Here's the thing that irritates me. Whether it's Whedon or the studio that thinks cutting the film to make it shorter will make it more family-friendly, I disapprove.
But also...cutting the film to make it shorter for the sake of being shorter, thus to sell more tickets, then I strongly disapprove.
If they Warner Bros thinks we were complaining because we wanted a shorter film, then they were dead wrong. If they really think that's the case, then they are stupid. Batman v Superman could have reached a billion dollars. It didn't make a billion because the film was a disappointment. But it still made a great deal of box office money simply because it was the first time a Batman and Superman movie had been made. So it was guaranteed to make big bucks, do doubt.
Justice League can too, if the film ends up being good, then people will want to see it again. Most people that I know of didn't see BvS too many times after the first viewing.
But when it all comes down to it, if the final edited version looks like a better film, then I will approve. In the case that is if Snyder's cut was a rough cut, and unfinished, and maybe had some scenes that dragged too long and needed to be cut, then I will accept the official runtime. Hopefully it's good.
I admit a lot of scenes in the ultimate cut of BvS were good, but some of the extended scenes I thought were unnecessary. While I would have preferred a longer movie like Batman v Superman, I would have liked it to feature those two title characters more with more to do than the rest of the characters themselves.
