just him trying to keep the people districted from the real problems facing Russia.

Maybe it's time for Putin to have an "accident" while taking a shower. :hehe:

I always figured Putin would be like an evil (or eviler) version of Lord Vetinari from the Discworld books; he's already thought of every way he can be assassinated, and has a booby trap in place to counter it.

He probably has his heart linked to his nukes in case he dies like in Dredd.

Wasn't that the plot of Spawn as well? Geez, if you're going to rip off a movie, at least rip off a good one.

I liked Dredd and Spawn so quiet down. I was trying to make sure everyone got it. You think Moose has seen Spawn?

Moose is lucky.

The one good thing about Spawn is you can show it to non-comic people and tell them it's a mirror universe episode of The West Wing.

I like that.

I actually enjoy the Spawn movie though. It's really not that bad.

Yep. I think Russia today is a bit like France under Napoleon III- nostalgic for purported past glories.

A bit late but the obvious has been revealed: It's a hoax.
But on Friday the chairman of the Donetsk People's Republic and the city's chief rabbi both stated that the flyer was a fake meant to discredit the so-called republic or the Jewish community.

The hoax has nonetheless contributed to the tense, divisive atmosphere in eastern Ukraine, where pro-Ukrainian and pro-Russian protests have ended in violence in recent weeks. A vicious information war has raged around the military operation Kiev is staging to try to take back buildings from pro-Russian demonstrators and militia, with Ukrainian media vilifying the protestors as "terrorists" and Russian media regularly calling the Kiev government a "fascist junta".

"I think it's someone trying to use the Jewish community in Donetsk as an instrument in this conflict. That's why we're upset," the chief rabbi, Pinchas Vishedski, told journalists on Friday.

According to Jewish community members at Donetsk's only synagogue, which was founded 110 years ago, three masked men walked up to worshippers standing on the street after a Passover service on Wednesday and tried to distribute the flyers. They wore no insignia and quickly left when asked to identify themselves.

When seen by the Guardian on Friday, several aspects of the document immediately called into question its legitimacy. Pushilin is officially the chairman of the temporary government and has avoided being labelled its governor or leader. Also, the Donetsk People's Republic stamp shown there is poor quality and a different size than normally used, and the order is not signed.
