Justice League JL Runtime Thread. Yay? Or Nay?

I'm hoping for an an ultimate cut, I really wanna see how Lex's scenes turned out and what Deathstroke's role would have been if he was in the movie. If not, deleted scenes on the blu-ray would be fine too.

I just can’t see it, those scenes no longer lead to what they were meant to. I don’t think we’ll get them on the Blu Ray. I could maybe see sort of extended edition but it depends on what was cut.

I feel a lot of that had been cut out because Ben pulled out of the directors spot and Matt is going to start from scratch. So for continuity sake, it was no longer needed/valid.

‘Deservedly so. I mean it took £800 million, so the kicking didn’t matter but it was sort of overstuffed…It was very muddled. I think the next one will be simpler. The script is certainly a lot smaller, it’s more linear.”

When I brought this statement back when the runtime was still just a rumor, people said I was reaching/taking it out of context.:lmao:

Well then they owe you an apology

I certainly hope not :funny:

While X3 is more of Fox being petty about Singer leaving than anything else, I firmly believe WB/DC understand what's at stake here for them at least.

We all can agree that Snyder is actually a competent director and a genius with visuals than Ratner is. The runtime in and of itself doesn't bother me in the slightest. Now if it was say a film with Darkseid or even Brainiac? Then I'd definitely be pretty disappointed.

They could still have them as a special feature. People have been putting deleted scenes on disk for a while.

I'm neutral on here, love both DC and Marvel. There seems to be a lot of denial and defensiveness regarding this film. At this time there's really no need for it.

I just watched the Campea podcast and the questions he's getting asked are ridiculous.

Example:

1snyderman1 writes: hey John, big fan. Do you think that because of the run time and the embargo that Josh Whedon is sabotaging because he a devil!?!?

Slightly hyperbolic on my part but only slightly. I wish the previous film's went down better so fans wouldn't be in such a state. As annoying as some of them are I truly feel for them.

nay, but not by much. without knowing anything about the story, i felt 2 hrs 15 minutes would have been more appropriate. while i'm a bit disappointed, i don't think it'll really effect my enjoyment of the film.

Leaner doesn't mean shorter, per se. Avengers is pretty straightforward. So is WW. But they are around 2:20 each. It's that BvS had a lot packed into it which is what I think Irons is talking about. It was denser. TDK feels quite a bit longer and denser than Batman Begins, but I think the run time differential is about 10 minutes.

Oh I Agree mate I don't think it will I was just thinking that's probably as bad as it gets with a team up movie. I find The Last Stand completely unwatchable.

They could still have them as a special feature. People have been putting deleted scenes on disk for a while.

Maybe

don't have too. we/they will go to watch it anyway. as long as it is good, we/they will watch it multiple times i believe.

I feel much better about the runtime after watching GoTG and 300 the past few days. Both of those movies are the same length and manage to tell their stories coherently.

I still do have reservations about Superman/Clark's ressurection/arc getting proper time to unfold in a satisfying way. I'm ok with skimming over Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman's stories but I feel like of all the plot elements in this movie, Superman's is the most important/most delicate one that needs proper handling and closure and thats going to be sandwhiched in this very tight story.

well, the bar for DC is always higher. we want epic & classic! not just another commercial superhero movie. most likely we are getting one... a fun and action packed superhero movie just like the Marvel's.

Lol I'm all for fun and action packed, man. But if "fun" means we're deprived of a proper emotional reunion scene between Clark, Lois and Martha because the story just doesn't have time for it, then I'm not going to be happy. I'm not saying we need to spend an hour on it but if this is going to close out Clark's hero's journey arc from MoS and BvS then I wanna see some time devoted to it. I don't want Supes to just be some trump card macguffin that buddies up with the team in the last 20 minutes.

I was saying it from the mindset of people who are worried. As I feel it might put there fears to rest or at least dampen then. It’s really worth listening to.

Shamelessly bumping this thread. :woot: It seems like the runtime ended up being an issue after all. As more Hypesters see the movie hopefully you all can chime to see if you agree.

I was a bit disappointed when I heard that the film was right at two hours.
I would have been more than happy if it was 2.5 hours.
At the very end of the day, though, it's about the overall quality.

If they can tell a substantial story without it feeling rushed, then I'm okay with it.
That said, I'm expecting an extended version release for the Blu-ray release.

This movie needed more than 2 hours. I really enjoyed it, but I could feel stuff missing as I was watching it. I also wish the epilogue had more meat to it.

I've seen the movie, and my concerns about run-time are still the same. Still liked the movie quite a bit, but the issues I had were mostly about giving it some more breathing room, that and possibly that it was two directors, so it wasn't always as cohesive as it could have been. But I stand by any earlier statements that I think this movie should be in the 2:20 range.

Wasn't that the same issue with BvS?

No. If anything, you could argue there was too much in BvS, but it was a movie whose length and what what put on screen that allowed me to feel like I could "sink into the story," if that makes sense. It never felt rushed to me.

Hey hey hey, no need for that.

My issue with BvS is that the added scenes of the Ultimate Edition greatly added to the film, yet they still left the "out of place" scenes from the Theatrical Cut... a proper edit would have probably resulted in an economical runtime.
